Ridgway State Park
They don't call it Colorful Colorado for no reason.
Just 15 miles from Ouray, this park looks like it's straight out of a movie. The pristine lake has mountains on all sides. The swim beach is perfect for hot summer days. Bring a boat or a reel or both. The Pa-co-chu-puk area is known for its vibrant fishing.
Hiking trails around the lake offer fantastic mountain views. The park's main loop trail takes you through every corner of Ridgway. You see the Cimarron Range of the San Juan Mountains in the background.
During your trek, you might see deer, rabbits, and elk. Listen for coyotes howling in the distance at night. Autumn will have you jumping on top of your car like Ansel Adams for that perfect shot of fall foliage.
