View gorge-ous scenery at the Grand Canyon of the South. The Russell Fork River carved a canyon 5 miles long and up to 1,600 feet deep. This park covers 4,500 acres of pure outdoor enjoyment. It's easy to see why Daniel Boone was impressed with this gorge when he saw it in 1767.
Hike on 25 miles of trails that take you through one of the deepest canyons east of the Mississippi River. The River Trail is 1 mile long and extremely steep in some areas. The trail levels out once you reach the river. Head upwards on trails that overlook the gorge.
Hire a guide to take you on a whitewater rafting tour of the river. On summer days, the cool water refreshes you as it splashes into your raft. Your campsite offers a place to relax after this exhilarating thrill ride.
The Breaks offers world-class rock climbing. Again, you can hire a guide to help you. There are five climbing locations in the park.
A large campground contains 122 campsites. Upgrade to a glamping vacation with a cabin.
The best time to visit Breaks Interstate Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural scenery is at its most vibrant. Summer offers a full range of activities but expect higher temperatures and more visitors. Winters can be harsh, with some facilities closed or limited.
