Put your canoe in a few kilometres upstream and finish at the campsite, or simply enjoy the solitude around the fire. A scenic drive following the Murrumbidgee and Tumut Rivers can be taken as an alternative route to Tumut or Gundagai. The site can be used as a base camp for fishing, wineries, bushwalking, and ski fields. There is free firewood for campfires. Sutton village (5 kms away) has a toilet block and shower amenities available. A beautiful quiet location to stay. Gundaroo has an old world pub with local wines and food. The old police station at Gundaroo has been converted to a gourmet pizza restaurant, there is also an excellent restaurant named Grazing. Water refill and waste disposal is available at Queanbeyan showground. The Mulligans Flat Reserve, about 10 minutes away, is a real first in Australia, given that a very large area has been set aside near Canberra to foster wildlife. "The Orchard" is a beautiful peaceful 5 minute walk down a gravel road with big trees to our Cidery where you can taste and take back to camp some of our cider or sit and have a drink while watching the animals being fed. Maybe book a tour where Tony will show you how we make our cider from the orchard to the bottle and Lorene will show you the amazing animals. You can always jump on your bike and head out on one of the many tracks in the area. You will need to be self sufficient and have your own toilet, water etc. There is no power in The Orchard. Due to people using the orchard as a toilet we are now no longer taking people tenting. You MUST be self sufficient. Head in Batlow to check out the bakery, RSL and Pub and admire the beauty of this small town. Or head upto Tumbarumba where you can visit the Winerys and Ginnery, have lunch at Coroubya wines,The Nest or one of the many cafes. Maybe take the challange of the Tumbarumba rail trail. Check out the water falls, the blowering dam and take in those beautiful mountain views.

Beautiful location on the river. We were spoilt with constant sightings of a platypus at the front of our site. Everything was well maintained and pit toilets were in good order. We will be back!

Weekend Trip to Bahwidgee on Tumut River

An extensive river side campsite with easy 2WD access to the property. A mix of clear campsites suitable for caravans and tree grove campsites great for rooftop or tent camping. There were drop toilets available which were surprisingly clean. Be aware that in summer months the fly population will be significant due to it being a working cattle property but in cooler months no problem and the bonus of being able to have a campfire.

Highly recommend! Stunning setting right on the banks of the Tumut River, which was colder than the Polar Plunge in Antartica! Beautiful, peaceful, idyllic place for a few relaxing days, but close enough to town to enjoy the quaint township of Tumut. Thank you Wayne, we will be back.

We loved our stay at Bahwidgee. So peaceful and relaxing. Was easy access in on a well maintained road. Level grassy sites of your choice right on the Tumut River. River was a bit chilly due to recent snow but was so refreshing. We loved the cows coming past for their afternoon stroll. Thanks Wayne for offering a beautiful property for others to enjoy. Highly recommend. One of our favourite Hipcamps so far.

Great spot right on banks of Tumut River. Clean pit toilet, friendly cows, plenty of space and privacy. River was cold when we were there in December but still beautiful for a dip and crystal clear. A sign of a good hipcamp is if you would return or not and we will certainly be back.

Great little spot to camp. Right on the river and plenty of birdlife about. Was surrounded by cows at one time, a reminder that it is a working farm. Would return

Beautiful spot, views amazing, ditto birdlife. About 8 to 10 riverside spots, which are easy for any vehicle to access and can cope with large groups. Only 5 mins from Tumut coffee etc but can only see hills and river from camp. Camp-site area is regular rectangle bounded by river on one side and fences on the others, so could fit another 8 to 10 along the back. 87 would prob require vertical stacking.

What an awesome camp site. Super convenient being so close to town, beautiful spot with flat sites, perfect for our stop off between Melbourne and Sydney and Wayne makes you feel extremely welcome. We’ll be back next time we pass through!

Bahwidgee is one of the best hip camps we’ve had to pleasure of staying at. Absolutely beautiful waterfront site, so much space to choose from, amazing scenery and you’re 5 mins from the Main Street of Tumut. Not that you would know because it’s so peaceful and quiet. Wayne is an awesome host, great communication and a friendly helpful guy. We have already started looking at when we can return with friends and family.
