Ardor Wood Farm Camping
in Ardor Wood Farm, TexasTent Sites
in Alamo River RV Resort, TexasNice spot along the river.
I was a little hesitant because of the RV park, but decided to go check it out anyway. Check in was a little bit of a hassle. They needed to enter all of my information that I had already given to hipcamp into their own system, etc, but finally got through that.
Once you drive past the RV part, the tent camping area is totally separate from RVs. If full, you would be near other people (similar to what you might find at a state park) but for my last minute weekday reservation, I was the only one in my little section by the river, which was nice. At that section, the river was a little hard to get in and out of, but there is another section up the road (âthe pointâ) that looked a little more user friendly.
They used to sell firewood, but didnât have any when I went, but they were ok with me picking up fallen branches, and one of the people working there brought me some branches on the back of a 4wheeler, which was nice.
Each site had a fire ring, picnic table, and water spigot. You can pull your car right up to the site. There are a bunch of trails around there, that looked like they would be fun to explore on foot or on a mountain bike. Proximity to SA makes it easy to get to for San Antonio residents.
Site 2 - High Road Retreat and Campground
in High Road Retreat & Campground, TexasNice place near san marcos
Nice place. We were the only campers there, which was nice because we had the place to ourselves. Not as big as I imagined, but felt like we had privacy (could see the main house in the distance) but didnât see hosts or anyone else after check in. If there were other campers there it would be less private. Campsites were more distanced than at a typical state park, but would be visible or in noise range if it were full. We had zero issues because we were the only ones there. At our site there was fire pit, several tables (giant wood spools), an outhouse tent with a portable compost toilet. Lots of nice trees including some at good distance for hammocks. After we packed up, we drove about 15 min to have a swim in the San Marcos river which was nice. Kids were able to ride mountain bikes on a small loop around the campsites which they enjoyed.
