Itty Bitty Lakes Campground
in Itty Bitty Lakes Campground, Coloradoâas educators, we should⌠dealâ
Photos did not represent the current condition of the campground. The lower area near the water was over grown and had no individual site parking. The upper area was being used as a migrant camp for a rafting crew. We were told by the host that bathrooms were cleaned once a week. We could tell when we went in and were unhappy with the cleanliness and smell.
We chose not to stay, drove away, and cancelled our reservation.
(In our original correspondence, I had indicated that my friend and I were educators traveling cross country and would be in the area and wanted to book the camp.)
I texted the host letting her know we would not be staying and asked for a refund. The host, Kay, responded, wanting to know why we did not come to her first. (Totally understands all; however, there was TOO much to overcome, and a conversation wouldnât have changed our choice to leave)
Her additional response included âAs educators you should know how to deal with things. I am truly disappointed.. Kay"
We are still shocked at her comment which bothered us the most.
I cannot recommend the campground.

Highly recommend Backcountry site 2, if you are up for about a mile hike to get there. It was secluded back in the wetlands area and is a hidden gem. Very large site with lots of trees for my hammock. One of my favorite parts of the trip was hearing the symphony of wetlands animals through the sunset, early evening, and sunrise. Deer wandered in the area and we heard lots of owls at night, and saw one in the trees.
Camping, hiking, and disc golf were our favorite activities. The Duck River was flooded out of its banks, so fishing pretty much was impossible. We gave up after losing lots of hooks and bobbers to the trees.
It was beautiful. I will be heading back!
in Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina
Just got back from an amazing camping trip at Lake Powhatan. We had 2 tents and a couple of hammocks. Site #50 was PERFECT for us. It was close to fill water jugs and a short walk to the bathroom/shower area. Hiking and Mountain Bike trails were right at the site. We went on a few 5k hikes, but if you are a biker, THIS is the place for you. The campground was super clean and had firewood for purchase (cash only). Grocery was less than 10 minutes, and downtown Asheville was just a bit more up the road. Cell service was non existent, but we weren't there to be on our phones. Highly Recommend!!
