Over the Falls

One of my new favorite HipCamp spots! The property is gorgeous.. with woodland trails and a creek and all sorts of outdoor area to keep yourself busy. Once I arrived, I was setting up my tent, and 2 beautiful white dogs came down the hill to hangout with me.. made my day! The owner came to say hello and introduce herself afterwords. I already can’t wait to come back and explore the area more!

Linda was a very pleasant host. Her description of the site was accurate. We had fun exploring the woods around our site. All of the neighbors we encountered were also very nice.

Great place! Lots of ticks though around the area. Make sure you check yourself!

I was really disappointed by this site, especially after reading the excellent reviews and seeing photos. There were major problems with this site:
1. There was no water in the stream, let alone a waterfall. The host explained that this was because someone up the road had tapped the water, but I feel like that was a pretty big selling point of "Over the Falls" campsite and should have been clear in the description. The trails that were promised all ended in blackberry bushes.
2. This is not a dog-friendly site. When we arrived to go to campsite 3, we went into a gated area with dozens of animals. There were three large dogs, countless goats, a llama and a horse. This wouldn't have been a problem, except that we had our lab with us, and we couldn't let him out of the car. We had to back out of the lot, trying to avoid all the animals while a giant dog chased us down the road.

We ended up going to campsite 2, which was a dusty pulloff of a dusty road, with no real flat area for a tent. There was a fire grate and a picnic table with wood for making a fire. There was also a dog with no tags at our campsite that would not leave. Linda was very kind to us and checked to see if we needed anything. At that point, we were so tired and confused, we just wanted to go to bed. While we were making dinner the largest dog from Linda's house came down the hill to our campsite, barking nonstop at us. We decided it would be best to keep our dog in our car for the evening because we didn't want a confrontation. There was loud partying at the house nearby and it was hard to sleep. Then at 4 in the morning, we were woken up by the same dog who came all the way back to our campsite and set up shop right outside of our car and tent and barked consistently for 20 minutes. We couldn't get it to leave so we just quickly packed up our tent and shoved it in our car to leave.

It was a horrible night's stay and put me off of HipCamp, which makes me really sad. I have had awesome experiences with in the past and am regular camper/backpacker so "roughin it" is something I am comfortable with. This was just another level of terrible.

Great place for a weekend adventure. The canyon can be a bit of a hike depending on what part you want to get to, but it was a blast. Temperatures this time of year wasn’t bad, but not much water in the creek. Had a great time exploring.

Linda is an awesome host with a heart of gold! Ask her about the fruit wine she makes at her winery, or better yet, go visit the tasting room just down the road! Her property is beautiful with lots of amazing trees and a creek running through. By mid July, the creek is running pretty dry, but it had enough cool water for our dogs to take a dip and for us to put our feet in. I found many turkey feathers, heard lots of beautiful bird calls, and saw an Osprey and other cool birds fly overhead. By this time of year, there was a fire ban, but that didn't damper our good time! The drive out to the property is extremely beautiful rolling farm land until you drive into this little forested canyon. I had a great time camping here! Just remember, these sites are primitive, so come prepared for anything!

Very nice site, we stayed at site #1, falls were a bit of a walk but very pretty and the large granite rocks were a blast to climb on. Site was clean and a fire ring was already built. We were welcomed not only by our hostess but by two fluffy pooches, three horses, a herd of goats and a guard lama!! Surprising but it all added up to an exciting stay.

I loved this campsite! There was a ton of land to explore, with trails going around the creek and next to the falls. There were lots of really great spots to pitch a tent or to hang a hammock next to the creek, where you can fall asleep to the sound of running water. It was very private and peaceful, a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature
