Get out of town for a unique stay in The Yurt at Calypso Farm & Ecology Center! Nestled in the boreal forest, Calypso is a non-profit, educational farm located in the hills of Easter, just 10 miles outside of Fairbanks. The Yurt is simple, cozy and a bit rustic (no running water) - perfect for travelers looking for a one of a kind Alaskan experience or locals looking for a fun "glamping" experience at the farm! From May through September, there are many people living and working on the farm, as well as visitors. The yurt is secluded away from where most of these things take place, however, you may hear activities going on and, if you take a walk around you, will likely come across other people. Feel free to say hi and chat with folks! In addition to being a working farm, Calypso host a variety of education programs and events for all ages. All rental proceeds directly support Calypso's education programs and initiatives to share fresh food in the Fairbanks community! Thank you for your interest and involvement in the work that we do!Here's what the Yurt (24' diameter) does and does not have: – Electricity? Yes! – Running water? NO – An outhouse? Yes! – A shower? NO – Heat? Yes! – Air conditioning? NO – Wifi? NO – Cell phone signal? Probably (see more below) Guests will have the entire yurt to themselves, as well as their own private outhouse. It comfortably sleeps 2 in the queen-sized bed but could sleep up to 4 with the small futon (4 adults may not sleep comfortably but 2 adults and 2 children could). Guests are welcome and encouraged to explore the farm! Walk around, visit the animals and walk through the garden. A self-guided tour pamphlet will be available in your welcome packet when you arrive to help you navigate the property. Other Important Details: 1. WATER: This is a DRY yurt (no running water, no indoor bathroom). This is very common in Alaska. Guests will have access to their own private outhouse and plenty of potable water will be provided for drinking, washing dishes, washing hands, etc. 2. NO SHOWER: There are no shower/bath facilities for this rental. We will, however, provide bath towels if you'd like to use the public shower facilities in Fairbanks. 3. CELL SERVICE: AT&T is the main cell service that gets very reliable signal on the farm. Verizon also usually works but other providers (such as T-Mobile, Sprint, GCI, etc.) may or may not have service. The yurt does NOT have Wi-Fi. 4. ACCESSIBILITY: The farm is built on a hillside and it is a short uphill walk through the forest to get to the yurt from the parking area. If you have any accessibility concerns, please contact us before booking. 5. ANIMALS: There is one friendly dog that lives on the farm that you may see, though she doesn’t usually come down to the yurt. We also have a flock of Shetland sheep, goats, fiber rabbits and chickens. You are welcome to say hi to them through the fence or in the barn, but please do not enter their enclosure. 6. MIDNIGHT SUN: During much of the summer the sun does not dip below the horizon, resulting in nearly 24-hours of daylight. The yurt has a lovely skylight that cannot be covered and therefore it does not get fully dark in there at night - we recommend bringing an eye mask to sleep.
