The best camping near Crowley Lake guide

Lake Crowley is best known for its rock formations, the Crowley Lake Stone Columns. After the reservoir was completed strange objects began appearing on the lakes shores. As the softer rock surrounding the columns eroded away what was left is truly a sight to see. Just outside of both the Inyo and Sierra National Forests, you can see these 20-foot marvels.

When to go

The prime time to visit Crowley Lake is during the warmer months, from late spring to early fall, when the weather is ideal for outdoor activities. Winter can be harsh, with road closures and snow, making access challenging.

Know before you go

  • Check the latest road conditions and weather forecasts before your trip to ensure safe travel.
  • Be aware of wildlife in the area; store food securely and maintain a safe distance from animals.
  • Bring appropriate gear for changing weather conditions, as temperatures can drop unexpectedly.
  • Respect the natural environment by following Leave No Trace principles, including proper disposal of waste.
  • Accessibility may vary across different areas of the park, so plan accordingly if you have specific needs.
