Great quiet property close to town. Would definitely go back if passing through or staying a couple of days.

Bob’s place is a hidden gem just outside Charlottesville. I was in town with my girlfriend to see The Head and the Heart play at the Jefferson Theater. We needed a place to stay that was near town and able to accommodate us with a tent and a car that wasn't going to cost as much as a hotel. We stayed on a beautiful horse farm. We felt like we were out in the woods, far from the city, even though we were only about ten minutes from downtown. Can't recommend this place enough!

Magical forest retreat near town

Our stay at the farm was FANTASTIC! We decided on spot #6 and couldn't have been happier with it. Nice and secluded, down a little hill/clearing, with woods surrounding, it felt like we were in our own little magical forest retreat. It's amazing how quiet it is considering how close in location from Charlottesville. There is plenty of downed wood to forage, a big fire pit, and plenty of room for tents. Also, we received plenty of hospitality from the hosts! Bob came out to greet us when we went up to the house for showers, and his family (including sweet doggos) is just so nice. Conserning the campsite itself, it is pristinely cared for. Even though it's down a slight slope of grass, we had no trouble getting in and out with our old fwd Kia Soul. That is, however, until it rained the last night for 10 hours. Getting out with the ground so soggy was a little tough, so I would recommend parking at the top of the hill if you expect storms and have a 2wd. It's only a short stroll to the campsite from there anyway, so it's a non issue. All in all we adored camping there and will certainly be back in the future!

Dog attack and severe bite

Site 2 - Base of dam tent site

I experienced a horrible and traumatic attack on my dog by the owner’s German Shepherd dog. While walking with my dog on a leash to the bathroom, the dog ran out of the house and immediately attacked my dog with his jaws around my dog‘s neck, and this dog had clear intent to kill my dog. While trying to loosen the jaws of the German Shepherd from around my dog‘s neck, the dog bit me deeply causing multiple lacerations, and I had to get seven stitches, and it was a very serious and painful injury. I had to spend all day in the urgent care and the vet. I’m still very worried about my dog and I am in a lot of pain. The owner‘s response tells me that he does not take this sort of thing seriously, he did not apologize, in fact he didn’t respond at all. I read a review that somebody else’s dog was attacked by the owner’s German Shepherd and they tried to reach out to the owner and he did not respond. Be very careful with your dogs around this German Shepherd. I’m posting this so that no other dogs get injured or killed by this dog. I made a report to animal control and they said there has been two other reports of this aggressive dog so it does not seem like the owner is taking this seriously. It is a very dangerous situation and it turned my camping trip into a traumatizing nightmare. I don’t want this to happen to anyone else.

Well first off that’s my site now when I come there just kidding. It is peaceful beautiful and a great time. Fishing was good very clean bath house I just loved it. Will be back again.

Camping with Kids

Bob's campsite was great! Unlike many traditional campsites, even when the grounds were full, we had a ton of privacy and plenty of room to spread out. The farm was a huge hit with the kids, especially the canoes on the pond. Bob was a great host. From checking in to make sure we were comfortable, to showing the kids a new baby foal, to jumping our car when it died the day we left. We loved site 3. The views were incredible, we had space to spread out, the walk to the house was not far, and we had privacy. It was the perfect spot. I highly recommend trying out Bob's property!

Site 2 - Base of dam tent site

What a perfect location and easy camping spot! We were at spot #5. The farm is so beautiful! Each site is private and allows you to soak up the mountain views and peaceful horse farm. It was so nice having access to a shower and bathroom too! Our kids loved the pond with the kayaks! Highly recommend!

An experience above all others

What a great experience for my first time using HipCamp. The property was gorgeous and the animals are amazing. Especially the donkeys. The hosts of the property couldn't have been more accommodating. I left my tent windows open, called Bob and he went and zipped them up for me. Great people. Thanks again, see you next year. Maybe sooner.

My first time in Charlottesville

Absolutely wonderful scenic views and it's nice to see all the show horses while walking to the shower and toilet. Once I found my campsite and got settled in at site 3 (I was conveniently upgraded from site 6 which is for tents since I was the only one) it was really accommodating and everyone was so nice. I spoke to Wendy who was feeding the horses. I took my girlfriend out on the canoe and we just talked it was really pleasant. There's a nice little overlook at the pond to climb up and just have a conversation. Honestly felt like something out of a book and will definitely come back.

Beautiful property with private camp spots and incredible views, so close to Charlottesville. We saw the one other camper, but our site (#5) was quite set back and secluded, which we loved. The host was super responsive and helpful. We will definitely stay there again.

Such a peaceful stay at Bob’s farm! We enjoyed the privacy of our campsite as well as the proximity to town, being 10 min from Costco and Trader Joe’s was a huge plus. The horses and donkeys were all so cute to observe in the quiet surroundings. We would love to stay here again!

Best Campsite Ever

Absolutely amazing campground! Our group came down from JMU and had the most incredible experience at the campground. The horses provides endless entertainment and the pond had all the activities our group could imagine having fun with. Immense gratitude toward Bob for maintaining such a beautiful property!

Early January Camping

This campsite's location is great if you need a place to stay near the city. The campsite itself was spacious and relatively quiet. Unfortunately, one of the days was very rainy-- our tent flooded and we found it difficult leaving the muddy driveway. All in all, would use again, as long as, there is no precipitation in the forecast.

Wonderful host

Bob was such a wonderful and gracious host. I lost one of my beagles, and he helped me get the word out quickly, online. Thankfully we found her, none the worse for the wear! In fact I think she had a great time. The camp sites are well laid out and I think this would be a great place for a group.
