Big Cove Santuary in North Carolina
Host John Mattox says:
Secluded and wild, but close to Asheville! A 15 minute drive to West Asheville, 20 minutes to downtown Asheville. Lots to see and do in the Asheville area.
In addition to camping, the Big Cove Santuary comprises the Big Cove Resiliency Laboratory, and the Big Cove Rewilding Institute.
Numerous nature trails. There are wildlife observation opportunities, including abundant bird life. A spring feed bathing pond is on the property.
WiFi is available near basecamp.
This is a new Hipcamp listing, and some details are still being worked out.
There are two outdoor toilets:, a Porta John (that drops into a new septic tank that is waiting for plumbing), and a composting toilet (that smells better). There is an outdoor sink for guests, and there is an outdoor shower with heated water (on request - the water heater must be activated from within the hosts home).
One site provides for RVs and parking on site (and has a 120 V electrical outlet). Tent sites require carrying gear a short (or moderate) distance.
There are several sites with fire rings. Firewood is provided.
A washing machine is available (on request - it is within the hosts home).
There is not a clothes dryer - but line-drying is avaialble.The nearest neighbor's large (but friendly) dogs are occasionally on site.
