Experience upscale camping–Glamping in the Forested Hills of Lake Superior. Sailor Springs is a small three-site campground located just two miles outside of the picturesque tourist town of Bayfield, WI. 2023 will be our first year of operation and we’re excited to host campers on the property and provide a unique camping experience.
The campground is spread out over 5 acres of forest that you’ll hike into from Bresette Hill Road. After parking at the trailhead, you’ll gather your bags and hike into your glamping site. The trail winds through the woods, leading you first to a valley where the seasonal Clark Creek runs through in the spring. The first two campsites are on the other side of this valley. The trail can be steep in spots and requires a moderate level of fitness and mobility to reach the secluded campsites. The third site is a bit farther into the forest, the little A-frame cabin, Anchor sits on the edge of the spring-fed Brickyard Creek that flows year-round.
We have many plans for the property and depending on when you stay, the campground will be in various stages of development. The campsites, trailhead / parking area, and trails are scheduled to be completed in early spring. We hope to add amenities such as a camp sauna and screened-in gazebo later in the 2024 summer / fall. Abe offered the A frame cabin and I decided to take it due to him stating it would be warmer. Everything was great. Nice warm cabin, beautiful scenery, a trickling creek, and a nice little hike to the site. I will be coming back.

I really enjoyed this campsite, it has truly breathtaking views of the lake and you can’t beat a beach fire! It was very peaceful, even with the other cabins being occupied. We ended up arriving later than planned so it was dark, and still the maps, signs, and trails were very easy to follow. The lodge with the showers and sauna is a HUGE bonus. The cabin and outhouse were very well maintained and very clean, my entire group commented their enthusiasm on that. Overall a great spot and I can’t wait to plan another trip back!

If you are looking for privacy, this site is IT! The campsite is essentially at the very end of one of the many paths on the property. Some parts of the path are harder to navigate if you are using any of the carts provided to haul your gear. There are a few spots with large roots that make it a challenge. However, there’s a stunning overlook shortly before the campsite where we watched the sunset over Lake Superior. The sound of the waves were so peaceful to fall asleep to. It was easily accommodated to our dog as well, he had a great time on his first camping trip! We greatly enjoyed celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary here.

Balsam site is a little bit of a hike. It was worth it for us to be right by Lake Superior and the beach. Having the main lodge available to you with hot showers and flush toilets is very nice. Site was really nice. We got our 6p north face down nice and level. It felt really private and the only vehicles we heard at night was planes.
Had a really good time and will go back. Only thing that would have made it better would have been a pit bathroom at the site or closer.

This place is just spectacular. It was our second time and we enjoyed it even more this time around! I love how secluded and alone we felt the whole time, having that big beach to ourselves was incredible. Nothing beats having a fire on the shore of Lake Superior with a killer sunset in the background. Can't thank you all enough! See you next time.

1 night at Northern Lights Cabin
Absolutely loved the space. Tucked away and got a good taste of what life (almost off grid) was like. The outdoor shower was a fun and the night sky was beautiful as we sat around the fire. There’s a boat and kayak at the end of the trail to take out on the little lake nearby. Close to so much but far enough where it was peaceful.

We loved this site. We read the reviews and knew to expect some mosquitos. When we got there, we ran out of bug spray almost immediately (our fault) and so I called the number and got some help right away. They had a bin of used bug sprays that we were able to grab from (so handy!).
The walk to the lake was a bit further than expected but not terrible. The beach itself was very cool-lots of driftwood and soft sand mixed with rocky patches. The lake was not clear like I expected but that's because it was shallow and safe for my kids and the sand was getting mixed up into the water with the small waves. Definitely prefer safe over clear. As from other reviews, we didn't touch the outhouse and chose to do the 5 minute short walk to the lodge where the bathrooms were clean and comfortable. We had a great experience!

Beautiful and nostalgic stay at Camp Amnicon. The campsites are a bit of a walk in, but it's worth it for the seclusion and peace. The lakeshore is lovely (walk to the west to find some red clay!) and the camp itself had everything we needed. Excellent retreat not too far from the cities.

Very awesome camping area. The bathrooms and showers were very clean and nice. The campsites themselves are huge and well kept. The outhouse at the campsite is very nice and cleanly and felt comfortable using it! Well worth the trip beautiful views at the lake superior beach definitely recommend this camp ground

I loved camping in the Balsam camp site, it is right on the lake trail and far from people as well. At night you can hear the waves from the shoreline and we had no frights of bears or porcupines. The walk in is about half a mile so be prepared for a little trek with all your gear. This campsite had no bear box so we had to hang up our food in the tree overnights. Amazing star gazing on the shore. The showers were clean, the bathrooms were clean, it was an overall great experience :) Will be coming back!
