Weekend Trip to Cranky Rock Hunter Valley

Would absolutely recommend for solo travelers and families. There are cows on the property that come and say hello. The views are incredible, especially if you wake up early to see the sunrise above the trees. The property is enough off the main road that you don’t see anyone or hear cars but still close to town that you can pop in for a coffee or explore. The camp site is very big so that you and other campers aren’t right next to each other. Will definitely be back! Can’t recommend enough!

2 nights at Mandalong Manor

Easy to get to, and great for first time or more seasoned campers. Gremlin Grove is closest to Jim’s house and the pool, and approximately 50 metres from the next campsite. It’s quite pretty and there’s plenty of space - we had 2 tents and could have easily accommodated another 4. If you want total privacy then you’ll need to book Goblin Glen, Gremlin Grove and the other campsites are less private but well spaced out. If you want to go exploring or for a bush walk you’ll need to jump in the car to do this.

A beautiful, peaceful and almost undisturbed property. It was very relaxing and private, plus lots of bush to explore. Even quiet for a Easter long weekend. We had a 14.5ft offroad caravan which would be the max size I would attempt to access the site. Parts can be soft and sandy so have all the 4WD gear. Love to stay again.

1 night at Wollombi Springs

I spent one night with my partner at Sunset Flats. and honestly couldn’t have asked for a better host. Robert was incredibly accommodating and just a genuinely nice person. He went above and beyond to help us out when things didn’t go to plan. First off, we lost reception on the way in (just a heads up for anyone with Vodafone – signal’s patchy in the area), so we couldn’t contact Robert or meet him at the designated meeting point. We ended up driving straight to the campsite instead. Not long after, Robert came down personally to check in and make sure we were settled, which we really appreciated. The next morning, our car wouldn’t start and we were pretty stressed—home was about two hours away and we were stuck. Without hesitation, Robert brought down jumper leads, helped us get the car going, and stayed with us the whole time to make sure everything was okay. It was honestly such a relief having someone that kind and helpful around. The campsite itself was beautiful, peaceful, and had everything we needed. We woke up early morning and saw a few wombats on a morning walk. Also - I’ve honestly never seen a campsite toilet that spotless before. But what really stood out was the hospitality and care Robert showed us. Would absolutely recommend staying here—not just for the spot, but for the kind of host who truly looks out for his guests.

A great 2-night stay at Sunset Flats. Robert is super friendly, informative, and generous with his time. Communication was great. The place itself has plenty of space and corners to hide away in, and it is very well kept. I know he's going to be making further developments to the shape and structure of the property, and they all sound great. My one piece of feedback is the lack of substantial pieces of firewood. The place is swimming in wood to burn, but you need some logs for a good fire to take you into the night. I'm pretty resourceful and have the tools and energy to process what I found, so it wasn't a problem, but if it's claimed to be there, it probably should be. People love a good fire and plan, pack, and purchase around having logs to burn, and I probably would have picked up a bag or 2 if I'd known. Thanks again, Robert - I'll be back. Recommended.

Weekend Trip to Wollombi Private Earthways camp

We had a lovely camping weekend at Brian and Sally's Wollombi Private Earthways camp. Our site was called "Private Tree Valley" which was very private and quiet, and space was huge even our dog enjoyed her fist no fence, off-leash run! We did not see other souls at our site even though it was Easter long weekend. They kept the camp site nice and tidy, and providing a simple but clean bush toilet and water tank for washing up. We found ample shade and firewood, plus a pile already prepared for us on arrival. Brian and Sally were very responsive which made our communication very easy and seamless experience. We highly recommend this hidden oasis.

4 nights at Mandalong Manor

Great spot, Jim was welcoming and checked in with us whether we needed more water, cans removed. Great location just minutes to great 4x4 tracks, if that's your thing. Patchy service, so if you're looking for peace and quiet, this is perfect. Campers were nearby but certainly not close, which was great. Being dog friendly was excellent!

Sally and Brian are great hosts and their property was perfect for a large group of friends. We stayed over Easter long weekend and were completely undisturbed. The camp shower and toilet were great additions. Sally was very friendly and welcoming when we arrived and communicated well. Will hopefully be back again.

Weekend Trip to Hunter Valley Hill Top Lovedale

I loved camping at Hunter Valley Hill Top. The views are great and it is very peaceful. There is absolutely no road noise around, it is far from any roads. You can see horses, cows and kangaroos roaming in the neighbouring paddocks. There was one noisy group camped next to us, the rest of the campers were courteous. The toilets were fine, just a bit crowded due to the Easter long weekend. I would come back again.

Beautiful spot to camp. Very friendly and helpful host Robert. There was plenty of firewood and the composting toilet very clean during our time there. The stars were amazing and despite it being Easter and all sites booked, it was very private and far from the next campsite. Not far from Wollombi Village which is great to explore. The road up is pretty bumpy and a bit hairy in parts so be prepared for that but Robert meets you at the bottom and escorts you up. Highly recommend this place!

It is private and secluded, and with just one group staying at a time, you are guaranteed the space to yourselves. There are many beautiful walking and bike trails in the area. You are also welcome to bring a couple of horses! There's a safe paddock with a trough and nice trails in the area to explore. The Kulnura General Store and bottleshop is just 9km down the road for basic supplies.

La Cascina is a small property on a hill surrounded by trees and bushland. There are two main camping areas which would suite tent and small to medium van/car camping. There is access to neighbouring bushland with nice short walks available in the area. Only 20 minutes by car to Newcastle CBD, 10 minutes by car to Redhead Beach and 5 minutes by car to Lake Macquarie. La Cascina is a great spot to stop overnight on a road trip or to get away for the weekend to relax. We have no toilets so please bring your own. The access to the property is a steep sealed driveway. Site 1 is an open site with plenty of shade. The area is flat. More suited to larger camping setups. This site is less private. There is vision of the neighbouring property and an overflow campsite 50 meters away. Site 2 is a more uneven surface area which is better for smaller vans and tents. Redhead Beach is the closest dog beach 10 minutes by car. Croudace Bay is a dog park on the lake which is 5 minutes by car. This is a family owned acreage that brings the best parts of environmental living with the benefits of being close to the coast and a city. A very long time ago it was the site of a quarry. The nature has returned and we are left with a beautiful forested acreage.

Nestled under the Watagan mountains escarpment in the Hunter valley, the property has some amazing views in all directions, but still remains secluded and hidden from view. The property has been selectively cleared to maintain a balance of open land and untouched bushland which has a boundary to the Watagans National Park. The animal life is very diverse as many species transition from the Watagans into the property and many live on site full time. These include flocks of amazing bird species such as Gang gang and Black Cockatoos, resident Wedge tailed eagles, Kookaburras, finches, honey eaters, Coucals, Lyrebirds and more. Wallabies of various types are common, and Sugar gliders can be seen on the flowering Eucalypts. The camping areas for RV's sit on a large elevated flat area that border a large gorge with broken views towards the Hunter Valley vineyards. The Gorge (or Canyon) is rimmed by caves and has rainforest type trees in the bottom. The caves can be explored and the rainforest can be walked if you are fit! The tent and camper trailer areas are terraced into an area of slight slope with a number of sites to chose from. Non potable water taps are available at each caravan site and at intervals in the camping area. This water is clear fresh dam or bore water and can be used for showers, washing up etc. Two flush toilets are available for use by both RV's and campers. There is a central fire pit. We have a private site which has open views over the Hunter Valley to the Vineyards and beyond to the Barrington tops. This site has a cliff edge pool that comfortably fits up to 4 people for a dip. This area has a large fire pit that can be used to heat the pool in winter. This site has its own flushing toilet and Shower. This site is best suited to a caravan as it is terraced, though it would be possible to setup tents or a camper van in this location also. This can also be booked as a group site. 16minutes to Cessnock, 25minutes to the M1, 2.25 hours to Sydney central and 25 minutes to Pokolbin. The location is generally very peaceful with all sorts of wildlife. There is plenty of ground sticks for fire wood and bulk timber for purchase. There are 2 dams that can be fished on request (catch and release cod and bass)

They can feed the goats, sheep, ducks, pigs, chooks, turkeys, and guinea pigs! They can meet Brownie the horse, help care for the baby chicks, and hunt for chook eggs! They can feed the baby ducks and turkeys and socialize with the geese! We have various equipment you can hire, including golf clubs, bbq, chairs and tables, and push bikes. For the family we can organize coits (a traditional Aussie hoop game) and a True Blue Aussie damper or doughboys for you to cook in the fire (all you need to bring is some flour). We are 1.2 km from the township along the River Road. There are powered and unpowered sites for caravans and campers set in a rustic location. CHILDREN are to be accompanied by an adult at all times if walking around the property. Beautiful spot to relax, with loads of wildlife and bird watching. Please use bins supplied and leave no trace. * There are 4 allocated camp sites. Two are easy(2WD & Vans/trailers) access and have the direct view through the valley. Two require high wheel clearance vehicles (just small hill to drive up with some rocks), these are more private sites(cannot see the other campers) still with lovely views. Next door is Oakvale Wildlife Park and close by is Irukandji Shark and Ray Encounters and Go carts Go. A boat ramp to the Tilligerry river is 2.5 kms away which is a great area to fish and kayak . Noonameena is a beautiful retreat that feels secluded from the world, yet is just a stones throw from shops, beach, good food and parklands. We offer a number of grassy, level sites, some with shade, others with sun, all with bushland to the rear. There is also a pond/dam area, and lots of wildlife. We have a fire pit for communal use. The kangaroos will come and visit you early in the morning, and in the evening. You will also see lots of different parrots and birds. We even have goannas and echidnas about and the black cockatoos will come in for a visit. You will need to bring your own camp toilet, as we don't have facilities here. Pets are welcome but please keep them on a lead at all times as we have lots of wildlife around! Please note, when we have heavy rain, the ground can get boggy. We are very mindful to keep tabs on the weather for our guests, and will be in good communication with you in the lead up to your stay should we suspect there to be any issues. Whilst camping by the beautiful dam is lovely in fine weather, when it's raining, it’s best to camp towards the front of the property on higher ground. An easy 20 minute drive from the M1 (Pacific Motorway) Morisset exit, Wombat Flats Campsite is an exclusive, quiet and private camping area at the back of our 100 acres. We only book one group at a time, so you will have the entire site and facilities all to yourselves! There is no traffic noise: all you will hear is the sound of the bush! The campsite borders Watagan National Park and guests can access the park directly through our back gate for bushwalking activities. Our farm itself includes walking trails, a dam and plenty of native wildlife, including birds, wombats, wallabies, echidnas and reptiles. We are devoted to horses and care for a diverse herd that includes some rescue brumbies and other beautiful equines you may meet on your walks. The closest cafe (Bistro Eden, a popular spot for coffee and food) is 15 minutes drive, and the closest Coles/Woolworths is 20 minutes drive away at Morisset. The Hunter Valley is an easy 1 hour drive away, with many wineries and restaurants to choose from. Fishing activities in Dora Creek or Lake Macquarie (15 - 20 minutes drive) are a popular pastime, as are beaches activities (45 minutes drive away).

Wollombi Rolling Ridges

Ridgetop views evoke stillness and quiet to enjoy the abundant nature, from lyre birds, black cockatoos, wallabies, wombats, goannas as well as many different bird species depending on the season. Whilst the property is 100 acres, we also border Yengo State Forrest so if you're experienced hikers you can tramp until your hearts content without needing permission to cross private properties. The bushfire regrowth is dense and difficult to travers. so I have cut in a loop walk to a rock ledge lookout (see pics) plus 4km return walk to dry creek bed; with caves, pancake rock platforms, and beautiful old trees. Ideal for those who wish to immerse themselves in pristine nature while being only 1.5 hrs from Newcastle or Wahroonga (start of M1) There are 2 camping pads so if you are a group you can spread out but I want it to be private for each group I host, so if you are only 2 people there won't be any other campers We live simply in a Yurt on solar and rain water, apart from us, you will be the only campers so you are able to enjoy the quiet all to yourselves. (See pic 4 to see distance yurt is from camping pad). Have a 7 mth old Border Collie Cross and training her to be well socialised around other dogs. If you are looking for a party, this is not the place for you. It's the place for stargazers and nature lovers. In the evenings, you won't hear us nor my neighbours so it's only fair that my neighbours don't hear you. No loud music allowed, being a ridge the noise travels and it scares away the wildlife. We're 15mins on dirt tracks from Wollombi village. 2WD vehicle needs high clearance and dry tracks, so check with me first. 4WD and AWD preferable. Dogs love roaming around off leash, if yours is good with recall, as there's no fencing. Children under 5yrs no charge. You may use our composting loo or bring your own camping loo. (see pic 5 and 6) Please be aware only firepit/cooking fire is allowed from 1st October to 31st March. Firepit provided (see pic 7 ) Open bonfires allowed from 1st April to 30th Sept, as per state rules. Regardless of season all fires are Bushfire Rating Dependant. Cut firewood to fit firepit can be purchased, please let me know in advance. Alternatively you can roam around and collect what has fallen on the ground.

C Colo - just beautiful

Our property contains the first road in and out of Colo - the original road is supported by hand built dry rock walls some of which are over 3 m high. Often referred to as convict built, but more likely built by freemen who were former convicts. The property housed the load master's residence who controlled the cargo boats that docked to collect the valley’s produce. This was then transported back down the Colo River which flows into the Hawkesbury river and leads to Broken Bay following the coastline down to Old Sydney Town. The beach diagonally across the river was landed upon by members of the First Fleet’s exploratory scouting party on the lookout for quality farm land - some of which is still in production today. Our property is on the uppermost reach of freshwater but with tidal influence. This deep water allows swimming and canoeing all year round. Our property is adjacent to the only council built canoe launching facilities on the Colo River.
