Located in the rolling Appalachian hills of Southeast Ohio. This farm has been in our family since 1869 when our relatives settled here from Germany. Originally farmed for cattle and sheep with many orchards over the years our property is now mostly mature forest. Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,100 feet.
Nearly 500 acres of land with an additional 200+ acres of Wayne National Forest adjacent to our farm and close proximity to other Wayne areas for outdoor activities. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property. Such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are two miles from the Little Muskingum River. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike to the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Ride your motorcycle up Rt. 26 a great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. If motorcycles aren't your method of entertainment and travel. Bring your horse and ride on several of our trails.
From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. We're next to a section of the Wayne National Forest and a short drive to other similar Wayne activity sites. If you like to camp, but don't want the busy public park experience then you will enjoy the privacy of our camping location.
We are also only about a 20-minute drive to downtown Marietta. Where you can find restaurants, bars, and many other fun activities.

Welcome to Our Homestead Campground!
Our secluded 80-acre farm is nestled in a valley between three mountains, where two babbling creeks meet—over two miles from the nearest residence. We raise chickens, ducks, and pigs while practicing permaculture and organic farming, using solar energy for parts of our operation. Camp at the Main Circle near our home trailer, cabana, and bonfire area, with access to electricity and Wi-Fi. For a more rustic experience, Kolb Field offers a peaceful spot along Coon Creek, shaded by a majestic walnut tree. You’re also welcome to camp almost anywhere on the property to find your perfect spot.
A lightly traveled public dirt road runs through our property. While an SUV or 4x4 is recommended, regular cars can access the site, and we have parking for standard vehicles. Please check with us in advance if you plan to bring an RV. Our farm is a great destination for overland camping—perfect for getting your truck a little dirty!
We are cautiously dog-friendly. Our farm dogs patrol the property to protect our free-roaming animals, so visiting dogs must be well-behaved, leashed, and comfortable around other animals. If you're unsure about compatibility, please reach out for advice. Our dogs will come to your camp to "check you out". If your dog has a problem with other dogs that are new to them you must let us know so we can control our dogs. We have had people come with problem dogs and not tell us so, we are asking for a $1 extra that we now require as a pet fee.

Dogwood Cabin is an off grid experience. Think glamping. It is set on 25 acres in the rolling hills of Morgan County in southeast OH, close to the village of Chesterhill. Hidden in the woods, back a gravel driveway. No electricity, no running water, no central heat, no WiFi, no cell service. Truly getting out into nature without distractions.
Hang your hammock between trees. Build a fire to grill your meals. Relax on the porch swing or by the fire. Hike the property, play in the creek.
Dogwood Cabin has a small kitchenette. There is a propane camping stove and some pots, pans, coffee maker, and dishes. We have a grill to place over the fire pit.
There are 4 mattresses in the loft. No linens. Bring sleeping bags, etc.
No running water. Bring water in jugs for drinking, cleaning up and dousing the fire.
Buddy propane heater to take off the chill inside, but not make it cozy.
Bring a flashlight or lantern. We have several battery lanterns. On low, the lights should work for 6-8 hours. On high, much less.
An outhouse (think wooden porta potty) is not far from the cabin.
No cell service or internet. Chesterhill is about 2 miles and has service in numerous places on Main St. We have gone up the hill at the church in Todds - right on Goshen Run, left on St Rt 377, about 2 miles.
Firewood is not provided. You can bring your own or scrounge the woods for dead branches and twigs. Please douse the fire before leaving. Rake leaves away from the fire pit. Dry materials could easily start a forest fire.
8 plastic deck chairs are stacked on the porch. Please put them back and secure the cover before you leave.
We encourage you to get groceries on your way to the cabin, since it is 30 minutes to a decent grocery store. Chesterhill has Ron's Convenience and Restaurant where you can buy subs, pizza, burgers, fries, and groceries. Triple Nickel Diner in Chesterhill is another neat place to eat.
No motorcycles on the driveway.
You may enjoy hiking the 25 acres on the property. Nature is awesome, but check yourselves and your pet for ticks.

Bare Cove is a recreation lake with campsites. However, we are not your typical camp ground. We have no quiet hours, we do get loud and have a great time on the weekends. It’s not uncommon for beer pong or card games to go into the early hours. We are open to all ages and backgrounds, anybody that enjoys making friends and having fun on the lake. All guests must sign personal injury waivers to cover our 6.
So about the property, it’s 120+ acres with a 5 acre man made lake that features blue waters, a beach area and tikibar. We have atv trails, private camp sites and group sites. Bare Cove is a recreation lake with campsites. However, we are not your typical camp ground. We have no quiet hours, we do get loud and have a great time on the weekends. It’s not uncommon for beer pong or card games to go into the early hours. We are open to all ages and backgrounds, anybody that enjoys making friends and having fun on the lake. All guests must sign personal injury waivers to cover our 6.
So about the property, it’s 120+ acres with a 5 acre man made lake that features blue waters, a beach area and tikibar. We have atv trails, private camp sites and group sites. Enjoy the day floating in the clear blue water, fishing (separate pond) or hiking. Our lake also features a launch pillow for blasting your friends up to 20 ft in the air! We do have large float's for rent, which are great for groups. Thanks for looking, would love to host you and your party out at the lake.

Weekend Trip to Appalachian Retreat Camp
Wife and I had all we needed at the Nature Camper. Camper has water, hot water, stove, oven, fridge, microwave, and a Solo Firepit on the private deck. Lots of charm inside, more like a tiny house with completely new appliances and birch walls. Best of all you are on 500 private acres.
We hiked part of the 10 miles of trails in total privacy. Site also has huge grassy tent area you can expand into with large fire-pit - comes with the camper so no neighbors.
Owner’s family goes back to the original log cabin, that is still there off one of the trails. Owner has made his own private preserve, He was interesting, respectful and responsive. Camper pdf had all the details you need.
Easy drive to Marietta Ohio River historic areas, shopping, dining, activities, and Wayne NF trails. No cell or WiFi but it comes in as you drive down the road. Unplug and enjoy!

What a killer spot. Lizzies RV Retreat is peaceful, remote, and just about perfect. The dark skies are unreal for stargazing, and the camping area has everything you could want. Fire pit, composting toilet, elevated deck for tent campers, cooking tools, and even a 50 amp hookup for those of us who like a little juice in the trailer.
The property backs right up to Wayne National Forest with trails leading straight out from camp. There are vernal pools to check out and plenty of wildlife. Coyotes howling, owls hooting, and total quiet otherwise. You’re only about 15 minutes from Marietta too, where you can grab a drink and some great food at Black Diamond Distillery or hit up the local shops downtown.
Jay was an awesome host. Super friendly, stopped by to chat, shared some cool history about the land, and showed us his on site camper that he remodeled from top to bottom. It looks fantastic and is available to rent.
Jay rides too, so for the motorcyclists out there, this spot is perfect for motorcycle camping. Routes like 26 and 800 are nearby and make for some great rides.
Highly recommend. Can’t wait to go back.

Our new favorite site! Everything about this campsite was perfect! The host J. has literally thought of everything. The site is quite large, and felt really private. The bathroom was so clean, and really nice! Can’t wait to stay again in the future. Definitely screenshot the instructions/guide he emails as there is no cell service at site.

Julie was such a kind and accommodating host. If you love animals, you’ll love this farm. Wide open spaces, a giant fire pit, very low light pollution at night for amazing stargazing. The bathroom with toilet and deep wash basin connected to the barn brought so much convenience and comfort. I just can’t express how welcoming and friendly Julie and her husband Shannon were to me. 10/10, I plan on coming back!

This is a really well thought out little off grid cabin. Clean and cozy, and the stove and lamps they leave for you are really nice. At night we slept in the loft with the window open and listened to the owls all night. We will be back!

Really great little site. Lots of fun touches that we don’t see often at Hipcamp spots- a nice campfire spot, a picnic table, paw paws (yum!), privacy… and the toilet!! So clean and didn’t smell like anything but the wood the outhouse was built with. That was amazing, honestly. We used a long extension cord and plugged our camper in at the back part of the site, off the road. Worked beautifully. Plenty of sun for our solar panels for boondocking, if we had brought them. Will definitely star this spot!

Coon Creek Cove is a wonderful place to get away and recharge out in some nature. The space is very nice for a small camper like our teardrop or a tent. I wouldn’t bring any kind of large RV as the road getting into their valley is very tight with several switchbacks. Nick is an incredible host who showed us right to our site, checked up on us and always asked if we needed anything. The space is well maintained and quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed hearing the rooster crow at all hours of the day.

Their farm is extremely charming, and Julie and her husband were excellent hosts. The perfect spot to stop off for the night on my Motorcycle trip. Heads up if you are on a motorcycle, there is a dirt road involved but it’s not bad. 10/10

Dogwood cabin was delightful and remote. My two dogs and I loved the surrounding countryside. At night, it was so cozy! I would highly recommend, however, a few observations:
Watch your head on the steps!
It is dark inside, even mid-day. You will need a light source if cooking or cleaning or to see into the cupboards. I brought several camp lights that charge via USB anf a power pack. They were almost essential.
There were no matches or lighters. I had to make a trip to Stockport.
The camp stove is useful, but the directions on the lid are outdated - there is no longer a pump to prime. It is also not really adjustable. My morning water for coffee took almost an hour to heat up enough for my French press. It's a really nice feature but you might prefer your own.
The only working solar light was on the outhouse. The others didn't light up.
There was no firewood at all. Check in time was 4pm; by the time I got unloaded and settled in, it was too dark in the woods to scrounge for firewood.
The creek is down at the bottom of the very narrow and steep road. My dogs loved it! Best access is down by the entrance gate.
There was quite a bit of activity on Goshen Run Rd. Use caution if walking it. It winds quite a bit and speed limit is 55.
It was super hot, muggy, and buggy, so we didn't do as much outside exploring as I would have liked, but overall Dogwood Cabin was a sweet little abode in the woods on a hilltop.

J’s place was amazing! The campsite was huge and freshly mowed. There is a nice wooden platform, a composting toilet, a grill, a beautiful fire pit area, and plenty of firewood. J was super kind and helpful. We will definitely stay here again next time we come through.

3 nights at Dogwood Cabin
We enjoyed out weekend staying at the dogwood cabin. The cabin was clean and looked exactly as advertised. I loved how when you walked in the house smelled like wood. If you're looking for a rustic place to stay I'd highly recommend.

Oh my goodness!!! All of the sweet animals were so fun to interact with and educational too! Julie was so kind and opened up her farm to us to enjoy freely. My 14 and 7 year old boys loved playing in the creek, having a bonfire, and snuggling the animals.
The driveway was a little intimidating but we had no issues in our 26 ft camper!!! Well marked with signs once you get closer which was super helpful.
If we're ever back in the area, we'd definitely stay there again!!!

I will be coming back here, guaranteed. The owner of the land I camped at, J, was a super cool, chill dude. The camp site was awesome with a huge space tucked right into the hills that provided the perfect mix of sun and shade. J even got the outdoor shower up and running for me. There was no cell service at the site but a 1 minute drive up of the hill and you've got it so you can efficiently post all your picks of this cool place to instagram 😊The local town, Marietta, also has anything you’d ever need. Can’t wait to go back!!
