The coastline is rough & protected. McWay Falls is a must. IRS the only beach on California coastline with a huge waterfall that spills on the sandy beach. Try to avoid visiting on weekends or holidays as tourists flock to this spot. There is an easy trail with a comfy bench at end of your walk. You can sit and watch the beautiful sunset. The entire park is photographers paradise.

Going during fall and winter months are best. You can car camp as well as rent cabins. Great opportunity for night star photography and sunrises. Very dark skies best from about March until November. Summer is an awful time to be there with temperatures well over 100 degrees. Bad Water is the lowest elevation point in the United States. In winter, you can drive from desert to snow.

This is a very easy campground with the town of Lone Pine to support your camping should you need foiod it hotel for a break. This is a dark sky photographer’s attraction where you can easily shoot the Milky Way rise over Mobius Arch,. There is a hostel in Lone Pine for Trekkers, too. It’s very inexpensive. Also, do not miss visiting the Manzanar memorial to WW2 interned Japanese ten miles north in town of Independence. Visitor center runs continuous documentary on the tragic history of what President Reagan called, “A mistake.” The monument will touch your heart.
