    Learn more about this land: Fall asleep to hooting owls and the gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank your campsite. Wake up with a dip in the river or a morning hike in the woods. Feel the hug of the mountains throughout your stay, while also having access to Blacksburg nearby should you need it.  DIRECTIONS: - Upon entry the gravel road is shared with my neighbor and it is about 1.5 miles from the entry gate to the site. You'll enter thru a gate (it may be closed, if closed please close behind you as my neighbor sometimes has cows). Go approx 1 mile the road will split...go up the hill on the right. Continue past the Hay barn another half mile. Park on the left side of the gravel road along the tree line. Another 50ft you'll see a wood foot bridge across the creek. The sites are ahead, PawPaw is first, then Bloodroot Base Camp (bell tent), and lastly Cohosh Cove is the most private. Each site has a sign as well When driving, please be respectful of the right of way. Drive slowly and respect the farm equipment. Also please do not venture onto the neighbor’s property other than entry and exit. About the property 20 minutes from Blacksburg and 35 minutes from Roanoke, our campground gives you great access to the “Triple Crown” of the Appalachian trail, consisting of McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs, and Dragon’s Tooth. Conquer these iconic peaks of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains for spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness. Additionally, explore Falls Ridge Nature preserve, Cascades waterfall, and Carvin’s Cove for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.  Or just stay on the campground and enjoy the hiking and swimming we offer here.  Nearby in Blacksburg take advantage of the local breweries or Virginia Tech football home games. You can also find Christmas tree cutting in Floyd county, 45mins away.  This property deserves to be shared with others. It is peaceful and beautiful. As your Host, I am passionate about conservation and also teaching people about the medicinal uses of our local herbs. I can lead medicinal herb walks upon request for $25 a person. I typically try to meet the campers if I can upon arrival, I am available for questions and can be hands on or off as the needs of campers suggest. I have had campers ask if I wanted to share a beverage and sit around the fire and have done so. I want to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. I love the peacefulness the property offers, and that you’re in the middle of the wilderness but also have quick access to things in town. The river campsites are my favorite part of the property. At the main cabin I have goats and chickens which hipcampers are more than welcome to greet.  About the listing Pitch your tents at the campsite nestled along the side of the mountain on the banks of the North Fork of the Roanoke River. As you fall asleep, listen to the occasional hoot of an owl, howl of a coyote, and gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank the campsite. Campers will have access to a private composting toilet, fire pit, and picnic table.  We offer two different campsites on the property, so note that you may see or hear other campers on the grounds during your stay.  What to bring - Your tent and camping equipment - Potable water and/or water filtration and purification equipment - Fire starting equipment if needed, assuming there is no local fire ban in place - Pets are welcome - During warm months, a swim suit to enjoy the river! Additional details to note - There are grill grates provided but campers should bring their own camping stoves and cooking supplies if they need more than just a grill grate.  - No WiFi is provided, and there is limited reception for some cellular carriers.

    Bloodroot landing is a 13ft diameter bell tent with double sized mattress, wood stove ( season dependent), fire ring, picnic table with cooking grate. 2 camp chairs, please bring sleeping bags and any linens you'd prefer. The tent sits on a platform with a view of the river and mountains. It sits between the two campsites PawPaw and Cohosh Cove.

    Cohosh Cove is the most private tent site with fire ring with grill grate, picnic table, privy access, view of the river. You must park cross the foot bridge across the creek and walk approx. 100ft past the Bell Tent site. Parking is the mowed grassy area between the green box transformer and the Hamilton Hollar sign just before the foot bridge.

    PawPaw is the first site you will come to from the parking area it is flanked by the creek which runs perpendicularly into the North Fork of the Roanoke River with views of the mountains. After crossing the foot bridge you will have enough room for 2-3 2 person tents or 2x 4+person tents. There is a fire ring, cooking grate, picnic table, and privy. The creek and river are filterable for drinking. Adjacent to this is the Bell Tent approx 100ft.

    Intimate little setting. I ended up having to camp by myself, however, David kept me informed on the wildlife (resident bear) and that my visitors would most likely be 4 legged friendly dogs. They were good company. I was glad to hike and wade around with them.im definitely going to re- visit!

    This is such a beautiful spot tucked away in the woods, the sound of the creek soothing you as the sweeping views take your breath away. David was a fantastic host, and the directions to the campsite were clear and direct. I enjoyed my stay here and would highly recommend! A surprise visit from his friendly dogs brightened my night, and they got along very well with my dog as well. :)

    Cohosh Cover was an excellent getaway for our group. The sounds of the creek (more like a river near this site) was cozy to fall asleep to and we felt very protected by the friendly dogs on-site. We will definitely be back!

    We had an awesome time camping out on Paw Paw Point! David’s directions to the site were crystal clear and the site was spacious enough for our 3 hammocks. Only a few steps from the creek for washing up or hunting for crawdads too! David’s two dogs came down and hung out during sundown too which was a nice treat as well. Only thing to keep in mind is that the site is close to an active train track, so every now and then a train makes some noise coming through. However, that was not too disturbing. 10/10 great trip and would recommend.

    Its a cozy little spot right on the water. There are two great pyrenees that are absolute sweethearts. This is a lovely spot to just kick back, relax, and enjoy the sounds of nature.

    Waking up to the views and seeing so many stars made us want to stay again. We booked a second night during breakfast. This spot is wonderful, the hosts are fantastic. The dogs are our new best friends. We loved this place.

    We loved staying at Paw Paw Point. Arriving late, we were pleased to find well traveled paths to the campsite. Plus, David gave clear, concise directions to the site. After settling in and starting to cook dinner, we met a couple of the dogs on the property. They were especially friendly and very protective. We felt so safe at our site. The sounds of the creek were wonderful to fall asleep to. Waking to find the mountain views was spectacular. There was more than enough space to set up our base camp. We filtered water from the stream to use on our hikes. The composting pit toilet was clean (they even provided tp!) This stay was honestly perfect for what we wanted. Nice and secluded but still close enough to trails and provisions.

    Excellent place, excellent host. Tent was a great setup, with the bed you always want but never have on camping trips and the stove that makes the nights a bit more cozy. The resident Pyrs, Hela and Bear, provided great company as well. Night sky was beautiful. Great place to unwind for a bit.

    Site was super beautiful and David was very communicative and easy to work with. He let us switch sites last minute because of flooding and that was very appreciated. The site is gorgeous and feels very private. The directions are very clear to follow, however I wouldn’t recommend going with 2wd. Overall a great experience.

    I camped in a small Sylvan sport go in the field next to the river. It was perfect. I used the fire pit and firewood that was provided. The composting toilet was clean and easy to use Dave was an excellent host.

    Due to poor planning on my part, I wasn't able to stay, as planned. However, Daniel went out of his way to help with a full refund and even reached out afterwards to make sure I had made it somewhere safe for the night. A class act of a host.

    Stayed at bloodroot basecamp site. The tent was spacious with a Queensland memory foam bed on a platform (not just an air mattress on the floor). There's a cute little wood burning stove that really warms up the space on a cold night. The site is right next to a little creek. The land is beautiful. The neighbor dogs got a little loud, but it wasn't ridiculous.

    PawPaw Point was the perfect site for me and my dog, Harley. I would definitely stay at this site again. I recommend bringing a wagon to bring in your gear. Parking is a very short walk from the site. Yes, there is a train nearby but the sound rolls off the mountain. It's quite therapeutic. The parking area is the best place to view a beautiful mountain sunset. PawPaw Point has great access to the water. Be prepared to see and hear your neighbors from the fellow campsites. If you're looking for complete privacy, this isn't the site for you. Firewood was provided which was so helpful. Overall, I 100% recommend David's hipcamp.

    This was the second time me and my boyfriend have stayed at this Hipcamp. The property is just as shockingly beautiful the second time as it was the first time. Cohosh Cove is nice and private. We had a great time, and plan to return again.

    I enjoyed camping solo at the Paw Paw Point site in late July. I loved the location on the bank of the North Fork of the Roanoke River. I also liked hearing the occasional train going through the valley -- reminded me of my childhood. It was warm out, but the site is shaded and there was a nice breeze. The camp site is a two minute walk from where you park, so folks should give some thought to what they pack to carry to the site. The other sites were unoccupied during my stay, so it was totally private. The yurt site is close to Paw Paw Point. If privacy is your priority, choose the other site. If less gear hauling is your priority, choose Paw Paw Point. There was plenty of firewood provided by David. The outhouse is rustic but fine and TP was provided. I did not meet David, but he was always responsive when I texted. I would definitely stay here again!

    Overall, the experience was pretty good. It has tons of provided amenities! Free firewood, an outhouse (that was actually super clean), fire pit, and a picnic table. The river next to the campsite only went about shin deep, so there was no immediate swimming available. Although, it was the perfect depth for my dog to run around in and cool off. I'm sure there may be deeper sections, but we didn't explore far past the campsites. The biggest downside for me was the amount of noise, sadly. I did not get good sleep, and we actually left while it was still dark because I was wide awake at that point. Between the airplanes, train, and hunting dogs barking all night, I just could not stay asleep. One last thing, if you drive a sedan, this property may not be the best idea lol. The drive down to the campsites is gravel and a little rough at some points. Overall, the campsite is pretty awesome, and I'm sure it would have been cooler if we stayed longer than a day and explored it more. David was readily available and checked in on us. The site would have been perfect if it wasn't so noisy.
