Pinochle Trail goes north into the backcountry for around 12 miles and joins other trails.
Pinochle trail is a section of the ancient Knik - Nelchina Trail used by natives, trappers, miners and hunters for eons. It traverses the natural route from the Matanuska Valley up and over the mountain range into Copper River country.
Hicks was one of the early guides who had a cabin at Hicks Creek and served with U.S. Army Lieutenant Joseph Castner to brushwack a trail northwest for Captain Glenn in 1898. Described in his journal as at "Tale of Hardship and Suffering" they ended up eating their mules and shoes before reaching their goal far to the north. Today we use these trails with relative ease compared to the old timers but the scenery and mud holes remind us of what they went through.

Seaside Farm is a 30 acre, magical, park like farm on the shores of Kachemak Bay, just outside of Homer, a few miles down from the Kilcher Homestead where I grew up in the 1940's! . Now a song bird sanctuary, with trails, lawns, gardens, trees, hay fields, and a private beach, cabins, a clover camping meadow, Seaside was once part of an original Alaska pioneer homestead.
It is also the home of hundreds of songbirds, moose, coyotes, wild hares, flocks of sandhill cranes, two sweet Morgan Horses, an assortment of chickens and visitors seeking peace, nature, wildlife, pristine beaches, in a real Alaska, non touristy setting.
This property has three different types accommodations: Rustic, cozy cabins, a big field for tent campers, and a few spaces reserved for 4 wheel drive vans, and small vehicle camping, including rooftop tents
If you prefer camping away from the tourist crowds, you will find our soft clover meadows and well kept lawns, a deluxe and memorable experience. The beach is a short walk down the trail, where its peaceful and private, with only the sound of the seagulls and waves. Van campers have a few special areas to park their vehicles, with views of the glaciers and mountains. There is limited parking and turnaround space, and we like our farm not too crowded, to provide a special rural experience to all who visit. It helps to call or text before you arrive to make sure we are on site and can help you with parking!
There are three cabins sprinkled throughout the property. Two are off grid, close to the beach, private and magical, with wood stoves. All cabins are able to use the main farm lodge amenities, just a few minutes walk away but have their own outhouses, all with amazing views!
You can walk on the beach from the main lodge parking area, there is a covered camping pavilion available to all guests, a communal campfire spot and bbq grill, lovely maintained walking trails and meadows, and even wifi!
We allow most dogs, but ask you to contact us before booking with us, so we can let you know our rules before you travel. All dogs must be well behaved, social, on leashes and at owner's side at all times to protect our trusting wildlife from accidental harm, like our baby pheasants, moose, bunnies, and songbird nests!

Situated on 15 acres, our property offers kayak use included in stay, outdoor showers, outhouse restroom, scenic cross-country walking paths, and an optional propane fire pit tank to add on to your reservation.
With 8 electric RV pads and 3 dry RV pads complemented by picnic tables, you can enjoy the outdoors in comfort.
Additionally, there's a grocery store, Subway, coffee shop, and gas station within walking distance, ensuring convenience and variety during your stay. You must be able to open and close a gate to enter or exit the property.

They homestead this area before there were roads, and could only travel to this location via the beach and climbing the bluff.My mothers family also Homestead on the Kenai, in Ninilchik, she was born and grew up there in the small river village. When her and my dad married they continued the Jones family tradition of ranching and farming. We decided to offer our family land and share its beauty with others. Good to Know:
You may occasionally see floaters passing by on the Little Su — it’s a popular float route. If you're planning to float yourself, you can drop off an extra vehicle at the Parks Highway bridge where it crosses the Little Susitna River near the confluence.

• Bear Paw Lake (1 mile away) is non-motorized and perfect for paddle boards, kayaks, or relaxing on a raft.
• Prator Lake (2 miles away) is motorized and great for smaller boats or jet skis.

Half of the property is an adult glamping experience. Half of the property allows children, as long as you understand that we are located right on the river and children should be supervised.
Our property is the perfect basecamp with easy access to hiking for all abilities; Bodenburg Butte, Lazy Mountain, Pioneer Peek and Pioneer Falls. Located right on the Knik River we can help you plan a day of fishing, kayaking or riverboat touring. Other local activities include ATV rentals, glacier helicopter tours, exploring the town of Palmer, the Alaska State Fair, a trip to the Reindeer Farm, Independence Mine State Historical Park, the Musk Ox Farm, horseback riding, touring our breweries, enjoying the local golf course, sled dog tours and so much more!
Although we love pets, in order to keep tents clean and odor fee, pets are not allowed without permission.

We absolutely love this place. Love the serenity and privacy. The host is top-notch and provides for every need. We are returning guests and this is by far our favorite place to camp. I hope future guests will respect the land and be good stewards, pick up your trash, pick up after your pets, leave it as clean or cleaner than you found it. This was an excellent camp site! Even though we had folks on both sides, it felt private because of all the trees and bushes. Bathrooms were clean and accessible, nearby water spout, and the grounds were beautiful to walk through. We even had our very people-shy dog with us without incident because it felt so secluded. Great tent spot with a firepit and picnic table. 10/10 would recommend!

I visit this campground at least once per year. The owners have made some thoughtful changes and upgrades since I last camped there. There were more visitors this time than I have seen in the past, but the sites are laid out in a way that allows for privacy and pretending that we have the astounding view all to ourselves. The view of Matanuska Glacier from the campsite is incredible. Hosts are responsive, easygoing and seem to have thought of everything. And as always, this campground has the best outhouses in Alaska.
