Head any direction out of Spokane and you're bound to wind up at a world class camping destination. Tucked between expansive mountain ranges and foothills, there's no shortage of long hikes and impressive mountain overlooks to fill your days, and the nearby Spokane river is popular among rafters and boaters looking for some thrills. Riverside State Park, just minutes from downtown Spokane, is a no-fail option for peaceful, outdoor vibes. Set up camp in the evergreens, or head right to the banks of the Spokane River with an inner tube in hand. Northeast of the city, Mount Spokane State Park is the place to go for secluded camping and endless trails through the rolling hills. The inland climate makes for hot summers and cold winters, but there's no wrong time of year to go camping near Spokane. The natural abundance and diverse scenery of the region make it a popular destination for hikers, horseback riders, boaters and wildlife aficionados; no matter your camping style, Spokane is bound to satisfy.

The fire pit inside the tipi was very useful for keeping warm and dry as well as cooking. The white fluffy stuff around the fire pit is snow that fell from the air vent at the top (which also lets smoke out)
Painted Sacred Tipi
Here's the tipi near sunset.
The inside of the tipi is painted with four shields, each corresponding to one of the four directions as well as the four seasons. They also represent parts of our human nature. Each is necessary and important to wholeness and well-being.
The tipi sits in a large garden with many trees.

TIER 2 BASE CAMP: Perfects spot for up to three tents and you can stay cool in the shade of beautiful tree cover. Picnic table made from our own trees will be finished soon.
TIER 2 BASE CAMP: Camp host Lena says, "We are just giving you perspective, we have our own 10 acres to play on while we are sharing this with you." This is view is the trail that leads down to the creek and more short trails without leaving your spot.
TIER 2 BASE CAMP ENTRANCE: Plenty of room for a small RV, Van, Pop-Up, or Trailer and note that it's so wooded you can't even see my tent. Moderately easy in and out.
PRIVATE ENTRANCE TO TIERS 1 and 2: From my a private road. Steep but no worries with getting in and out until the snow comes.
Camp Host Lena again, showing you the way down one trail.

Nathan: We spent about a week at Charles place. It was very beautiful and peaceful.
Humans first appeared in the region between 8,000 and 13,000 years ago, and these Spokane People lived off the area's abundant game.
