Past trip
in Grapevine Springs Retreat , TexasAntidote to the work-a-day world
This was our first camping experience with HIPCAMP, and it proved to be the perfect antidote to the slings and arrows that seem to confront us in the work-a-day world! Wilson's ranch was a peaceful and secluded spotââa quiet "island" where the sounds of birds (a dozen different birds greeted us each morning!) and frogs contributed to the serenity and provided a rich soundscape. Wilson was a marvelous host! He accompanied us to the campsite along a spring-fed creek (4.5 miles from the roadââshaded, quiet, and secluded). Beyond that, our conversations with him gave us insight into land management, the site's history, and the deep connection that binds people with land. During the days, we explored the ranchââtrekking 6 or 7 miles / day through dry stream beds and following the occasional ranch road. We discovered, across two and a half days, much of the character of the landscape. The nearby spring was a very good water source. We thank our wonderful hosts!
