Sara M.doesn't recommend this listing.
This was an extremely primitive camp. The pictures were misleading of the amenities. The listing said most of those amenities (like shower which is pretty damn important if you book multiple days like we did) were still both pictures and listed as available. there was no electricity to use anywhere on the property. the toilet was kind of unsafe tbh the lid/seat was rough and not attached to the top of a waste barrel so one could easily have hit the top off and fallen into a barrel of crap. The pathways up to the camp were very slippery and dusty and not maintained nor was anything else. The sink was filthy. Gene had no knowledge of anything to do in the area. When asked about a hike, he vaguely knew of one... somewhere..that was hard. When asked about what lay in either direction-he falsely said gas was not near for another 40 miles on the left. It actually was a lot closer than that, and we spent our entire time driving to the right because of this incorrect information. Almost 90% of Big Surâs trails and parks are closed right now and the landscape is patched, sad, and treeless. The only redeeming thing about this camp was that it was near the beach and a creek so the sound of water was nice. The cabana had completely loose floor boards and a piece of wood clumsily placed in front as a sort of welcome mat which was ! Surprise ! Also easy to fall on. The garbage area was not maintained and trash was littered around the cans. In a sentence-gene had a lovely property that is very much Not cared for or suited to have guests. He offers no amenities, knowledge, or even greeting as a host and you kind of feel like youâre wandering around on someoneâs island -halfway welcome because you are paying an outrageous fee to sleep outside and float their mortgage

Past trip
in Personal Creekside Camping, CaliforniaMary was a most gracious and accommodating host. We really enjoyed our stay here and felt like our privacy was respected and that the space and we were cared for. Mary was kind enough to make some gentle suggestions of what to do in the area and Iâm glad we listened to her. We found beautiful swim spots along the Yuba river, cute little towns, and places to get goods along the way. The area gets very remote (outside of Maryâs property) and I often lost cell reception. It was nice to be provided with a detailed explanation of our surroundings and a map. She also was helpful in lending us items needed but forgotten (can opener! Doh!) and swim tubes and a pump that we floated around in on one of our meandering drives. Because of the smoke, she was even courteous enough to offer us an indoor space if we felt uncomfortable. The sound of the creek at night was lulling and wonderful. Mary is a natural host who I would recommend highly!
