Hummingbird Hvn @Turtle Rock
in Turtle Rock Hollow Retreat, New YorkStaying at Turtle Rock Hollow was an amazing experience. Catherine was a wonderful host with a wealth of information on anything you could possibly want to do in the Finger Lakes area on your stay. After you get situated in your cabin, she will help you plan out what ever it is you want to do during your stay. It's clear that a lot of love and attention to detail went into this site and I was very impressed by all the campsite had to offer. I think it strikes a balance between comfort and ruffing it quite well; you can unplug but still keep your phone charged, go hiking but still be able to shower off, cook over an open fire but prep the food in a kitchen. It makes the campsite versatile in a way that can accommodate the needs of almost any group; be it a family with two kids and a dog, a couple getting away for a weekend, or for exploring the area's wineries. I can't recommend coming here enough during the peak of autumn, the Finger Lakes are absolutely stunning when the leaves start changing colors and Turtle Rock Hollow is no exception!
Honeoye Lakeside Camping
in Honeoye Lakeside Camping, New YorkThis campsite was amazing! It is a rather small property that is best for small groups of campers, but the location is fantastic. The deck overlooks Lake Honeoye, walk down the steps to find a small stony beach complete with a fire ring, dock, and canoe! Everything was well maintained and the storage shed was well stocked with life vests, paddles, cook ware, etc. Annie stopped by to check in with me and was a wonderful host. It's pretty much the perfect little lakeside camping getaway!
Eagles' Orchard
in Eagles' Orchard on the Iroquois, New YorkEagles Orchard was an interesting property to say the least. First of all, it directly borders Iroquois National Wildlife Reserve, seriously, the refuge begins at the end of the property lines and it is awesome. When I arrived I was a little worried that I wasn't in the right place, there was out house out front that has seen some better days with no trespassing and don't tread on me signage that was a bit intimidating for being by myself on this trip. But, after double checking the address, I went around back and the site was actually quite nice. The house shields the property from the road so while it does feel like camping in a back yard, it also feels very private. There is plenty of space for both tent and RV campers as well as plenty of fire wood on the site. Across the road, there is an expansive field perfect for spotting some wildlife or stargazing at night. There was also an awesome overlook/fishing spot on the wildlife refugee with easy car access less than a half mile down the road. All in all this was a neat camping spot that I would definitely come back to and would definitely recommend.
"Valley View Camp" Montour Falls NY
in Valley View Camp, New YorkSite 5 - Cherry Hill Campground
in Cherry Hill Campground, New YorkCherry Hill Campgrounds was a fantastic campsite! It sits directly across the street from Darien Lake amusement park and offers tent camping as well as lean-to style cabins. This site is a perfect base-camp for the outdoorsy family looking to make a weekend out of the amusement park. The host, Gretchen, told me its usually quiet outside of Darien Lake concert nights and on slower days she usually lets campers pick their sites! Sites are pretty spacious and secluded in the treeline, they include a fire pit and picnic table, and the sites form a circle around a field with the bathrooms, seating areas, and games. The field by the camp entrance will give you a great view of the sunset!
Summer Hills Farm - Canadice, NY
in Summer Hills Farm - Dairy Goats, New YorkSummer Hills Farm was a wonderful campsite. The property was beautiful and its clear that the owner, Jane, puts a lot of time into keeping it well maintained! The property features a tent camping site back in the woods where hipcampers can set up for their stay as well as a cabin site listed on AirBnB. The property has a large pond stocked with perch and small mouth bass that is open for campers to fish in. There were plenty of animals around between the goats, chickens, and cats on the property! There is a lot to do in the surrounding area, Harriet Hollister park is only a couple minutes drive with multipurpose trails for hiking and biking. It is also a quick drive up to Honeoye or Canadice lakes for paddling or fishing! I would highly recommend staying here to anyone considering the site, there is a lot to do and it is a beautiful property.
Pine Hill Retreat Campsite
in Pine Hill Retreat Camping, New YorkThe Pine Hill Retreat Bunkhouse was great! The cabin is situated in a field up the side of a mountain with a great vista view if you hike up the hill a ways. The inside of the cabin is well decorated with useful and interesting items including books, fishing poles, cooking supplies, and oil lamps. The desk in front of the window gives a great view directly towards the sunset. There are 3 beds inside, but there is space for small tents outside for larger groups. The out house was a porta-john, but was very clean. I really enjoyed my stay here, the only complaint I can think of is how hot it gets inside the cabin on a sunny summer day. The campsite is a short way from Naples, NY with plenty of great activities to do in the area!
"Mountainside Camp" (Naples, NY)
in Valley View Camp, New YorkOverall, this was a fantastic site to stay at. It makes a perfect base camp for exploring Naples and the surrounding region. We took a trip to Grime's Glen 10 Min. down the road and passed a couple great fishing spots along the way, I would highly recommend taking a trip down there to cool off on a hot day. Canandaigua Lake is super close for kayaking/swimming/fishing. Plenty of vineyards in the region make the mountain side camp a great place to stay for those interested in wine tastings. The camp itself is on the small side and lends itself to smaller groups. My one gripe was how close it is to the road, but it was not a deal breaker. The field across the street makes a great place to star gaze at night. The site is rather bare-bones which could be a con to some, but we saw it as an blank canvas - you can really make it your own while there. The ground is rough and uneven which is not ideal for large tents - we recommend 1-2 man tents in order to find a good spot. The site was absolutely fantastic for hammocks, there are plenty of trees close together for complex multi-hammock setups! I recommend this site for any small group looking to explore the Canadaigua/Naples region!
