in Los Padres National Forest, CaliforniaBeautiful views, right on the coastline. Being big sur there are no sandy beaches, but the coastline is stunning none the less. Well maintained when I was there, although raccoons are everywhere and if you do not use the provided food storage containers they will chew their way into your tent and eat your food (according to the camp host it has happened many times).

Extremely busy during the summer. Beautiful beaches, but no solitude.
in Sinkyone Wilderness State Park, California
Extremely remote. The road from the highway to the campsite is over 8 miles of dirt and potholes. Poison oak prevalent.
