Wild Yough is located in Southern Garrett County, Maryland very close to Herrington Manor State Park, Swallows Falls State Park, and the quaint mountain village of Oakland. The property adjoins thousands of acres of Garrett State Forest and hundreds of acres of state land along the Youghiogheny River. The world class Wisp resort and Deep Creek Lake are only minutes away. “Yough” is short for Youghiogheny River a state designated wild and scenic river which runs through the heart of the property. Wild Yough Glamping huts are part of more than 350 acres of private land, most of which is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails. Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning “a stream flowing in a contrary direction”, or in the case of the Yough, North toward Ohio Pyle and Pittsburgh. This section of the river is designated as a protected scenic corridor and you will feel the quiet isolation when sitting on the Crooked Butt Bench overlooking the big horseshoe bend in the river at the far back corner of our property. And if the river is low during your visit, feel free to wade across to the other side – Wild Yough owns the entire peninsula of land on the other side of the river and this is also bordered by State land.The river banks are steep on the property, but the fishing for small mouth bass is exceptional. There is a small turn around on the path just beyond Crooked Butt Bench where you can take out your canoe, kayak, or inner tubes after floating the 2+ miles from the Oakland bridge. Just be prepared to walk your water craft back up to the house or Glamping site as there is no motorized access to the river.If you like to lay on the rocks in the sun or take the kids for some wading in the river, the best place is the farthest to walk to. Take the trail to “High Bluff”, then cross the Snyder property line (Permission for trail access only – do not leave trail!), then descend down and cross the bridge across Herrington Manor Creek (a stocked trout stream!). Welcome to our Island Farm! We're located between Davis, Parsons, and Elkins. Dolly Sods, Canaan, Audra State Park, the Tygart River, the Cheat River, Seneca Rocks, and Tygart Lake are all a simple and scenic trip away. The land itself is 10 acres. The main camp area is on flat field and approximately 4 acres. Here is the secret recipe to this camp site: It will be all yours! We only offer a single primitive site per night. There are no neighbors (at least the human kind) visible from anywhere on the main field. Very minimal light pollution. The stars are clearly visible on a clear night. There are also no utilities. This includes water, electricity, or available enclosed shelters. Verizon and AT&T have strong signals in the field. There is a metal carport that has a concrete pad along with a Porta John for privacy. There are also some storage buildings on site. There is a gas station (Sheetz in Belington, WV) within 5 miles of the farm site and a Dollar General within 3 miles. Beyond that, Elkins has plenty of store options if you need supplies. Interstate 79 is 32 miles away. We are in the process of developing the far corner of the main field into an active hops farm and are members of a WV Co-Hop. Again: this site is secluded and your group will be the only people there during your stay. We will provide detailed directions when you make your reservation. The driveway is steep and could cause issues for two wheel drive vehicles in winter. If it's rained extensively there could also be some muddy areas which we ask that you try to avoid.

This spot was perfect for camping—peaceful, secluded, and surrounded by nature. It’s definitely primitive and off the beaten path, which makes it feel like a true escape. You can camp higher up for a more immersive, tucked-away experience in the woods, complete with a small stream nearby. Or choose the lower area near a larger, roaring, clear stream/river that’s absolutely beautiful and great for relaxing. Both options offer a serene setting. The hosts were wonderful—so responsive and welcoming. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unplug and enjoy the simplicity and beauty of the outdoors.

Weekend Trip to River House Campground
5 stars! Tim was a lovely and accommodating host. We were delighted by the cleanliness and utility of the bathhouse/lodge/kitchen, and sleeping in the caboose was super fun for the kids. The site has river access, gorgeous river views, and is nice and shady. A short walk away (maybe 2-3 blocks) there’s also a fun playground. The site is located very near the famous B&O railroad and the train came by a few times per day (and night) which was pretty loud. It didn’t bother us but if you’re a sensitive sleeper it might be something to be aware of. If you are a fan of trains you’ll love it!

Great little loft. Basically like having your own efficiency apartment, complete with bathroom and kitchen. Would rent this before a hotel room any day. You can hear people in the garage below occasionally but I think the loft is actually more private than the Lily Pad Cabin because of it's elevated nature, and the entrance is up a flight of steps in the back yard (which is super nice if your have a dog or cat you need to let out). I was very pleased with the level of peace and quiet as I came here to study and would never know a major highway is 1000 feet away. Feels like being in the country! Price was reasonable for the level of comfort and extra attention to detail the owners clearly take to make this feel like a special place. Make sure to read about their charity! It is named after their dog Mojo and they do a lot of amazing work for shelters. My cat who stayed here is a rescue, and she says she approves! 👍 👍 🐾

Learn more about this land: This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site. We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. This property and farm has been in our family for 3 generations. In 1964 my grandfather started the campground due to limited camping at New Germany. My father tells stories of it being filled with guests all summer long! Over the years there was few upgrades and now it's in need of a facelift. Landscaping, electric upgrades and bathhouse remodels were completed Spring 2021. We will continue to renovate in phases it's been a labor of love, but you can still see the beauty of this rural location and enjoy the peace and quiet. Hope you enjoy your stay. Lots of trees, shade and nature. It's located near New Germany State Park, 1.5 miles by car, less than a mile by foot. The state park has a lake and hiking trails. Garrett County has so much to offer, waterfalls, lakes, hiking, skiing, Amish gifts, history, fresh air, beautiful scenery. The campground was first started in 1964 by my grandparents, we are currently completing renovations in phases.

This spot is best for a van camp location but plenty of space for tents and hammocks. You'll find a drive-up deck if you wish to park there. Firewood is available providing you use downfalls as kindling in the stone fire pit. A 8x20' deck and picnic table are 20 feet from the fire for stargazing. When the ferns are full grown they are 3 feet tall and everywhere. A 10 minute walk takes you through a dense pine forest with large rock formations and a nice creek with many gurgling fall areas. If there looks like a cave amongst the large rocks, then it probably is a bear den. There is a lot to do near by. Some note worthy locations : Cranberry Glade Lake (good for kayaking or fishing), Ohiopyle, 7 Springs, Fallingwater, Living Treasures, Caddie Shak, and Hidden Valley are all about 25 minutes away. This property also borders Laurel Ridge State Park. There is a Dollar General and a gas station about 15 minutes away for convenience needs.

The Montour Trail stands out as the longest suburban rail-trail in the United States, offering a unique multi-use, non-motorized recreational pathway around Pittsburgh. This privately owned and operated trail spans approximately 47 miles, with branch routes extending the total length to over 60 miles. The trail features a relatively flat half-loop that runs from Coraopolis along the scenic Ohio River to Clairton on the Monongahela River. Additionally, a northwest branch provides direct access to Pittsburgh International Airport, making it convenient for travelers. Connecting seamlessly with other notable trails in western Pennsylvania, the Montour Trail links to the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) and the C&O Canal Towpath, forming a remarkable trail system that stretches over 300 miles from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC. It also connects to the Panhandle Trail, a converted railroad line that runs from Weirton, West Virginia, to Carnegie. Furthermore, the Montour Trail is part of U.S. Bicycle Route 50, which, when fully completed, will traverse the country from east to west.
