Our first introduction to the wine and vineyard industry came when a now fellow colleague greeted us wearing a t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops. Thoroughly enjoying the idea of wearing this “work suit” every day, High Lonesome Vineyard went from a concept to reality.  Located only 20 miles east of Tombstone, Arizona and 8 miles southwest of Elfrida, Arizona, High Lonesome Vineyard consists of approximately 36 acres of rich sandy loam in a fertile valley surrounded by mountains on all directions. And at an elevation of about 4,300 feet, the area experiences a four-season climate with summer temperatures seldom exceeding 100 degrees.  Hikers, bird watchers and nature loving folks come to this area every year just for the warm summer breezes and clear night skies. This area also boasts of spectacular views of the early morning rising sun and incredible sunsets.   Come enjoy rustic camping here in the Vineyard Hipcamp area and experience the awesomeness that southeastern Arizona has to offer. Learn more about this land: Come camp next to a working vineyard with exceptional views of the desert sky.  You pick your spot as long as it is not directly in the vineyard, and enjoy the peaceful and tranquil sounds of the desert wildlife.  High Lonesome Vineyard is located about 20 miles southeast of Tombstone, Arizona and 8 miles west of Elfrida, Arizona. You can easily commute to Tombstone to see the legends of the old west or drive on over to Elfrida/Gleeson area and see the old mining ghost towns. If active mining is your thing, visit Bisbee which is only 25 minutes away.  Also, with a working cattle ranch nearby, take the opportunity to visit and see the daily workings of one of southeast Arizona's biggest ranches. A visit to the ranch is for a nominal fee and subject to availability. Wine tastings are also available for a small fee in addition to the camping fee. We have 6 German Shepherds that do what they do as guard dogs, bark when alerted. We take extra steps to keep the dogs quite for you at night during your stay, but its a high probability they will bark at you.

High Lonesome Vineyard Experience
Let me sing the praises of High Lonesome Vineyard! Fabulous selection of wines. Both reds and whites. All grapes grown on site. We started with a wine tasting even before setting up camp. The casual atmosphere (and wine!) help us relax after a day on the road. Beautiful scenery. You are surrounded by mountain ranges of varying topography that enhance the stunning sunrises and sunsets. Cleanest port-a-potties I’ve ever seen. Easy camp set up. No matter if you are tent, car or even the largest RV set up, the grounds can easily accommodate you. Tom and Edie are the most gracious hosts and just darn good human beings. Their extensive knowledge of the area added to our adventure. And when I had a suspension malfunction on my rig,,Tom helped with tools and muscle to get me back on the road. We can’t thank Tom and Edie enough for all they did to make our trip memorable. WE WILL BE BACK!

Beautiful Setting. Amazing Wine.
Tom and his wife Edie were the perfect hosts. I have been travelling around America and this is 100% my favourite place thus far. I messaged Tom on the day of to see if he had any room, he replied within minutes and when we arrived they were ready with everything. We had an amazing wine tasting watching the sunset. I would come back here for the wine alone. These guys are in the top 10 vineyards in the state! We all shared drinks and stories then we went to bed under the stars in the peace and tranquility of the Arizona countryside. Tom and Edie are wonderful and knowledgeable hosts and WHEN I come back to this area I won’t stay anywhere else.

Amazing night sky
Very enjoyable stay! Friendly and low keyed hosts, offering just the right amount of attention. Lovely shaded patio to enjoy the wine tasting—and they also offer a cheese board. We enjoyed the wines and bought a bottle (the souvenir glass is really charming). I liked that I could bring my little dog along. Plenty of space for camping. And oh my! The night stars were amazing!

Beautiful camping, tasty wine
The combination of a camping spot surrounded by mountains and a winery makes for a great Hipcamp experience! The wine is delicious, as well as their smoked cheeses. The large open space for camping was very peaceful. Thomas and his wife are amazing hosts. Thank you!

Camping and wine - sign me up
Wine tasting and camping. It was an amazing accomplishment to complete our tent site preparation *after* tasting their wine! 4 bottles were purchased for enjoying at home. They are both military veterans - and so are we - so there was some interesting discussions at the wine tasting. The lot is clean and ready for a major party of some kind. We settled into our longe chairs on one morning and watched some large birds (guessing = hawks) circling overhead. Best “fly by” / air show we have seen in a while. Recommended and ready for a repeat visit.

Great Stay with Awesome Hosts
We enjoyed a great stay stay at High Lonesome Vineyards in McNeal, AZ. Our Host Edie, greeted us upon arrival and directed us to our site. She also provided suggestions on area attractions and restaurants. The best part of the stay was to learn the story of their dream as Edie and her husband Tom, bought the bare land and turned it into a working vineyard. It was a dream that was made with the will to succeed and some really hard work. We attended a wine tasting and purchased a couple of bottles of their finished product which outstanding! This was our first HipCamp booking and we were thankful to have such great hosts. We look forward to future Hipcamp bookings with hopes of positive outcomes based on our stay at the Vineyard Hipcamp.

A perfect example of a quality site
The vineyard, tasting area with a fire, and camping area were better than I anticipated. T&E, the hosts, were available and friendly. The scenery in the area is breathtaking... it could not have been better. Better than advertised. The dogs were there, but never annoying or overly noisy. There will be a next time for us here.

Beautiful, quiet, and clean!
The host and site were awesome! The land is clean and there's plenty of room. The hosts run a vineyard and have wine tasting on site. Although we don't drink, we picked up a bottle of their award-winning wine as a Christmas gift. Bonus: the site is about 35 minutes from Tombstone, an awesome day trip to check out.

Beautiful and friendly place
Beautiful spot and easy place to find. The host was very friendly! One item that may not appeal to everyone is that there are a few dogs that live on the property. They are fenced but do like to bark at anyone they see.

Stars Galore at Old Lonesome
The stars are incredible from this open field. Lots of space to setup camp, easy access. If you're inclined, there is wine tasting available on a beautiful patio. Tom and Edie were easy to communicate with. There are dogs, if you're walking near the house, you'll disturb them, they're just doing their job. Once camp settled down, we never heard a peep out of them. Would definitely recommend!

Amazing wines and lots of stars
The hosts communicated really well with us, the wine slushies were AMAZING on a hot day, the hosts let us have our privacy but were always available if we needed anything. When we arrived we got to see a coyote walking by (highlight of the trip, really) and when we wanted to take pictures of the Milky Way without lights from their house between the campsite and the Milky Way, they let us into the vineyard at night to take pictures as long as we were really careful. Overall, they were friendly, the port-o-johns were clean and we had a great time! (Must be OK with big dogs barking at you when you go to the bathroom in the night. It wasn't a problem for us though, as we're not really light sleepers)

Great People, Atmosphere, and Wine!
I came with a friend to try out "van life" over night in a sprinter van and this was a great spot! The Host's were so welcoming. We came at the tail end of an event at the Vinyard and they were very kind. Great wine too. Plenty of space on the property. Thank you again!!

Stargazing and Wine!!
This was our first hipcamp experience, and our first time RVing (we rented a class C), and our first time dry camping-so we had a lot going on!! From the second we booked with these hosts I felt like we made the right decision! Our host texted me almost immediately, answered my questions and made sure we knew where to go; Tom reached out to us numerous times before the stay and when we were en route, and the directions on the hipcamp site are perfect. We arrived early afternoon, had our choice of spots in their large mowed desert lawn area, and were in the wine testing room within 45m of arrival. Edie is the head winemaker, and Tom’s wife, and their story of how they are both veterans, how they decided to buy land and go into wine making, and how she has taught herself the process is amazing. The wine tasting area is super comfy, the wine is great-we bought a case, and there is a very clean port-a-potty available for use during the stay. We have Verizon and never had any trouble connecting to service, and were able to stream music in the RV just fine. We went in September-so still quite hot during the day, but once the sun went down it was perfect, and the star gazing is unbelievable-I highly recommend downloading the Night Sky app so you know what you are looking at. Lots of peace and quiet and great hosts and great wine-what more do you need?!

This was a great experience! When I got there the hosts were very helpful and welcoming. I did a wine tasting with Edie which was delicious and informative. There have a huge yard that I drove out in and choose any spot I wanted. Beautiful views all around and quiet. I would recommend to other travelers.

We loved our stay out at High Lonesome Vineyard! The area is absolutely stunning, and the surrounding mountain ranges are beautiful and provide the most spectacular sunsets. We loved exploring the vineyard and seeing all the gorgeous vines. Our hosts were fantastic; they were so accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. There are plenty of wide open pull through spots for RVs of all size. We loved getting to play with the puppies that were about 12 weeks old when we got there. The tasting room is a beautiful open-air area with a fire pit and great tables for hanging out. This is the perfect place for wine lovers!

Quiet, beautiful, good views
Southwest Vineyards is a beautiful place off the beaten path. i was the only customer and got the full attention of the hostess, Edie. We had some very good conversations about grape-growing, wine making, and dog training. She sat and talked with me the whole time. She gave me a tour of the winery and explained many aspects of wine-making. Edie and her husband do a great job of taking care of their property. They grow their grapes sustainably. The fruits are not sprayed with any chemicals. My visit was a good experience

Best rest in the (South)West!
Tom and Eedie (sorry about the spelling 🤷🏽‍♀️) set a high standard as my first Hipcamp hosts! Tom was in touch from the day I made my reservation to answer any questions - which was great bc I was driving down from Canada on an extended roadtrip. He was cool with my bringing two dogs too! They were flexible and understanding when I couldn't get there for the first night of my reserved stay. Tom stayed in touch and we sorted out my arrival the day of...very impressive considering both himself and Eedie were up all night harvesting grapes! Upon my arrival (you can trust the Google Maps directions, despite the Hipcamp warning), both Tom and Eedie came out to greet me and direct me towards the amenities (a super duper clean portable toilet). They also offered a wine tasting in their outdoor tasting room, even thought it was close to 9 pm. Eedie walked me through their awesome varietals, from a PicPoul Blanc to their Mourvedre (4 wines currently available), explaining the clone history, the tasting notes, etc... everything in the dark, illuminated by a headlamp! They were all fabulous, with the Lemberger standing out as most unique (a dark rose or a light red as it was described to me), and the Tannat being Eedie's and now my favourite! I stayed on the last night of this season's harvest and they were working hard (they told me the next day that they finished at 3 AM). I fell asleep to the sound of their generator without issue and was rewarded early the next day by the sunrise over the Mule (I think?) Mountains! I'd highly recommend a stay at this Hipcamp or a visit to the High Lonesome Vineyard if you're in the area. You'll be greeted by gracious hosts with intetesting stories and the best local Arizona wine I've tasted to date!
