Taylors Landing Camping Club

13 sites · RVs, Tents42 acres · Sharpsburg, MD
UPON BOOKING PLEASE READ ARRIVAL INSTRUSTIONS THAT CAN BE FOUND IN THE SITE LISTING. We share a driveway. Our entrance is only 250 yards up the drive on the left: clearly marked with two orange cones and a Hipcamp sign. It's important not to miss my entrance (watch for oncoming traffic!!) as it's a long drive to turnaround and it becomes private property past my lot. In most cases, I can accommodate early check in times as well as late check outs. Please advise if this is desired. ONLY use 16869 Taylors Landing Rd, Sharpsburg Md for your GPS directions. Experience the beauty of this historic property, featuring a mix of woodland, grassy hilltops, and clover filled bottomlands. Come and enjoy the near direct access to the CO Canal Historic Park and Towpath and the kid friendly, serene stretch of the Potomac River we border. Choose from 7 similar sites available for your camping pleasure as well as our Hilltop site for maximum privacy and star gazing potential. The natural Shade/Privacy nooks will keep the midday sun off of tents and the surrounding old growth forest makes for a great hike up to a very accessible and kid friendly cave to explore. Whether you stay for a day or a month, immerse yourself in nature and enjoy the tranquil waters of the Potomac River. Throughout the summer, the river offers a user-friendly experience as water levels recede. Embark on float trips, kayaking, excellent fishing, swimming, cave exploring, or visit the historic towns and the Antietam Battlefields nearby for a touch of civilization during your stays. For biking enthusiasts, challenge yourself on the nearly 3 miles of single-track bike trails on the property. Alternatively, explore the endless miles of easy biking, hiking, and horseback riding (byoh) on the CandO Towpath. Whether looking for adventure or just chill down time, this location is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. There is limited shade in the camping areas after 2-3:00 PM depending on the time of year. We're working on large area sun shelters but havent gotten there just yet. The River shore/beach is shady or filtered sun all day long. 4wd or All Wheel Drive are strongly recommended. If it's been dry, single wheel drive is fine, but if we get a hard rain the day before or during the stay, I'll be pulling you up the hill a short distance to exit. PLEASE READ ARRIVAL INSTRUSTIONS CAREFULLY AFTER BOOKING!!

Camp Cedar Creek

6 sites · Tents20 acres · Middletown, VA
Creekside camping on Cedar Creek, one of the cleanest creeks in America. You'll be surrounded by beautiful scenery with a fire pit at each site. Enjoy birdwatching, wood turtles, wood ducks, eagles, hawks, blue crane, and other wildlife. Cell phones optional! Take day trips to wineries, farm markets, orchards, historic sites, and more. Enjoy fishing, hiking, National Forest, biking, solitude and nature. Outdoor shower and port-a-john on site. Cornhole boards, firewood and load-in assistance available upon request for a small fee. Nearby attractions include fishing, hiking, swimming, wineries, biking, orchards, Skyline Drive, and GW national forest. The oral history of Coal Mine Hollow has it that a moonshine still once graced the banks of Camp Cedar Creek. It was run by a recluse, who was always on the move from the Revenuers. A revenuer went missing along Cedar Creek one moonlit night, never to be seen again. The bearded recluse who ran the still, owned two mules, and an old car frame without a motor. Those mules would pull him through the hollow, and up into the mountains, where the revenuers never found him. Some say on a cold, moonlit night, they’ve seen his two old mules, pulling an old car frame past Camp Cedar Creek.

The Byrd's Nest on the River

2 sites · RVs, Tents3 acres · Great Cacapon , WV
~ Voted West Virginia's No. 1 HIPCAMP, three years in a row!! ~ The Byrd's Nest is a river front, primitive campsite on the scenic Cacapon River in Great Cacapon, WV. The property is very secluded, but only 2 hrs from D. C. and Baltimore. The space can accommodate 5 tents comfortably or a few very small campers (w/o hookups). Please note- I only book one group at a time. You'll have plenty of privacy. Spend your day bird watching on the river deck, put up your hammock and chill, go hiking or mountain biking at Cacapon State Park, take the kayaks out and paddle around, go fishing, or take a float trip. I can provide info on put in/take out spots depending on how long you'd like to float. I have 3 tubes available for your use, and 3 kayaks, or BYO if you'd like to venture further outside of the property lines. There is one big fire ring for cooking and/or bonfires, along with a large stationary stand up charcoal camp grill. There is also a small shed down at camp that contains rope, tarps, shovel, shade tent, tackle box, extra torch fuel etc.. feel free to use use and put back and or/ contribute to it. :) This spot is close by to Berkeley Springs, Paw Paw Tunnel, Cacapon State Park, and other nature preserves. More hiking, biking, restaurants, spas, antiquing- all within a beautiful 20 minute drive if you wish to venture out. If I do not respond soon after your inquiry, it's because I am without reception. Even if your inquiry expires in 24 hours, I will still get back to you! Thanks in advance for your patience. There is a cabin on the property. I will more often be home than not, I will communicate with you about that around your stay. Sometimes I"ll come down to the river frontage if I drop in for a float. Also, we all get around on four wheelers and UTV's. So you will hear them from time to time. If I am home, please feel free to come up if you have any concerns/questions or to say hi! :) *Please note, you can normally get to this site without a 4 wheel drive vehicle. However, when the river is high it will sometimes flood the low water bridge where it crosses the Cacapon. If this is the case during your stay, there is a back way in over the ridge. You will absolutely need 4 wheel drive with clearance and it takes about 30 minutes longer and a sense of adventure- but you'll be rewarded with beautiful views and waterfalls at the switchbacks:) This route in is only an option when the bridge is flooded, as it is a private road that has many gates. I will provide all necessary information before your stay regarding projected river levels and directions. I will also offer a full refund if the bridge is impassable and you decide not to come. Sadly, the floating dock you see in the older pictures did not make it through the river ice last winter. However, the deck is now turned into another tent platform! In addition to that, there is now a 9x14 pavilion and a porta john for your use! *Please visit Cacaponriver.org prior to your stay for more info on our beautiful river:)

North Mountain Recreation

2 sites · RVs, Tents50 acres · Back Creek, VA
The site was once part of a country club that included lakes, ponds, tennis courts, and even a ski lift.  After falling into disrepair for years it has now been privatized and brought back to allow guests a chance to experience many of the former recreational options.  Today, a stay allows renters a chance to camp on top of North Mountain overlooking the Shenandoah Valley and the Allegheny Mountains.  In addition to gorgeous views, the site offers miles of roads to hike, bike, and explore as well as fishing ponds, a baseball field, and playground.  The site also offers one of the best options for hikers and backpackers to access the Tuscarora Trail at roughly its midpoint along one of its most scenic stretches.   Learn more about this land:The campsites sit at the very top of North Mountain, which dominates over the Shenandoah Valley at an elevation of almost 2400 feet. The sites are slightly sloping and rocky in places but have numerous plots to pitch a tent or set up your camper (campers will probably need to be leveled). The drive and immediate area around the sites offer spectacular views of the Shenandoah Valley and the Allegheny Mountains (see photos).  However, the campsites are tucked into the pines and laurel for some protection from the elements and privacy (see photos).  This obstructs your immediate views from the site especially in the summer when leaves set on.  Nonetheless, you are literally camping on one of the highest peaks around.  The site is dry and does not have facilities so you must bring all of your camping gear, food/water, and pack out all trash/waste. This includes a camp toilet (mandatory for site cleanliness). The sites offer access to an immense amount to do for the individual, couple, or family.  Think of the sites as your base camp to park your gear much like at national parks.  There is excellent access for day hikers and backpackers on the Tuscarora Trail via the Biby Trailhead just .8 miles down the scenic road (Timber Ridge Trail) traversing the ridgeline.  The sites offer access to the trail at roughly the midpoint along one of its most scenic sections (Gore to Trout Pond).  Many hikers looking to start or end their trek choose to use the campsite as their trailhead camp or place to drop vehicles.  ***If you would like to use the site for long term parking while hiking the Tuscarora Trail, please contact me directly and this can be worked out.  In addition, miles of well maintained public dirt and paved roads are available for walks, hikes, horseback riding, and biking.  There is minimal traffic at the top of the mountain even though it is a residential area so people will often take walks or bike trips around this section. If you head down the mountain, you and/or your kids can enjoy the well maintained grass fields, a baseball diamond, playground with a jungle gym, and fishing ponds, which are part of the old development and open to the landowners and their guests in the community. There is also a lake, which is temporarily closed due to low water levels, but still pretty to view. If you aren't into logging miles on the trail, then set up your grill or kick back by the campfire and enjoy the fresh mountain air scented by pines atop North Mountain. The area was once part of a country club that even included a ski lift in years gone by. Today, in the valley as you enter the former "Shawneeland" development, you will be greeted by some old historic buildings from the days of the country club before driving through the old residential development and up North Mountain to the site.  The site offers a nice cleared area for establishing your campsite on my private land, which affords you access to miles and miles of trails and roads as well as the large community area at the bottom of the mountain where you will find the recreational facilities. Tom's Market is also conveniently located just 10 minutes (about 4 miles) from the campsite as you enter Shawneeland for gas, snacks, firewood, and extras. The drive up the mountain is steep but paved and well maintained. Once on the ridge, you will follow relatively level paved road before turning onto a state-maintained dirt road for the last quarter mile. From there you will access the site via a dirt drive directly across from a county communications site.  The site is accessible with 2WD vehicles, but if you intend to pull into a lower portion of the site or access the site during inclement weather (snow/ice), 4WD is necessary and always recommended rain or shine. The sites are established much like a park that allows campers to drive right into the site and setup on ground of their choosing. Each site has one established stone fireplace. This site can support either one large group or a few smaller groups. If you have a larger party, this can often be accommodated with early notice.
