This 160 acre farm used to be a sod farm, and then a Christmas tree farm. Camping provided is in the remnants of the uncut Christmas tree forest which is about 6 acres. Small little get away from Rochester. Airport traffic, but it is enjoyable. 10 minutes to downtown Rochester. PLEASE KEEP DOGS OFF OF THE BEDS IN THE CABIN.

Third time at The Edge charming rustic cabin since earlier this summer. It was wonderful to see the seasonal differences of the surrounding corn and soy bean fields over the months. Other than the host Edward stopping by on the day of arrival to show me the ropes of the wood stove, my dog and I had complete solitude for four nights. Like my last two visits, I hit the weather jackpot with sunny breezy days near 65-70 degrees and mild nights. Hard to imagine tiring of this sweet place. Edward has been timely in responding to all my questions and for those who aren't familiar with the general area, everything you can imagine for your camping/cabin/food needs are about 10 minutes away (Fleet Farm, Menards, various fast and slow food restaurants, etc.).

This was my second trip to the cabin at The Edge; it will likely not be my last. This is one of my favorite places to visit! First, a few things to consider: The entire property has no electric or potable water. The ceiling lights inside the cabin are VERY dim, so bring good supplemental light. The exterior light over the door is also VERY low light. The lovely hanging garden lights around the parameter of the site are lovely but dim solar lights. Second, bring something to use for curtains. There are four windows in total; I use a cut up light weight canvas painter's cloth cut into quarters and they work really well! I tie them back during the daytime for added light. Third, this cabin in RUSTIC, in that there are well-used (not fresh) sheets on the beds and is quite dusty. I bring my own fitted sheet and blankets/pillows. Some folks might like to use a sleeping bag instead. Fourth - there was recent rain and lots of mud; one family using a tent site got stuck - they were driving a van rig and pulling a car - ultimately, they had to call a pro towing service and it ate up a couple of hours of their day and a few hundred $. I imagine this can be remedied by contacting the owner first to hear about conditions. This is a beautiful little area that I cherish. There is airplane and car noise, but I was easily able to block it out and enjoy the birds. On the edge of a wooded area and up-close-and-personal to acres of corn and soybean fields. I can hardly wait to return.

Host Edward always answered my questions very promptly. The property is a patch of wooded area surrounded by corn fields. It was beautiful! The small cabin is located at the edge of the wooded area and the front porch faces the corn fields. I did hear traffic in the distance and a few airplanes every day; the sounds did not bother me at all. Lots of birds to listen to and watch! The cabin is quite cute on the exterior and basic and rustic on the inside; no electrical or water, although there is a main outhouse and I think a non-potable water source; I had self-contained equipment and supplies so can't speak to either. There is a wood burning stove that I did not need to use because I was plenty warm at night. The windows (4) do not have window coverings and I knew this in advance, so just brought cloth and pins to take care of that. I originally booked two nights and loved the experience so much, I was able to stay a third night (and will be returning for four nights in the fall!) If you like rustic, you will likely love staying at Edward's place! PS while I stayed in the cabin and also no one else on the property, I got to peek at the camp sites as well. I would definitely be delighted to tent camp on any one of the sites; a couple were quite spacious and all had sturdy fire pits.

Weekend Trip to The Edge
Super barebones but that's what makes it so great! Nothing in the cabin but essentials. Looks to be very kid friendly as well. Multiple play areas and a tree-to-tree zipline. The firepit isn't too far away, but there's also a communal firepit halfway between the outhouse and cabin. Outhouse lights weren't working when we were there but it was plenty clean for an outhouse. One gripe about the actual cabin, no curtains/shades. This makes the cabin pretty open, but don't expect much privacy during your stay. We ended up hanging a couple blankets that we had. Arguably, the most comfortable cabin bet we've slept on though!

If you paddle into the canoe in sites , bring DRY wood with you . There will be some wood at the sites for you but it could be wet . Cover your wood with a garbage bag or tarp to keep it dry for your stay . OR , just make sure you have your backpacking stove along so you can cook your food :) This lake is very shallow and I didn't think the fishing would be good .
