This is the site of a decommissioned Atlas F Missile Silo which was abandoned by the Air Force in the 60's.   You can book separate from camping a historical tour of the Missile Base property and the underground Launch Control Center with a tunnel that leads to the 176 ft. deep Missile Silo.(This is a construction zone, as the bunker is being renovated into an underground home. Be prepared to sign liability waivers.) Located in the Smoky Hills of Kansas, you will be camping in beautiful fields with great views of a 250 MW windfarm. Hike over a mile of trails on the property and pick out your own camp spot. Join other guests at the top of the Missile Silo for a campfire at night and enjoy stargazing. Just mins away from the local tavern and restaurants in Wilson & a Brewery in the small town of Sylvan Grove. Nearby is Lake Wilson, one of the largest and cleanest lakes in the State, there are water sports and Epic rated mountain biking trails.

I absolutely loved Atlas Ad Astra Adventure Resort. My cozy self-contained trailer was comfortable and private, the grounds were fun to explore, and the night skies are incredible for stargazing. The highlight was Michael’s Atlas F Missile Base tour — he gave a detailed, engaging explanation of the base’s original use, its systems, and his exciting plans to develop it as a space-habitat research facility. Facilities are basic (primitive restroom), but the experience and hospitality more than make up for it. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing stay at Atlas Ad Astra’s Missile Silo! The property is truly a special place—peaceful, beautiful, and unlike anywhere else we’ve visited. We loved exploring the trails around the property and learning about the fascinating history during the silo tour. The space is incredibly dog-friendly, which made it easy for our whole family, including our four-legged companion, to enjoy the experience together. One of our favorite parts was spending the evenings around the fire, taking in the quiet surroundings and beautiful scenery. Whether you’re interested in history, nature, or simply looking for a unique getaway, this place offers all three. The combination of adventure, beauty, and relaxation made for an unforgettable stay. We highly recommend Atlas Ad Astra’s Missile Silo and would love to return someday!

This was a good location not too far off of I-70 and I really wish I could have taken the tour. I may do it next time through. Matt was there to guide me in even though I was fixated on his dog. Great northern exposure for Starlink users. Great sun exposure for solar panels. Merlin app users there is good birding here as well. I actually picked up a ringnecked pheasant. A rarity for an Ohioan. Matt has more plans for this location and I can’t wait to see it!

Loved the tour of the silo - fascinating - and Matt has created a beautiful living space inside! I camped in my car in a private corner behind some trees, but there were also many RVs (nice people!) and some other tent campers who showed up later, so it has a campground feel. The bright green and orange lights used around the picnic area that were left on all night, so was glad I was in my car and not a tent. But beautiful spot otherwise.

Exceeded expectations! The camping here is dreamy with vast Kansan big sky views! Stars, quiet, sunset, and sunrise. And the birds! The morning song is so lovely. The silo is something to see! Matthew is a kind and knowledgeable host; I highly recommend the tour. Learning the history and then peeking into the past definitely scratched my ‘War Games’ memories. Then seeing his work making a gorgeous space inside has put a Silo Stay on my bucket list!

This was even cooler than I expected and a highlight of my road trip from Portland, OR to St. Louis and back. This was a beautiful spot to park my new teardrop trailer for a night, and I loved listening to Meadowlarks and watching a distant lightning storm, but the tour was fantastic. It was interesting to learn about the Atlas program and see the missile silo, but I was inspired by the sustainability project Matthew is getting started. I'm so glad I stayed here, and I hope I can make it back again in the future.

Such a clean and well maintained property with beautiful views in all directions. Tent sites are tucked into the trees to protect from the Kansas wind and provide some privacy. The tour of the silo is fascinating and Matthew makes the experience educational as well as entertaining. Dozer the dog is friendly and chill but not overbearing. Would definitely recommend!

We loved staying here! Matthew and Dozer were great and so welcoming. It was so refreshing to meet someone with so much passion for what he does. The camp site was great, private but close enough to the amenities. We would 100% stay here again in the future to see the progress with the site. We spend 2 night, and both days spent some time at the Wilson lake which was only about 15 min away.

This is a unique option for primitive camping. Matthew the host was welcoming and a great tour guide of the missile silo. The location is awesome for stargazing! Highly recommend you give this site a try if you're traveling through Kansas!

Amazing. Matt was the bomb. So smart, so intelligent, so motivated about his project— his vision and the work he has done is a miricle. The tour is a must. Treat yourself and stay here. After the tour and as campers settled in Matt build a huge fire pit fire. He joined the campers for fabulous conversation and more info about his project.

This was a great spot for a night of camping along my cross country road trip! Matt was a great host and I even did the tour of the silo in the morning. It was such a unique experience and I would highly recommend for anyone in the area to stop for a night or even just the tour!

Matthew and his dog Dozer were very welcoming to us. He gave us a tour of the campsite and the place was amazing! He keeps up the property and is refurbishing the military structures. He built a fire and created a way for us to meet our neighbors. Best camping ever!

Beautiful land with jaw-dropping view of the night sky. And, as a child in the 80s, experiencing a symbol of war being transformed into a site of beauty was heartening. Matthew was communicative and helpful in getting me and my old puppy settled into a safe space. In addition to the silo tour, there are trails on the land and even a few baby bunnies.

Nice place! Plenty of room to park. Easy to get to. Nice views from the hilltop. We did not take part in the tour but heard from neighbor campers that it was interesting and cool.
