Squirrel Acres
in Oaks Ranch, CaliforniaSquirrel Acres is located in the city of Dobbins, CA on the property of the Lucero family vineyard. The lot itself is an open field surrounded by trees, leading up to the main house about a quarter of a mile away.
Plenty of room to pitch a tent (or 10) with room to spare. At night, the sky is clear for star-gazing. You are pitching up on private property of course, so on a weekend, you may here residents nearby playing music or otherwise enjoying themselves. But that speaks more to how open and quiet the area is otherwise, with sound traveling quite easily.
Dan & Marian Lucero are the kindest most gracious hosts campers could ask for. They greeted us upon our (late) arrival at around 9PM, driving 2 golf cart ('putt-putts') down from the main house. They informed us of the nice outdoor bathroom available up the road, the various spots to fill up on water on the campground, and also offered up one of the putt-putts for us to drive at our convenience.
The property is a vineyard, so they also let us know we could visit the grapes if we wanted and would be happy to do a wine-tasting if we had time the next day. What an awesome perk.
We also visited Lake Francis (5 minute drive) nearby. Really nice lake. The city itself has a lot of history, which was fun to explore before our drive back.
For folks looking to escape the city noise, look at the stars, and maybe have some wine during their visit, Squirrel Acres is highly recommended.
Thanks Dan & Marian for being such kind hosts!!
