Past trips
in White River National Forest, Colorado
Nearest town is Aspen. If you need to get a hotel room for some reason, be prepared to pay minimum $375.00 per night (2016). The rangers and camp staff around here are extremely grumpy. Did not have a good time. Maroon bells is big business-I found the hordes of people everywhere extremely annoying.
in San Isabel National Forest, Colorado
From 12pm on beware of surprise fast moving dangerous lightning storms at higher altitudes than the campgrounds: hike to summits in the EARLY MORNING in the months of July-August. Take cover & lie flat if lightning comes.
in Pike National Forest, Colorado
Know how to river fish or you won't catch anything. Fishermen there are serious about fishing, so I suggest keeping the kids on the quieter side during the day. Riverside campground, which isnt as far into the canyon is better for families.
