Aptly named for the “good view” you get of the Collegiate and Sawatch Mountain Ranges when you’re camping in Buena Vista, this vibrant town tucked in the middle of South Central Colorado is bursting with recreational adventures. You’re in 14er country here—the Collegiate Range boasts the highest number of peaks above 14,000 feet in the state. Hike Mt. Yale’s trail to 13,900 feet where you’ll find the entrance to the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Area, or soak your exertion-weary muscles at one of the plentiful creekside cabins and tent camping sites nearby offering natural hot springs pools. Visit the super-popular Buena Vista Whitewater Park that runs right along the Arkansas River in downtown Buena Vista. Along with hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails, you’ll find canoers, kayakers, rafters and paddle-boarders braving the waves on the five thrilling main whitewater structures. Rent a jeep or an ATV and explore the bountiful ghost towns, abandoned mines, or the nearby San Isabel National Forest. With over 800 miles of year-round trails and plenty of developed campgrounds, this diverse forest covers over one million acres and contains portions of six different Wilderness Areas with elevations ranging from 6,000 to over 14,000 feet.

The hut is built into the side of the mountain meaning it's easier to stay warm on a cold winter night.
