1855 Campground is 45 acres of private property, dedicated to the natural Ozark experience. We border the Mark Twain National Forest, enjoy the outdoors at its best. Our space offers 7 large campsites to provide privacy & serenity.

Shallow and deep all throughout. Great for wading, swimming, floating, kayaking. Great small mouth fishing! We are approximately one mile by water from the St. Francois River. We have kayaked down the creek to the river for many years.
The farm is very rural. We are 16 miles to the closest gas station, and 25 miles to town. There is no internet. Cell phone service is spotty at best.
Currently a working farm, we have 2 high tunnels on the property behind the house, and our original market garden.
Across the creek we are finishing up our 5 acre agroforestry planting. 3 acres of elderberries and 2 acres of blackberries.
28 acres, 3 on one side, and 25 on the other.
The farm is located approximately 2 hours south of St. Louis.
Fredericktown is 30 mins away. Food, Drinks, Golf, and Lalo's Mexican Restaurant! There are a ton of local antique shops, and outdoor activities.

Guests will have access to the 40 acres of land surrounding them. There are two ponds on the premise. Enjoy the quarter-mile walk to the old Dillard Mill Store, displayed in museum fashion at the entrance of Dillard Mill State Historic Site. Tour the old grist mill in working form, fish for sunfish, smallmouth bass and largemouth bass at the Mill, and take memorable photos. Just across from our main entrance take the half-mile trail through Mark Twain National Forest and skip rocks on the Huzzah Creek! Ask us about access to our private gravel bar on the Huzzah. You will pass it, and the private parking, on Dillard Mill Rd on your drive into Pine Valley
We may or may not be on the premise during individual rentals. If there are any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out.
Other things to note
While this space provides most utilities and amenities you'd find at your home, it is important to note it is still a camping-style getaway. We do our best to treat the area, but you will encounter insects.
AT&T has limited cell phone reception in the area, Sprint is very spotty, and Verizon is pretty much unavailable for service. We provide the best free wifi available to help with communication back to the real world, but it is rather slow. The best wifi reception is near the General Store/Courtyard.
We try and keep the area well maintained. You may see ATVs/tractors on our property and on the gravel road.
Pets are welcome for an extra $50 per stay. Please note our dogs may be on the property. They are friendly and well-behaved, although sometimes curious. Other guests may have no-leash pets as well.
Park right next to your glamper. Arrive anytime after 4pm, just give us an eta to know when to expect you. If your glamper is not ready upon your arrival, feel free to explore our farm, visit Dillard Mill or head down to the Huzzah while we make it ready for your stay. Self Check-In is always the norm for added privacy. We won't bother you except to wave or maybe say hello if you're out and about. Please feel free to approach us with questions, niceties, or needs.

Located in a serene valley in the Ozark Highlands, the Ranch has Sheep, Scottish Highland Cattle, Chickens, Ducks and Great Pyrenees livestock guard dogs (only in the sheep pastures - and they are friendly). This is a unique site located in the Ozark Highlands. Only 45 minutes from Cape Girardeau (a small river town on the Mississippi), and 45 minutes from the Arcadia Valley including Taum Sauk mountain (the highest point in Missouri), Elephant Rocks, the Johnston Shutins, and other beautiful areas in the highlands.
The farm is five minutes from Marble Hill, which is home to the Bollinger County Natural History museum which highlights the only dinosaur bones found in Missouri. The bones were found at a farm in Glennallen (a few minutes from our farm) as well as a great barbeque (Jay’s Restaurant) and a good catfish restaurant (Jers Restaurant). On the way to our farm, feel free to stop at the 1,700 foot deep artesian well to get a cool, refreshing jug of natural artesian well water – the water is free, but you have to bring your own containers!
We are two and a half hours southwest of St. Louis, and two and half hours northwest of Memphis.

camp with a beautiful lake view, welcome to nature and ranch life with horse nays and goats, farm animals. Everything was great except for us the gravel rv park was rocky. Hard to walk on and Get the camper level. Grandkids couldn’t walk well on it but other than that a very nice campground.

This was a great place to camp. Great scenery, saw bald eagles and lots of wildlife. Camp sites are right by a rolling creek.
The campground host was a great guy and showed us around, super helpful.
Will definitely return, highly recommended

Cozy, well thought out tiny house. I felt very taken care of in the way the house was set up as if my needs were anticipated. The clasper soaking tub is a touch of luxury. The setting is beautiful. Birds, bunnies, and horses were lovely company. Definitely recommend.

The campsite clearing was great, and the large fire pit was a really nice bonus. Having the whole place to myself was the best part, Total privacy. The hiking trail is short but has good elevation gains. Highly recommend if you're looking for a peaceful, private getaway.

Darrell and Jeanna were excellent hosts; they were friendly and helpful while also being mindful of the importance of the solitude needed to thoroughly enjoy their beautiful property. We will definitely go back for another visit (or more).
This visit was towards the end of November, so the shower and privy were welcome comforts in the brisk weather, though also invigorating. Fireside relaxation was the primary activity as we watched an impressive variety of birds by the pond. With the lack of light pollution, the stargazing opportunities were a treat. We hope to be back for the wine harvest next year!

My second time visiting this camp site. I’m a novice at camping. Each time that I visited, I was impressed: friendly staff, helpful fellow campers, and aesthetically pleasing environment, e.g, lakefront view, farm animals, swimming pool, hot tubs available in select rentals and renovated bath houses. Very safe setting for solo campers, couples and families.

We had a great time camping on Teresa's land. It has all the hookups you need and more! Very peaceful remote area, but still close enough to Van Buren that fetching any forgotten supplies is a breeze. She was also very kind, suggesting locations, offering advise, and even getting us some extra fire wood. One thing of note is to not listen to your GPS when arriving and actually read Teresa's email with detailed directions. Lol Otherwise you end up down her neighbor's driveway and look like an idiot. 😂

Such a great spot for a getaway! The campground was peaceful, well-kept, and had everything we could’ve needed for a perfect tent camping weekend. The lake views were absolutely stunning—especially with all the fall colors reflecting on the water. The bathhouse felt luxurious for camping! We absolutely loved our stay here! The campground was beautiful—tucked right by a gorgeous lake surrounded by stunning fall colors. It felt like an adult summer camp in the best way possible! Everything we needed was right on site, from fire pits to picnic areas. The bath and shower house was impressively clean, warm, and one of the nicest we’ve seen at a campground. You can tell the owners put a lot of care into maintaining the place. We had such a peaceful, cozy stay and can’t wait to come back again next season!

The farm and staff are absolutely fantastic! We had an issue with charges, which they resolved with some investment of time on their part. They all I’ve and beyond in service. Helping us find our site in the dark, making sure we had enough supplies and even throwing a pair of jeans in the dryer for our teenager 😁

This full hook-up site was perfect in every way! It is so peaceful and in a pretty setting. We spent a week and enjoyed each day. Teresa is a wonderful host and a very kind person. About
Mountains in Missouri?! While Missouri’s mountains might not rival the peaks to the west, the state has some surprisingly high points, with Taum Sauk Mountain reaching a height over 1,700 feet. Unlike the rest of the surrounding Ozarks Mountains, the St. Francois Mountains were formed by volcanic activity, creating a rollicking landscape. Taum Sauk State Park provides epic overlooks and truly adventurous trails. Take a short walk to reach the official high point plaque, or set out on the Ozark Trail, which runs through the park, connecting to 400 miles of trails crossing southeastern Missouri.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for tent campers: Taum Sauk Mountain Campground has 12 walk-in sites.
- Best for large groups: Taum Sauk Mountain Campground has two special-use areas that can accommodate up to 50 people.
- Best for RVers: Johnson’s Shut-In State Park Campground (30 miles to the west) has five loops with a variety of site types and amenities.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- Campsites are all first-come-first-serve, with no reservations needed.
- The campground is open year round.
- Sites are only suitable for tents since they are walk-in only.
- Facilities appropriate for RVs and car camping can be found at Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park, in Mark Twain National Forest, and at private RV parks across the region.
- Water is available April 1 through October 31.
When to go
Adventurous hikers can enjoy the trails at Taum Sauk Mountain State Park year round. Spring and fall offer the most comfortable temperatures, with scenic landscapes as the wildflowers bloom and the leaves change to autumnal colors. Summer can be hot and humid in this region, and winter brings occasional freezing temperatures. If you want to see the waters flowing at Mina Sauk waterfall, visit the park after heavy rains—just be prepared for wet and muddy trail conditions.
Know before you go
- Services are limited with no showerhouse or dump station onsite.
- Potable water spigots and vault toilets are located near the camping area entrance.
- The 2.9-mile Mina Sauk Trail takes hikers past the highest waterfall in Missouri (which flows only after good rains). This is a challenging trail, with rugged terrain and some water crossings. A short section of the trail is wheelchair-accessible and takes visitors to the highest point in Missouri.
- The 400-mile long Ozark Trail runs through the park. A popular 14.5-mile section connects Taum Sauk Mountain State Park with Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park, passing through some of the trail’s most scenic spots.
