Experience upscale camping–Glamping in the Forested Hills of Lake Superior. Sailor Springs is a small three-site campground located just two miles outside of the picturesque tourist town of Bayfield, WI. 2023 will be our first year of operation and we’re excited to host campers on the property and provide a unique camping experience.
The campground is spread out over 5 acres of forest that you’ll hike into from Bresette Hill Road. After parking at the trailhead, you’ll gather your bags and hike into your glamping site. The trail winds through the woods, leading you first to a valley where the seasonal Clark Creek runs through in the spring. The first two campsites are on the other side of this valley. The trail can be steep in spots and requires a moderate level of fitness and mobility to reach the secluded campsites. The third site is a bit farther into the forest, the little A-frame cabin, Anchor sits on the edge of the spring-fed Brickyard Creek that flows year-round.
We have many plans for the property and depending on when you stay, the campground will be in various stages of development. The campsites, trailhead / parking area, and trails are scheduled to be completed in early spring. We hope to add amenities such as a camp sauna and screened-in gazebo later in the 2024 summer / fall. Amenities include wood-fired sauna shared by all cabins. Each cabin has its own outdoor fire-pit and picnic table. A variety of outhouses are throughout the camp. Direct access to Superior Hiking Trail and North Shore Mountains Ski Trail. Cabins are spaced for privacy! We also have canoes and sea kayaks available at our outfitting base in town for rental. A 4 night stay includes free use of an aluminum canoe for a day.

Weekend Trip to Basecamp du Nord
The cabin strikes a perfect balance between privacy and convenience. Its peaceful, secluded setting offers a quiet retreat, yet it remains only a short drive from shopping and provides quick access to Highway 61. Inside, the space is spotless, well maintained, and efficiently organized. Exactly what we were looking for—very remote, peaceful, and private. The hike to the site was clearly communicated in advance, so we were prepared, but it was moderately challenging, especially with gear. The hill down to the fire pit was a little tricky when the dirt was wet, but the beautiful, secluded setting made it well worth the effort. The cabin was spotless, super cozy, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
Abe was awesome to work with! We had one site booked for a night and another for two nights, and he made the transition between them incredibly easy. He also checked in on us after a storm passed through and stayed responsive via the app whenever we had questions. You can tell he really cares about making sure campers have a good experience. Would absolutely recommend this spot to anyone looking to disconnect and enjoy some true quiet time in nature!

Didn’t have time to take pictures but just like shown in pictures. Nice view and quite even though it’s by other houses. You pretty much have the whole lake, I don’t see anyone. So many parks and lake and views nearby.

Went late fall camping here and it was a great time. There was only one other group in our campground, so we had most everything to ourselves. The main office was closed due to the late season, so if you needed anything you needed to call down to the nearby Tettegouche office.
Our campsite was right next to several trails leading straight down to the lake & river, which we were only separated from by a tree-filled hillside, listening to the waves crash as we fell asleep.
Lots of good hiking and exploring to do within the park itself (the Superior Hiking Trail goes right through the park), and many more spots to check out along the shore nearby, as well.

Similar to Cascade River State Park, you'll find a wayside along highway 61 that affords spectacular waterfall views at Temperance River State Park. During the summer when the water is low, there are several great cliff jumping spots here. Remember to be safe!
