85 VW van (Choncho)
in Camp Electra, CaliforniaCute van stay
We stayed Friday night and Saturday night. There was a group staying at the campsite too. They were close by, but really respectful of noise and were similar closeness as you would find at a state campground. The van does not have a working stove, but Ryan has an outdoor double burner propane stove you can use. He has a couple pans you can use but share with the other camp if there are people there which he says this was the first time both sites were booked at the same time. The cast iron he offered needed seasoning, so I recommend just bringing your own pans, spatula, plates, bowls cups and utensils. You can hear noise from the highway, but that is often the same as state campgrounds too. The bed was soft, and more comfortable than sleeping in a tent. My partner is 6â3â so his feet dangled off the end as expected, but he said it was fine. I do not think it could fit more than 2 people. Ask Ryan ahead of time if youâre bringing a dog and want it to sleep in the van, because I donât think he wants that if your dog sheds a lot. It was fun walking to Renegade Winery Friday night for dinner and dancing to live music with the older crowd. We drove to a hike in Stanislaus on Saturday and stopped at Posterity Cider house on the way back. The Vaught Beach swimming hole is great and only 15min drive. It seems like Ryan is still getting into the swing of hosting, but heâs really friendly and will bring you what you need from his house. We bought firewood from him which was plentiful.
Rise and Shine
in Sierra Sol Camp, CaliforniaEven better than the pictures
This was such a great escape from the city during COVID shelter in place. Even though smoke is covering California from multiple fires, we were ok spending time outside at the Solis Family Farm. The surrounding trees help a lot. The bed in the Rise and Shine tent was leaning a bit, but I bet Deja fixes that soon. We stuffed a couple extra pillows under one side of the mattress and it evened out great. The chickens and ducks loved being fed our compost scraps. Deja had left us some fresh eggs which were very yum. There are a bunch of dogs on the farm who took some time warming up to our dog, but they were all friends by the second day. :) Deja was a great host. Her friends would swing by and were so generous. Deja recommended a nearby swimming hole and it was awesome. I didn't realize the outdoor kitchen would be so great and have so much helpful stuff including pots, pans, bowls, plates, silverware, cups, sink, sponges, soap, salt, pepper and other spices, etc. We shared the ice machine, refrigerator, stove and oven with the other guests, rotating who would be in the kitchen cooking at a single time, and wiping everything down between uses. There are many tables spread out to allow for safe social distancing while you hang out or eat. There was a kettle for boiling hot water for coffee/tea and a french press. We brought a medium cooler for extra groceries/drinks, because we had a longer trip planned afterward. The outdoor shower is private, beautiful, and includes fluffy towels. When I go back, I will probably stay in their Yurt next time because it looked extra luxurious. Thank you for having us Deja!
