1 night at Willowbank

Love coming out here! It’s quiet and secluded, and there’s plenty of space between each of the sites. Stayed for 1 night and it was very chill and relaxing. Perfect for a little getaway. Joanne is a lovely host, always so welcoming.

My son and I booked a very last minute one night getaway and we were not disappointed! The camp sites are sooo spread out and secluded which is exactly what we wanted. We were rght beside the water, easy to get down there, provided a great firepit for us and some wood too. It's beautiful! Son caught a bass within 15minutes of fishing. A spot I'd recommend and can't wait to come back to. Ian and Jo we're really great and accommodating lovely people.

What a stunning piece of paradise. We spent a rainy two days at Willowbank with our kids but still had a blast. Jo and Ian are fabulous hosts and we will be back.

Amazing site and hosts. So close to everything yet miles away from the world. Relax by the river, better yet jump in the refreshing flow. If you really need it we had strong mobile reception. Be patient and quiet in the early morning, you might catch a glimpse of a Platypus. Can not talk highly enough of the hosts. Extremely welcoming, helpful and friendly. You can go wrong with a few days spend switching off here, better yet so close to supplies down the road make it a week.

We camped overnight in our campervan and it was delightful. There were no other campers, and it was so peaceful next to the Rapids. The river front camping is a treat, and Joanne and Ian are terrific hosts to deal with. You can buy firewood for $18 but recommend you akso bring your own if you want a substantial campfire. Thanks Jianne for everything, including a smooth chain if communication and checking. We will be back! Sue and Geoff

I had the most tranquil night in my small off road caravan. Just pulled up in the house paddock, had a ride on my bike, brought honey from the neighbours and enjoyed the sunset. Saw Black Cockatoos flying overhead. Thanks Meredith for sharing your serenity!

We absolutely loved our stay on Joanne & Ian’s property. Thank you both so much for your hospitality. Really helpful getting our van into position. Stunning farm on the river with no one in sight. We purchased wood extra which was a fantastic option, fire pit was also really handy which meant we didn’t need to use ours. Thanks again, we will be back for longer next time.

Ian and Jo's property was absolutely lovely. The weather was perfect which only made the trip even better. This was our first time using Hipcamp and I probably had more questions than usual but Jo answered them all and promptly at that. Ian brought down a fit pit he had made and we used it for cooking on the fire. I would recommend this site and the lovely hosts.

Weekend Trip to Willowbank

Loved our night at Willowbank, will definitely be coming back. Our campsite was the Rapids and we were maybe 100m from the next closest camper, so plenty of privacy. The water was beautiful to listen to and watch. There was shade from the morning sun. Land was pretty flat so didn’t need to lift any wheels. We paid for firewood and it was waiting for us on our site, with kindling and enough to last the night, good dry wood too. Not too far from Newwy.

What a great spot along the Karuah river. Easy access to the river. Great spot to swim, and or let your dogs swim. Horses and cattle came to say hello(behind the fence so not at campsite. Night sky is fantastic. And Jo and Ian are superb hosts! Very friendly and accommodating. We would've loved to stay longer. So we'll have to come back one day.

Weekend Trip to Willowbank

We had a great stay at Willowbank and stayed on the ‘She oaks’ site. Beautiful big tree for shade, flat grounds for easy, setup (didn't need levellers)and quick stroll down to the river. Joanne and Ian were super accommodating and checked in with us regularly. We added firewood as part of our stay and when the rain cleared up on the second day we could sit around the fire and look up at a million stars! Kids had fun feeding the horses and exploring the farm along the river. Short drive from Sydney, will be back!

Wallis Lake is literally across the road from the front gate and can be accessed by boat launch just up the Coomba road or at the Pacific Palms recreational club ( Recky) which is a short 5 minutes down the road. Smiths Lake is only 5 minutes drive away in the other direction and has catamaran and boat hire services close to the Frothy Coffee Cafe, SeaForest Sanctuary sites are 4WD and AWD due to the tracks- some 2WD as long as they have a high ground clearance & depending if we have dry weather. ( I have a small 2WD SUV and it gets around perfectly in the dry weather but I need the 4WD in the wet ). No amenities so campers need to BYO everything they need and leave no trace. Campers MUST bring their own camping toilet... This property is a wildlife/bush sanctuary and thus everyone is asked to please do their part to keeping it that way. The waterways and forests in this area are mind blowing. If you have the opportunity, hire a boat/ houseboat or kayak etc and explore the Myall, Smiths and Wallis Lakes.. Bushwalking trails are everywhere through the many National Parks that surround us here. The property is Dog friendly and owners must be respectful of others and keep animals quiet and contained at night. Goes without saying - please clean up doggie dung and take with your rubbish. Campfires are permitted in a designated area when restrictions aren't in place, plenty of wood to gather your own. Please be mindful that there could be fire bans on certain days during the summer. Farm manager will keep you informed and if the worst scenario happens being a fire warning of catastrophic conditions, please follow the farm managers instructions to evacuate the premises and enjoy some shopping in Forster or go to the movies for the day until the warning has lifted.

The River Retreat sits beside a wide river, with dams and other scattered paddock sites among trees and dams. It best suits off-road independent hybrid caravaners and tent dwellers. The river is lined with mangroves and branches off the Karuah River (mosquitoes during wet periods feed the leaping fish). Birdlife includes: Wedge-tailed and sea eagles, hawks, Tawny Frogmouths, water waders, occasional Jabiroos, pelicans and swans. Be woken by Magpies and Kookaburras, colourful parrots and smaller shyer birds. You'll see kangaroos, wallabies, and maybe Echidnas. You may espy a Koala along the foreshore. For this reason, while we accept dogs, they must be on a leash (if not just for their own safety). The boat ramp allows access for kayaks/canoes. Or just sit on a camper chair and dangle your feet in the water while watching the mud crabs go about their social business. Riverside sites are not powered and do not have water or sewerage. They are situated within 10m to 25m of each other and if this is too close, we recommend booking two sites. Generally, we prefer campers to be 100% self-contained, with their own toilet. A toilet is however accessible, but some 300m to 400m distance from the dams and rivers. There is cold potable running water here for topping up. Sealed roads to the front gate to access the property from north and south. All-weather gravel road access is available, although paddock sites can only be accessed by vehicle during dry periods. Weather willing, we can provide more secluded sites by some lovely dams, (please check conditions if you have concerns). Local groceries can be sourced from Karuah and Stroud. Activities include: - Bird/nature watching - Paddling/canoeing - Fishing - Bike riding (small motor vessels only by arrangement) - Surface type: grass or paddock leveled areas and others with slight slopes and accessed with 4WD (of course subject to weather). - Generally fair to good Mobile phone access. - BYO or Preorder firewood for applicable sites out of fire season. - No electrical connections unless by arrangement (for longer term Hipcampers) - We treat our own sewerage. - No generators please.

Premium and exclusive natural camping at its best. Our farm is located on the beautiful Karuah River in the picturesque Monkerai valley. The river is a fresh mountain river running from the foothills of Barrington Tops. We only offer 5 sites across our 300 acre property giving you absolute privacy and a sense of serenity We were very pleased to have been recognised by Hipcamp as being one of the top 20 Hipcamp locations in NSW for 2022. Most of the year the river is lovely and clear and ideal for swimming canoeing floating on airbeds fishing photography or just enjoying. There is also some really nice bike riding and walking opportunities around the valley although you will be on gravel roads and we are only 25 min drive from the popular Dungog mountain bike park. You are likely to see a variety of birdlife other wildlife including black and white cockatoos ducks some lizards, occasionally wallabies, echidnas and if you are lucky a Platypus or two. We are fortunate to see platypus in the river frequently which is a sign of just how pristine the water running down from the mountains really is. You will have your campsite completely to yourself with no other camper near you. Privacy, tranquillity, relaxation and just enjoying nature is waiting for you. Be sure to bring your telescope as you’ll be amazed at the stargazing at night with no light pollution. With some lovely Spring rain the river is running beautifully and is great for a swim, fish or canoe. Swimming, canoeing and running the rapids on surf mats is always popular at our property and as long as the river is it normal levels and a lot of fun. However, we always highly recommend people wear some form of footwear in the river such as rafting sandals or old joggers or similar as the rocks are very hard on your feet and there’s a particular nasty little fish called a “Bullrout” that whilst rare can infect a nasty sting if you tread on one. No need to be overly concerned but be mindful. Our property is ideal for self-contained vans, camper trailers, medium motor homes, tents or swags, it’s up to you. There are no toilets so only suitable if you have your own toilet facilities and take away all waste when you leave. All toilet waste, leaving our property is very important and an absolutely essential requirement for all visitors. Public waste dump points are at Stroud, Dungog and Gloucester. Gloucester Dungog and historic Stroud village are nearby as well as Barrington Tops World Heritage wilderness area and national park. This is an operating farm and therefore farming activities such as cattle droving, fencing, grass cutting or hay making may occasionally be occurring somewhere near your site but we would always let you know. We are sure you will enjoy our farm far more than a crowded traditional caravan park or campgrounds. We do have some limited bags of firewood for sale at $20 a bag most of the year. These are heavy bags of very dry local Hardwood. You can also collect firewood along the riverbanks yourself or bring your own firewood for a campfire (subject to any fire restrictions) if that is easier and more convenient for you. When you make a reservation at the property we will always endeavour to put you in your preferred location as best we can. However if we are impacted by adverse weather or need to run cattle on certain parts of the farm then we may need to make a change to the actual site you are in and trust you understand. Beautiful River all to yourself!

Our campsite is private, quiet, and beautiful, alongside a crystal clear stony-bottom river, just as it emerges from the mountains. With only one allocated camping zone the river is exclusively yours to enjoy. Camping, fishing, relaxing, and catching up with friends, you have 5 acres of river frontage all to yourself. Located 4 hrs from Sydney this is an ideal place for a weekend getaway, the perfect place canoeing and fishing. Put your canoes in up river at the Kimbriki Rd bridge, and then spend the few hours enjoying the river as the current brings you downstream, right back to your campsite! Or just cruise around on a stand-up paddle board directly from out front of your campsite. Although our campsite is never boggy (even after heavy rain), you will need a 4WD to access the spot and make your way back out again. There is plenty to do in our area. Explore Beautiful Comboyne, the Rainforest at Wingham Brush, the Ellenborough Falls (a jaw-dropping 150 meter falls, with viewing decks & long and steps to a pool at its base), or Potoroo Falls (set is a beautiful rainforest valley), or just head to the beach at Old Bar and catch a wave. Only a few minutes from the local Coles and Cafes at Wingham, you're not to far away from supplies and good coffee. Your camping/van area has a bin, and a camp toilet is provided. Dogs are unfortunately not allowed, out of respect for the working farms to the north and south. A campfire is allowed during permitted times. There is loads of dried kindling and small logs around the property otherwise byo. Beautiful spot to relax, with wildlife and bird watching. Please use bins supplied and leave no trace. Access is by a farm track that can be slippery, and so although you do not require high wheel clearance, you will need 4WD. Other things to note: - Fishing is according to DPI regulations, and you assume all responsibility to do the right thing. - Check-in is 2 pm Check out is 12 pm. - A place for enjoyable quiet catch-ups but NO LOUD PARTYING PLEASE. If you would like canoes or standup paddle boards, they can be rented for $40 per day, and this includes a life vest. A bond of $100 is required to cover us if you lose a paddle or similar. If you hire canoes and would like us to drop you and the canoes off at Kimbriki Bridge, this can be arranged in advance and is complimentary.

Karuah River is close by for swimming and fishing, and the Barrington Tops National Park is approximately 50 minutes away. Ride Dungog is located at The Common in Dungog, for mountain bike enthusiasts. The area includes 650 acres offering trails for all different levels. While visiting Dungog, there are boutique cafes and shops, a historic cinema, and a lot more to see as you wander through the streets. River Front Campsites is a picturesque camping area on the eastern edge of the Barrington Tops National Park (Gloucester Tops) and nestled on the banks of the crystal clear Gloucester River. A great spot for families and groups of all ages who love wide open natural spaces. A place to relax and enjoy the amazing mountain scenery, fabulous sunsets and bird life local to the area, along with other wildlife that graze the land. If you want to indulge in the natural wonders of the area, there are numerous walking trails in the nearby Gloucester Tops National Park, swim in the crystal clear water of the Gloucester River. Do some Bird watching. Other things to do around the area, Gloucester Farmers Market (monthly), Local Wineries, Cafes, Art Gallery and Museum. We are an active beef cattle farm. We run approximately 80 head of cattle. You will see our herd of cattle across the paddocks, which includes pregnant cows, younger cows, calves, and Brutus our bull. We will endeavor to run our cattle outside of the paddocks containing the campsites. For this reason, we ONLY allow dogs to stay if they remain on a lead or are well controlled. There are 6 sites to choose from beside the flowing river to set up your campsite, with shady areas, spacious grassy areas for the kids to run around or just relax and enjoy the surroundings. All of our campsites are perfect for having a campfire (fire season dependent). NO rubbish can be burnt in any campfires at all. Each Site will have a fire pit. BYO wood. These are sites only and NO toilet or shower facilities are provided, or freshwater. You will need to bring your own camping toilet or self contained caravan/ camper. (There are dump points located in Gloucester and Stroud townships, both approximately 40 min away). Access to River Front Campsites is partially by 12kms of gravel council managed road with 6 water crossings. Campsites are easily accessible by 4WD and 2WD vehicles.
