in Davis Mountains State Park, TexasThe Indian Lodge is closed for renovations. The hiking is top-notch. The Sheep Pen Canyon Loop Trail requires a sign-in at the park office. The campsites are nestled in the valley. One of our favorite parks in Texas.

in Guadalupe River State Park, TexasTurkey Sink has trail access to the river. Spots cover a lot of ground, so plenty of room for setting stuff up outside of your camper or tent.

in Big Bend National Park, Texas$16 to stay, even though there are no hookups. There are a couple of restrooms, and water spigots. Close access to several trails, including the Hot Springs Trail. General Store nearby with wifi connection (no service in the campground). Close to port-of-entry to Boquillas, Mexico. Worth the trip across the river ($5 row boat).

in Francis Marion National Forest, South CarolinaFREE. No connections, but well-marked sites, and a sketchy outhouse. Old abandoned fire tower marks the spot. Several trails leading out of the camp. Close to McClellanville (historic shrimping community). Close to Charleston.

in Curry Hammock State Park, FloridaBeautiful. The water is great, the beach is white. Worth renting a kayak to check out dolphins, turtles, fish and even some small hammerhead sharks in the shallow water. Spots are decent sized. Hookups are great.

in Kisatchie National Forest, LouisianaFREE. Just a field with no official sites. Plenty of room for several camps, just don't be rude and park in the middle of the field.

in St. Andrews State Park, FloridaGreat beach. Great campground. Spots are close together, but plants and trees divide them, making it seem more private. Deer everywhere. A few gators, too.
