We loved ardounie farm & our hosts!
My partner and I spent the most amazing two days at DJ and Loretta's farm. They are wonderful hosts! While we always come prepared with our own gear, cookware, food and water, there were a couple of items we forgot and the hosts kindly provided us with those items.
The farm itself is beautiful, and we loved learning about the ins and outs of a modern dairy farm operation and meeting the animals.
The hosts provide lots of free firewood which gives this place an advantage over any state park or private campground.
When searching for potential camping spots, we have a few things that are most important to us and Ardounie farm exceeded every one of them.
Specifically, we look for:
- lots of outdoor space for our furry buddy to run and play off leash. Our pup had the best time running around the farm, finding bones in the field and meeting farm animals. I'm pretty sure he is still depressed about coming back to the city.
- proximity to hiking. There is a beautiful lake just 10 mins away from the farm with lots of flat trails and water activities. We ended up driving 30 mins to the Pinnacle loop - a really picturesque 8 mile loop to the top of a mountain via the Appalachian Trail. Really awesome hike that left all of us (including the puppy) tired and happy. It's best to walk the trail counterclockwise passing the pulpit rock on the way up.
- bathroom access. We are city folk after all and prefer an actual toilet when possible. Our hosts hadn't set up port-a-potties for the season just yet but let us use a bathroom and sink in the camper next to the campsite which was even better.
We loved everything about our stay and will definitely be back! Thank you DJ and Loretta for your hospitality.

in Sanctuary in the woods tent camp, New YorkIncredible experience
We spent three wonderful nights at Pam and Bob's unique campsite. The walkup to the campsite from the house was quick yet it transported us to a completely private sanctuary in the woods. That's exactly what we love about hipcamp and this particular listing: you get a whole forest all to yourself with trails, pond and wildlife (lots of deer!) all just a short drive away from some of the most beautiful state parks and gorges this coast has to offer.
Our dog absolutely loved it too! We were able to hike with him in Buttermilk and Robert Treman's state parks and even swim under a waterfall. For those traveling with dogs, make sure to check out Ithaca off leash dog park and get a pup cup at Purity Ice Cream.
What a fantastic mini vacation. Thank you Pam and Bob for sharing your beautiful land with us.

Dome Asylum Sweet Orchard Spot
in Dome Asylum, Hippie Homestead, CaliforniaDawn's property was perfect for us to pitch a tent after a long day in San Diego. Lots of animals around, and they are all friendly and wonderful. It was also great to have access to a full bathroom with a hot shower.
Lower Oak Campsite
in Happy Campers at The Funny Farm, PennsylvaniaOur stay at Kerry and John's farm was fantastic. The camp site is tucked in the woods part of the property and there are some awesome trails to walk on and take your four legged buddy. Having a full bathroom with hot water 100ft away is huge! Definitely recommend staying at the Funny Farm over any state park. It's quiet, beautiful and relaxing. Thank you for an amazing weekend!
