Close to general store and saloon, which is a plus! Like most campgrounds in the park, these sites fill quickly.
in Angeles National Forest, California
This site is almost always full. Either go at 7 AM to catch campers leaving a site (you may have to wait a while), OR return every few hours until a site is open.

This campground is almost always empty. Very peaceful and private but close to the road. Also very sandy and not very wooded.
in Malibu Creek State Park, California
This site is expensive, but is a god backup if all of the other Malibu campsites are taken. Not a lot of privacy.
in Death Valley National Park, California
Empty, higher in elevation, beautiful skies at night. Sites are completely sand; I suggest placing rocks around the inside seams of your tent so it will not blow away when your stakes inevitably fail (blame the sand).
