This property and farm has been in our family for 3 generations. In 1964 my grandfather started the campground due to limited camping at New Germany. My father tells stories of it being filled with guests all summer long! Over the years there was few upgrades and now it's in need of a facelift. Landscaping, electric upgrades and bathhouse remodels were completed Spring 2021. We will continue to renovate in phases it's been a labor of love, but you can still see the beauty of this rural location and enjoy the peace and quiet. Hope you enjoy your stay. Lots of trees, shade and nature. It's located near New Germany State Park, 1.5 miles by car, less than a mile by foot. The state park has a lake and hiking trails. Garrett County has so much to offer, waterfalls, lakes, hiking, skiing, Amish gifts, history, fresh air, beautiful scenery. The campground was first started in 1964 by my grandparents, we are currently completing renovations in phases.

During exceptionally dry periods, open fire restrictions may be put in effect. You will need a four wheel drive vehicle to access the site. If not, or in inclement weather (snow or heavy rains), you can hike in from the state road where the access road begins. Learn more about this land: The property's history dates back to pre-European settlement and was originally inhabited by Native Americans with archaeological evidence dating back at least 10,000 years. After European settlement, numerous of battles were fought in the area during the French and Indian War, American Revolution, and it was even a cross-roads for armies during the Civil War. Farming, sustenance farming, and logging were the primary industries throughout the region. Later, during the Industrial Revolution, the river, limestone, charcoal, and iron ore from the area fueled a local iron bloomery, which the area, "Bloomery," is still named. The land you are camping on was nearly completely logged over the last hundred years, but a few old growth trees can still be found throughout the mixed hardwoods forest. On the way to the campsite you will also pass the old original school house (now a hunting cabin) located on a neighbor's adjoining property. There are still a few old timers left that attended the one room schoolhouse as children, but the building predates them by many years. My husband and I had a wonderful time with our 3 dogs camping on Lynda's property for a weekend trip to Shenandoah! The dogs loved being able to run around and play off leash. We set up camp next to the creek where the fire pit was, and it was so quiet and peaceful. We did not use the electric but used the water spigot, which was just a short walk from where we set up camp. We definitely did not explore the property as much as we could have since we spent most of our time there relaxing by the fire after hiking in the national park, but it is absolutely beautiful and there is tons to explore! We hauled a pop up camper with a Ford Excursion, which worked great for us and we are used to doing this kind of thing, but I will say when Lynda says you need 4WD to get down the hill to the creek camping area she is not lying. Use your judgement. If you are not comfortable hauling something up and down a very steep hill and driving on a narrow dirt road, don't chance it. You can definitely get stuck. There is another area where you can set up camp and can still explore the property all the same! Shenandoah is just a short drive away, which makes this the perfect location. There is a road next to the property but it is a quiet back road - only a couple cars when by during our time there. We definitely recommend Lynda's property!!!

Weekend Trip to Riverside Mountain Retreat

Beautiful (especially in the fall), secluded spot up on the mountain with a view of the valley below. Had a great experience camping despite a little rain. Follow the directions carefully to find the spot - many of the paths were covered by leaves so not always clear. Definitely need a 4x4 to get there! Host even left out a bucket of water to douse the fire.

What an incredible site! You have endless space to yourself, a creek to explore, a lake with boats, flat land for your tent, a picnic table, and a fire pit. Just set up your own portable potty and you’re good to go. We didn’t find the water pump but filtered the creek water which was very convenient. Lynda was communicative and helpful. Our free-ranging dog and young son had a blast. Can’t wait to return in warmer weather for a longer stay.

Everything was really great! The beautiful location was so amazing for a relaxing weekend. We appreciated how well-supplied the site was. Anything we forgot was readily available. It does say to bring linens. That was not needed for us but having an extra blanket is great for those colder nights. We highly recommend waking up early to see the sunrise over the mountains. The mist on the water was so magical and we even saw a mink walking right up to us!

Area down by the river very spacious and well-maintained. Beautiful property. Multiple spots to chose from. Walking paths mowed into the grass along the river. Road width, height clearance, and bends down to river site limit trailer length. I had a truck towing a 15ft teardrop and was fine. There is a public road along the property so there is some road noise but it dies down in the evening. Hiking paths on other parts of property.

We loved the spot!! We fly fished in the pond and caught large and small mouth bass and a couple blue gill. My daughter and I aren’t very good at fly fishing so it’s always nice to feel successful! The little peddle boat they had available was perfect and we could easily get to the cooler spots. My husband also nymph fished in the river. As others said, there is fire wood but bring an ax to chop it up. We only wish we had better prepared which hikes we wanted to do. We have verizon and there wasn’t any cell service, even in the small town of Washington, so we really just stuck to the camp site. No matter- now we just know for next time!

The space at Lynda’s was so dreamy, such a wonderful getaway. I appreciated her communication leading up to my trip, and couldn’t have been happier with the site. I am so thankful to know her spot is there and would love to return with friends to enjoy the lovely space!
