We arrived happy to be in a tent of some kind after ours was blown to pieces in a windstorm at the Valley of Fire State Park. When we walked in we saw the floor had not been swept and there was sand everywhere. Maybe the wind had blown it in, but given how far back into the tent it went I didn’t think that was likely.
When we stepped out onto the back porch, the view was gorgeous but we were distracted by the trash left both on the patio and down on the ground. My kids found a cotton swab, tent bag, broom head, broom handle, pepper core, mostly empty water jug and half a styrofoam cooler in the 10 hours we were there.
The tent itself was a bit janky as well. One side of the screen was shredded (maybe from a dog) and it had haphazardly been duct taped for a less than desirable effect. Several camping lights hung from a rope in the middle of the ceiling, none of which had batteries that worked. I’m not sure if they were left on purpose, but if not the. Then should have been checked or removed.
When we went to checkout that “bathroom” we found that it was an outhouse with toilet paper everywhere and it absolutely wreaked. Given that it was in the 40’s I can’t imagine how unbearable it would be in the summer. Thank goodness we brought our own camping toilet.
We won’t be returning, which is too bad because the area is beautiful. However if you need something in a pinch, this is better than the desert floor.
