The best camping in Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, UT

Take the name of this unique state park literally. Not only can you take in views of rolling pink sand dunes, you can zip across them on UTVs, ATVs, motorcycles, and more; sled down the dunes on a sandboard; or take a stroll in the sands if you prefer a slower pace. Plus, this park’s location in southwest Utah is within 75 miles of both Zion and Bryce Canyon national parks. The onsite campground offers over 30 campsites, with a mix of dry camping and electric hookups available. The surrounding region is home to BLM lands (maintained by the Bureau of Land Management), offering designated campgrounds and dispersed camping.

• Best for onsite adventures: If you want easy access to the dunes, stay onsite at the Coral Pink Sand Dunes Campground.
• Best for serenity: Just outside of the state park, the BLM-operated Ponderosa Grove Campground offers primitive camping in a scenic setting.
• Best for a combo visit with Zion: If you plan to visit both Coral Sand Dunes State Park and Zion National Park, check out Zion’s Watchman Campground.

Prepare for hot, dry, sunny days if visiting in summer, when temperatures regularly top 90 degrees, heating up the sands. The evenings cool significantly, so grab a jacket, even if you are camping in July and August. The shoulder seasons offer cooler daytime temperatures, but freezing overnight temperatures are not out of the question. Winters are cold with the potential for snow.
