Nestled on a private 65-acre farm in the Alleghany Highlands of Virginia, Beaverdam Falls is located on VA SR-311 (Kanawha Trail) in the Sweet Springs Valley. Nestled in the old community of Earlehurst, between Covington & Roanoke, Beaverdam Falls are an historic series of waterfalls on private property. The Falls are at the headwaters of Dunlap Creek and are the terminus for the Sweet Springs. Available for guest stays & recreation, are the Upper Falls portion. Surrounded by the verdant George Washington National Forest, the Upper Falls, displays a constant waterfall of around 40-feet in height, & decorates the final mile stretch of the Sweet Springs, both on our property. Additional beautiful cascades pepper our tract of Beaverdam Falls as well. This private tract of unparalleled Virginia countryside will simply astonish your expectations. As the source of the Falls, Sweet Springs Creek, serves as a long, unique home for trout, calcified travertine rock, chalybeate water, and ancient beaver dams (as well as active ones!). Beaverdam Falls is a rare place for the lack of stone and the centuries of beavers who have left their trace in & on our creek—and swamp, the Stick Marsh, which has an active beaver dam. Be careful! They do bite!

With multiple campsites, car camping, and remote primitive sites, there are plenty of options for your next adventure. Located on 600 acres, we have developed the previously used agriculture land into a trail center in hopes of transforming the property from an underutilized farm into a facility that could support local outdoor recreation use and programming. Currently there are 14 miles of purpose built trails, with plans to install up to 30 miles of natural surface trails that will create access to and feature the natural beauty of the property, which includes open meadows, mature hardwood forests, rock outcroppings, an area of volcanic activity, seven freshwater springs, headwater streams (including Brook Trout habitat), and three distinct knobs. These features provide a rich and unique landscape for a trail system. With so much here, there is no need to leave the property. But if you’d like, we are sandwiched between the Monongahela and George Washington National Forests. An outdoor enthusiasts dream.

Glamping on Timber Ridge

Our property was a small family farm for several generations. Our family purchased the property about 18 years ago. Since we are not farmers but love living here, the question became "What would be the best use for the land?" Living in a scenic area and already being in the vacation rental business on some other family property answered the question. We decided to share the beautiful view and seclusion of our area with others. Our goal was to keep the cost of building down so that we could pass on the savings to you so that you would not have to be rich to enjoy our lovely area. This inspired the idea of a glamping cabin. The cabin is actually a repurposed office building that was built about the time this property was purchased by our family. We moved it to the present location and completely remodelled it in 2018 and added the bathroom. For 4 years, guests enjoyed an off-the-grid experience. In 2023, when we began work on the glamping dome (stay tuned--coming soon!!), we decided to add electricity, running water, and a hot tub to the tiny house! We hope you enjoy the cabin (and, soon, the dome) and the stunning view from them as much as we enjoy sharing this beautiful spot with you! Note: The Charming Glamping Cabin is at a totally different property. That property also has a section that used to be farmed. Now a lot of it is forest. We purchased the property around 2000. This cabin was built approx. 10 years later. At that point, the cabin was a tiny economy cabin with a sofa bed. However, it seemed most folks preferred comfort over economy, so in 2020, we added a bump-out to the side of the cabin so there would be room for a queen bed. Guests have loved the improvement. (: Please read the individual site descriptions for more information on each of our listings.

Virginia Backcountry Cabins

“It's too far,” they said. “There's nothing there,” they said. Nestled right in the heart of “where the heck am I?” Virginia, a tiny cabin dream was born. Virginia Backcountry Cabins is a place of community and storytelling centered around 10 individually themed cabins loaded with character…run by characters…patronized by characters. Unpretentious and adventurous, the cabins sit on 135 private acres and back up to thousands of acres of National Forest. A shot of happy, sans jitters. What do you get when you cross a former 60 Minutes producer with a defense finance executive? Yeah, we're not sure either. But here we are, having envisioned leaving television and the corporate slog behind to build a tiny cabin lodging business in the woods. What we lack in sanity, we make up for in absolute love of the outdoors and the majestic beauty of Highland County, Virginia. The people, the Allegheny Mountains, the star-filled sky, the rushing rivers, the farm-to-table food, the cider, the local honey, and the maple syrup...all of it drew us in, and we made this place our home. We didn't just want to build a business...we wanted to create a life around it. So, naturally, we bought 135 acres surrounded by National Forest, packed up our old life, our dogs, our adventure motorcycles, and Jeff's way-too-many backpacks, and jumped on the crazy train that would consume our lives for the next year as we gathered the people and resources to bring Virginia Backcountry Cabins to life. We want to tell stories by the campfire. We want to fly fish, hike, and climb. We want to cold plunge in our spring-fed creek. We want to let the day melt away in a wood-fired sauna. We want to build, curate, and work hard to make this wacky dream thrive. Most of all, we can't wait to meet you and share this little haven in the woods with you.

Wolf Creek Preserve

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway in rural, undeveloped West Virginia. Located in Monroe County, the Corn Crib is your own private, rustic cabin on 400 private acres. Enjoy rolling pastures, incredible mountain views, and swim in your own private, mile-long stretch of creek. This tiny cabin has it all: an off-grid lifestyle with on-grid amenities. Pets stay FREE. Purchased 25 years ago, Wolf Creek Preserve is a 450-acre private nature preserve. The Corn Crib is a former corn crib where corn was stored and dried after harvest. The structure's underpinnings and exterior layout date to the late 1800s, but it was first renovated in 2004 as a hunting cabin. The Corn Crib was transformed into its current tiny-home design in 2017, with additional improvements continuing through 2025. The structure was part of an old farm that included several buildings, including a Victorian home that once served as a stagecoach stop and hotel in the 1800s. The property sits along the banks of Wolf Creek, and we own most of the land surrounding it. There are long stretches of creek, pasture, and woodland to explore. This listing features a rustic, historic corn crib from the late 1800s that has been thoughtfully updated with modern amenities, though it remains a quirky and compact space. Please note that the A/C unit and heat pump are portable and located next to the loft bed. Guests sleeping in the loft must climb narrow stairs, which may not be suitable for elderly guests or those with mobility concerns. The water comes from a well, and we do not recommend drinking it. At times, the water may have a slight sulfur smell, so guests who are sensitive to odors should be aware. The smell is not always present but may occur occasionally. Starlink internet is available and provides excellent connectivity.
