The Copper Cabin was ranked among the TOP 10 locations in the nation to enjoy the outdoors in 2020 ** and 3rd Best US Hipcamp Cabin stay 2022.

The Copper Cabin is a completely self-contained off-grid hideaway situated just feet off the Montreal River in a pine and birch forest teaming with wildlife. Once you leave the road and the ATV/Snowmobile trail, you'll drive the two-track (or snowshoe) to the footbridge crossing the river and travelling by foot on up to the cabin in the woods. * This is a real wilderness destination that is not for everyone, but perfect for the adventurous spirit. Experience this comfy eco-friendly timber-framed abode complete with solar lighting, wood burning stove, convenient 12-volt refrigerator, indoor composting toilet, 12-volt entertainment center, water catchment/filter/dispenser system, antique gas cook top (sorry no oven) & more. Two large sleeping lofts have 1 queen bed, 1 double bed, and two futons. The space can accommodate up to 8 people and makes a restful getaway. The morning is welcomed in with views from the large Eastern window. There is a sauna/bath house currently under construction. Outdoor solar-lighted composting privy adds a second convenient toilet.

Thimbleberry, blueberry mingle along with Verbena, Astor, wild strawberry, and Lobelia along the forest floor and fringes. Miles and miles of flora and fauna for your nature-loving self.

Biking, hiking, snowshoeing, wildlife watching, hunting and brook-trout are all within steps of the covered rustic porch. Weber grill, fire ring with grill and picnic table invite you to the great outdoors where you can catch the Northern Lights in the super star-studded night sky. In the winter, the trees are dripping snowy frosting and paint this wonderland in opalescent beauty. You won't want to leave.

But there's so much in the area to customize your adventure--world-class skiing at Mount Bohemia, single-track biking in Copper Harbor and Calumet, kayaking, scuba, surfing, kite surfing, sailing, hiking, etc--so you'll want to plan time to venture out, or just plan your next adventure at the Copper Cabin.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE MAKING A RESERVATION. This is a true backcountry / wilderness experience,  with the inherent risks of wilderness travel. Sometimes the grass gets long, there is wildlife, and you're definitely a long way from room service -- but we believe that's part of the draw and what really shapes this unique experience. We do not offer grounds-keeping, linen nor cleaning service. Our friends at the Marquette Hampton Hilton do. Refunds will not be considered for mismanaged expectations, and any concerns can always be addressed with your host directly.

* Travel from base camp to bridge approximately 3/4 mile. Travel from Bridge to cabin approximately 1/4 mile.

We do accept a 2-day minimum stay, but we try to check every first-time guest in personally. When we do, we make a round trip of 14 hrs and it would be helpful if you would consider a 3-day or more stay.

We loved everything about our stay at the copper cabin! It serves as the perfect base camp for exploring Keweenaw Peninsula, however, we found it hard to leave the cabin. :) We especially enjoyed cooking on the old cook stove, eating our meals and playing yard games outside, sitting around the campfire at night, steaming in the sauna and bathing in the creek. I can't wait to return in the winter!

We stayed two nights with our children ages 17 & 20. It was a great place for relaxing after a busy few days of travel. Cell reception was great (helpful for figuring out where we would go next) and the cabin and sauna are beautiful. It was fun for my husband and I to see a place similar to something we'd like to build someday. Fun to learn more about using solar and the composting toilet. Bring your sense of adventure!

We loved our stay at the Copper Cabin -- it was a welcome retreat away from the world. We especially appreciated the experience of living in a more eco-aware way. It was also the perfect distance between Copper Harbor, Eagle Harbor, and Calumet where explored on day trips. Thanks for creating a haven away from it all that taught us more about conservation!

If you're looking for an off grid experience this is the place. We had all the amenities needed and it was truly secluded. Linda provided a great walkthrough upon arrival so we felt like we knew exactly what the cabin had to offer as well as how to use some of the unique features. There are a lot of options for exploration as well. From the property itself to the entire Keeweenaw peninsula. This was a fun and unique way to explore Michigan's Up North!

Linda is very sweet and helpful with information on how to use things in the cabin. The hike in is easy and the little river is lovely! It feels remote and very romantic alone in the woods. It is a rustic experience so be prepared for that. Expect bugs (you're in the woods!) and to work a bit to pump water, use the bathroom, etc. It's part of the experience!

We are family with teen age kid stayed in cabin. It's really like camping just sleeping inside the house. Creek is amazing I will recommend take a quick refresh bath in morning. The place is close to many UP attractions. The Copper Harbor is very nice town.
