Welcome to Winter Willow Barn and Breakfast! Open mid-April through December 1st. Nestled in the heart of our family hobby farm, Winter Willow offers a cozy retreat with an optional home cooked breakfast. Wake to farm-fresh eggs, local breads, homemade jam and hot herbal tea. The property features wooded walking trails, swings, and a secluded fire pit for your enjoyment. Enjoy your stay in our private and spacious (30X40) two-level historic barn and loft. Accessible by a modern staircase, your loft retreat features a queen bed with premium bedding, a trundle with two twin beds, inviting sofa, a pellet stove and cozy blankets, recycled floors, an antique wash stand and basin complete with soap, refrigerator, coffee corner with coffee maker (filters) and coffees/teas, and a children's corner featuring books and toys. Full electric as well. Downstairs (not heated) features a small kitchen area with sink and propane stove/griddle and a bathroom area with a portable/flushing toilet. Plates, bowls and cutlery are provided along with cooking utensils and a handful of pots, pans, and bowls. Salt, sugar, and olive oil also provided. We provide filtered water and cream in the refrigerator upon your arrival, and for families with young children we have a gate to block the staircase and outlet caps for added security. Twelve chickens are a part of our family, and you are welcome to feed the chickens clover or fresh flowers, and help us plant flowers or pick apples depending on the season! We also have two farm dogs and two farm cats who might want to say hello.

The first time we viewed this property, we knew we were home. The woods, fields, wildlife, and house (created almost entirely from the lumber harvested from the land) drew us in. We purchased the home and 40 acres in 2018. Since then it has been a labor of love to make it everything we dream. A campground suitable for horseback riding was the goal for W15266. This was where the original homestead stood (firepit area). That home was transported across 95 on Davis road to become an Amish home. This area was overgrown and filled with rubbish, but still had a great deal of suitable plants hidden in the raspberries. We are continually working to groom it, and eventually, hope to better level the drive and sites and cover them with gravel. We need more and better fire pits and intend to have at least one more cabin- perhaps created from a refurbished corn crib? This cabin was refurbished in 2020 from the original homestead’s summer kitchen (where food was prepared to keep the house from getting too warm). Although it may have been easier to demolish and start over, Julie convinced Craig that the history was worth it. ;) I can’t tell you how disGUSTING it was, but we found treasures like the chair upstairs, the ironing board, and items on the walls and cupboards amongst the piles of Asian beetles and mouse chewings. Our current project you see in front is the bath/shower house. It has a toilet and shower and was completed 2021. With expansion, we will add one more toilet on the other side. The old shed in front, is a disaster. We fluctuate the same way we did with the summer kitchen: bulldoze or refurbish? It currently houses our equipment and lumber, but someday, we are hoping to have a small country Tiki bar. Craig has received the liquor license already. We love tucked away country bars with unique flavors, so we hope we can offer this to our customers. Jeske Equestrian is also a boarding/training facility. We built the horse barn in 2019, and last year we put up a 60x180 indoor riding arena. Maintaining and creating trails has been extensive. Keeping up on the signage and the trail map has been nearly impossible since Craig loves creating new ones with the skid steer on a regular basis! We are working on the pond area to be more recreational in our future as well. Thanks again for choosing us. We hope to see you again! Ultimate privacy with no other campers and not a house to be seen up and down the river. Our property lies on a quiet stretch of the Root River where you have private access for small hand-carried craft, or you are 5 minutes from a boat launch for flat bottom boats / kayaks and canoes (for longer trips from upriver or downriver). Inquire with owner for rules of the river, estimated trip times and more. Experience some amazing stargazing, while listening to the owls, coyotes or maybe you'll see or hear the Sandhill cranes nesting nearby. Fish to your heart's content for all types of trout, bass, panfish and rough fish - maybe the occasional walleye or sauger! All right from the bank, from your boat or while floating down the river. Soak up the sun while exploring the trails, creek and pond on the property, or cool off while floating down the Root River. The Root's sandy bottom is family friendly, with a generally shallow and straight path with a good current, making for an easy paddle downstream between landings. Please be cautious about dropoffs and tree snags (the current is deceptively strong!) - use river and stairs access at property at your own risk. River does rise and flood occasionally with storm runoff. This property is away from it all yet the convenience of being only 2.5 miles from Houston, with access to the local coffee shop Baristas, the Root River Market and the International Owl Center, plus the Root River bike trail system. The park with trail access also has a nice natural playground, Nature Center, picnic area and amphitheater with occasional music events. In addition, a beautiful 18-hole golf course, Valley High, is set in the bluffs of Southeast Minnesota- just 5 minutes away.

Located in a beautiful rural area. The bathroom building was great! We visited the Lake Wazee Recreation area and that was beautiful. The electric ped had 20/30/50. We didn’t have horses, so I’m sure that would made it even better. Very nice stay.

Nice, well-kept handful of sites. Fully functional bathroom is an added treat! Noise levels range from dead quiet, to trains, to roosters in the distance. None of the noises were persistent and the surrounding area is beautifully rural. Julie is friendly and communicative. A pleasant pit stop during a long trip!

We only stayed 1 night at the barn, but I wish we had been able to stay longer! Kim was so warm and welcoming and every amenity was provided, even things I never considered! The loft was full of books and vintage toys; my girls played for hours exploring and stretching their imaginations! I could not recommend this site enough!

We’re really happy we found Julie’s land! It’s perfect for what we need for a night’s stay. The area was clean and we enjoyed the nature around us (as we’re the only one camping that night 😉). The electric hookup was so appreciated as we were able to use our air conditioning in this summer heat. The biggest surprise and very much appreciated was a really nice camping bathroom with shower & flush toilet. We will surely come back here should we be in this area in the future. Thank you Julie!

I’d advise anyone looking at this Hipcamp to book it; you’ll be in for a real treat. The farm dogs are loping, lumbering, and lovable. Such great personalities. My little girl had such fun playing with them, feeding the chickens, and exploring the tulips. Kim and David went above and beyond to make us comfortable and delight us. We will absolutely be back.

Kim and David's lofted barn was the perfect winter hideaway. They put so much effort into their property and the barn, and it shows--the loft is incredibly comfortable, even at freezing temps. We stayed five nights, and got to see some fantastic winter mists, beautiful sunsets, and STARS. So many stars! Kim makes a phenomenal breakfast, so do yourself a favor and take advantage of that during your stay. The amenities are great--camp stove, sink, and camp toilet located on the lower floor of the barn. Eau Claire is a short drive away, with tons of beautiful trails and walking paths. Thanks again Kim, David, Izzy and Lula! We loved staying with you!
