This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports.
The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site.
We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. Wild Yough is located in Southern Garrett County, Maryland very close to Herrington Manor State Park, Swallows Falls State Park, and the quaint mountain village of Oakland. The property adjoins thousands of acres of Garrett State Forest and hundreds of acres of state land along the Youghiogheny River. The world class Wisp resort and Deep Creek Lake are only minutes away. “Yough” is short for Youghiogheny River a state designated wild and scenic river which runs through the heart of the property. Wild Yough Glamping huts are part of more than 350 acres of private land, most of which is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails. Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning “a stream flowing in a contrary direction”, or in the case of the Yough, North toward Ohio Pyle and Pittsburgh. This section of the river is designated as a protected scenic corridor and you will feel the quiet isolation when sitting on the Crooked Butt Bench overlooking the big horseshoe bend in the river at the far back corner of our property. And if the river is low during your visit, feel free to wade across to the other side – Wild Yough owns the entire peninsula of land on the other side of the river and this is also bordered by State land.The river banks are steep on the property, but the fishing for small mouth bass is exceptional. There is a small turn around on the path just beyond Crooked Butt Bench where you can take out your canoe, kayak, or inner tubes after floating the 2+ miles from the Oakland bridge. Just be prepared to walk your water craft back up to the house or Glamping site as there is no motorized access to the river.If you like to lay on the rocks in the sun or take the kids for some wading in the river, the best place is the farthest to walk to. Take the trail to “High Bluff”, then cross the Snyder property line (Permission for trail access only – do not leave trail!), then descend down and cross the bridge across Herrington Manor Creek (a stocked trout stream!). Wild Yough property is to your right along the river and there is a great place for lying in the sun, doing some fishing, or just wading into the cool waters of the Yough on a hot summer day.Learn more about this land:The idea is simple- our glamping site will offer a true camping experience without all the hassles and fuss. The range is for our junior marksmanship program to practice for Nationals and local matches.

This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports.
The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site.
We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. Wild Yough is located in Southern Garrett County, Maryland very close to Herrington Manor State Park, Swallows Falls State Park, and the quaint mountain village of Oakland. The property adjoins thousands of acres of Garrett State Forest and hundreds of acres of state land along the Youghiogheny River. The world class Wisp resort and Deep Creek Lake are only minutes away. “Yough” is short for Youghiogheny River a state designated wild and scenic river which runs through the heart of the property. Wild Yough Glamping huts are part of more than 350 acres of private land, most of which is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails. Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning “a stream flowing in a contrary direction”, or in the case of the Yough, North toward Ohio Pyle and Pittsburgh. This section of the river is designated as a protected scenic corridor and you will feel the quiet isolation when sitting on the Crooked Butt Bench overlooking the big horseshoe bend in the river at the far back corner of our property. And if the river is low during your visit, feel free to wade across to the other side – Wild Yough owns the entire peninsula of land on the other side of the river and this is also bordered by State land.The river banks are steep on the property, but the fishing for small mouth bass is exceptional. There is a small turn around on the path just beyond Crooked Butt Bench where you can take out your canoe, kayak, or inner tubes after floating the 2+ miles from the Oakland bridge. Just be prepared to walk your water craft back up to the house or Glamping site as there is no motorized access to the river.If you like to lay on the rocks in the sun or take the kids for some wading in the river, the best place is the farthest to walk to. Take the trail to “High Bluff”, then cross the Snyder property line (Permission for trail access only – do not leave trail!), then descend down and cross the bridge across Herrington Manor Creek (a stocked trout stream!). This is my second time at Abrams creek in two years. The amenities have improved over the last two years.Michael and Sara are super hosts and would love to return back when I can. Cozy cabin and ample space around the campfire to rest and relax. Michael is super informative about the amenities. 1 night at Brooklyn Heights Riverfront Camp
If I could give 100 stars I would. This location is on a dead end Street on a beautiful river. They have many acres and it will look like you are going to nowhere but you are going somewhere Awesome! I went in early January, snow on the ground when I arrived..I was in a very low car and still arrived safely. The roads were clean, even if narrow, which is to be expected in the area. Mountain roads are a great experience! I was staying just one night on a trip that I wish I had more time to stay here on! The campground itself is described as primitive maybe because of the amenities, but I had close to everything needed and was advised to bring stuff that wasn’t provided. So I was good to go. I booked the heated and electric supplied tiny cabin specifically because I knew I would be traveling in January and needed to recharge. The temperature overnight was I think in the 40s, my little heater ran all night long. I had blankets and I was comfortable. At one point I was actually hot. A overnight rainstorm washed away most of the snow and any threat of ice and then the next morning was absolutely stunning! Fire Island and the river access and the buses and the teepee look like something I want to do in the spring or summer! The coffee hut was open 24 seven and the firewood was plentiful. I had the entire place almost to myself with the exception of the “staff/owner”. But I was completely able to self check in and stay independently. Vince checked in but it’s very well marked.

The hosts were warm and welcoming, but also gave me the space I needed for my own private retreat. The cabin was cozy, warm, and comfortable. It was a lovely setting with plenty of options for hiking about half an hour away in different directions.

Me and my partner chose to rent this cabin for thanksgiving. It was absolutely fabulous, the cabin is so cozy, the composting toilet did not bring any smell, the shower was great, the bed was very comfortable and the view from the bed was the best part of the trip. I cannot wait to rent this again.
Virgil and his wife were also very welcoming. I highly recommend renting this property.

We loved staying at Myra's cabin. Comfy beds, clean, good shower, and responsive host. There is a spiral staircase that took us a bit to get used to, but we all did, kids included. Great location between Cleveland & DC.

Weekend Trip to Olde Tyme Cabins
The location was perfect! We felt secluded in our little camp and were able to hike up the hillside nearby. We loved the campfire with the lights strung around, and there were roasting sticks in one of the RV cubbies. The hot tub was amazing. We did get rained out of the hot tub, since there is no awning over it, but once the rain stopped, we were able to enjoy again. The master bed was comfortable, and the bunk beds have a curtain to keep lights out for later sleepers. We camped in mid-November and stayed warm and cozy the whole time. Our only complaint was the water. It never quite worked well enough to shower, and washing dishes was frustrating. We did let our hosts know, and they came quickly to work on it, which helped for a short while, but didn't last the duration.

Weekend Trip to Ferns in the Forest
Virgil & Pam really go above and beyond at The Fern House! The cabin was comfy and stocked with everything one could need for an extended weekend away. Our hosts were generous and gracious. They provide great communication and hospitality. We spent 3 nights and wish it could've been longer! Our pups loved the mile walk around the property each morning plus great hiking spots nearby. We took advantage of the fireplace, local eatery suggestions, and the loft was the perfect hideaway for resting and waking to beautiful wooded views. We cant wait to come back!

Absolutely loved the creek access, my dog in particular was a huge fan! The bed was ridiculously nice to settle in to after a long day on the trails. The site is a good size with plenty of nice additionals- have the propane grill available for low commitment coffee in the morning was a nice touch.
It was exactly what I needed.

We absolutely loved staying in the Fernhouse!! It was perfect. It was adorable and so cozy. It was very clean and had everything we needed. The location was wonderful! So close to hiking trails and lots of outdoor recreation. The hike around the property was beautiful and our dogs loved walking it with us in the morning. The outdoor area is super cozy too. Virgil was so kind and welcoming. We will be back again in another season!! I would highly recommend.

Weekend Trip to Nanny’s Rustic Retreat
Donnie's property is truly an unexpected little slice of heaven. From the property and amenities, to the welcomed animal interruptions during our detailed tour at the courtesy of Donnie...this place is truly something special.
Although during our stay we were doing what some would classify as "glamping"; the amount of amenities and relaxing feeling they create makes it feel more like a country resort.
We will definitely be back!
