Utica is located at New York's geographic center and at the southwestern base of the Adirondack Mountains, an ideal destination for hikers and backpackers. Although you'll find no camping within the city of Utica, there are some great spots just a short drive away. The Cedar Valley Campsite is a popular camping destination just 45 minutes outside of Utica, open May through October with electric sites available in the winter. Cedar Valley is a modern, fully developed campground in the cedar-lined Oneida Creek Valley. Choose from tent sites, RV sites, and cabins. Another great spot for camping near Utica is the Old Forge Camping Resort. Open year round, the Old Forge Camping Resort is an hour outside of Utica. The scenic campgrounds and beautiful private lake are hard to beat. Choose from log cabins, cottages, RV sites and tent sites available for reservation. If you’re looking for a more primitive camping weekend, check out Alger Island. This boat access-only campground is located on Fourth Lake; from summer swimming to autumn leaf-peeping, the natural surroundings will impress even the most seasoned campers. Choose from 15 sites, including both tent and lean-to sites with fireplaces, hibachis, picnic tables and pit toilets.
