Close to Snowshoe Mountain, at only 1 mile drive from the entrance to Snowshoe Mountain Resort. This is a great spot for mountain bikers and river lovers. So close to snowshoe and affordable makes this an easy decision. Also the wildlife, flowers, and river on the property make this a truly powerful place. There is some traffic and noise from the road but it quiets down through the night and all you can hear is the trickle of the stream. We have a lovely 20 acre are that has easy to pull up to camp sites and some that take a short walk but are able to camp right near the river bed. We offer camping for all ranges of groups and travelers. We have campsites for tents, cars and vans, big RV's and Trailers, and then group sized sites. Property was owned by my great grandfather , He lost 150 acres in the early 1900's due to a bad debt from neighboring landowner. Was so happy to be able to repurchase the 150 acres back in 2016,now own the original land tract and added more. 250 acres in total. Portions were strip mined around 1978-1982 creating some flat fields and access to all property. I might add that strip mining if done properly can and does enhance the property. Ponds were built to catch runoff and several new animal species moved in waterfowl ,muskrats, and beavers. The beavers have constructed large dams on property further adding to the beauty. Have seen several bald eagles on and around the property.

Welcome to Our Homestead Campground! Our secluded 80-acre farm is nestled in a valley between three mountains, where two babbling creeks meet—over two miles from the nearest residence. We raise chickens, ducks, and pigs while practicing permaculture and organic farming, using solar energy for parts of our operation. Enjoy the peace and quiet of our hideaway with modern conveniences like electricity and internet. We’re happy to share our homestead lifestyle or simply provide a quiet place for you to relax. Camp at the Main Circle near our home trailer, cabana, and bonfire area, with access to electricity and Wi-Fi. For a more rustic experience, Kolb Field offers a peaceful spot along Coon Creek, shaded by a majestic walnut tree. You’re also welcome to camp almost anywhere on the property to find your perfect spot. A lightly traveled public dirt road runs through our property. While an SUV or 4x4 is recommended, regular cars can access the site, and we have parking for standard vehicles. Please check with us in advance if you plan to bring an RV. Our farm is a great destination for overland camping—perfect for getting your truck a little dirty! We are cautiously dog-friendly. Our farm dogs patrol the property to protect our free-roaming animals, so visiting dogs must be well-behaved, leashed, and comfortable around other animals. If you're unsure about compatibility, please reach out for advice. Our dogs will come to your camp to "check you out". If your dog has a problem with other dogs that are new to them you must let us know so we can control our dogs. We have had people come with problem dogs and not tell us so, we are asking for a $1 extra that we now require as a pet fee. While you're here, visit our local businesses in Gassaway. At Bigfoot Braxxie's Bikes, you can rent a bike and explore the 40-mile Elk River Rail Trail. Trailhead Farm Meats & More offers our farm-raised, all-natural meats and other local products. For instant or same-day bookings, please note that we may not always be available to respond immediately, but our directions are accurate. If you don’t hear from us right away, you’re still welcome to come and enjoy your stay. We look forward to hosting you and sharing the beauty of our homestead!

Escape the noise and immerse yourself in nature on a private 32-acre off-grid sanctuary. Nestled directly on a beautiful creek and surrounded by three different national forests, this is the perfect basecamp for your next adventure or a peaceful retreat to recharge with your loyal companion since we are pet-friendly. This isn't a crowded campground; it's your land to explore. Fall asleep to the sound of a gentle creek, wake up to crisp mountain air, and spend your days hiking, fishing, or simply relaxing by the fire. With direct access to thousands of acres of public land, the possibilities are endless. Whether you're looking for a weekend getaway in your tent or a longer stay in your self-contained RV, this slice of paradise offers the solitude and connection to the wild you've been searching for. The Space: Your campsite ensures total privacy and a true sense of seclusion. You park at the top of an embankment and walk down about a 10 foot decline. A capable 4 x 4 overland rig can drive down. Our home is situated on the far end of the property with its own separate entrance, while you’ll have your own driveway and gated entrance. We are close enough that if you need a cup of sugar or a telephone, we’re here for you—but we won’t intervene in your stay unless invited to, such as for a live guitar singalong by the fireside ;-) If you stay up late howling at the moon, or if your dog barks at wildlife late at night, you’re far enough away that we won’t be bothered. The property fronts a serene creek with truly pristine water. Due to the remoteness of the area, there is no industry or population density to pollute it. It’s perfect for cooling off on a warm day, trying your luck at fishing, or simply enjoying the tranquil sounds of flowing water. There are multiple large, semi-level areas perfect for setting up tents or parking self-contained RVs, giving you plenty of room to spread out and make yourself at home. We flattened out a creekside 9x10’ tent site. This is a true off-grid experience. Come prepared to disconnect, as there is no phone service, but we have installed WiFi. Enjoy the stars free from city light pollution.

* IF BOOKING FOR 4 -- 2 PEOPLE MUST TENT CAMP! CAMPER ONLY SLEEPS 2 :) * Camp Lucky Otter now offers a camper! It includes a short queen bed, dining nook, coffee bar, a mini fridge,+ camp essentials + space to store your things. Camp offers: a camp stove, porta potty, outdoor sink, firewood, outdoor cook area, and deck. Camp does NOT offer: an indoor kitchen or shower (yet!) Lucky Otter is half an acre of forest with beautiful, subtle views of Summersville Lake. This camp is next door to a cabin with friendly / respectful tenants. It is a shared driveway but campers park in a low spot at the bottom of the driveway -- not up by cabin. There is a tall fence to separate camp from the cabin but it is close by. Please note that the camper itself only sleeps two -- if you book for four -- 2 folks will need to tent camp. There is so much to enjoy at Lucky Otter: the lake breeze, shady forest canopy, birdsong, room for activities, camp meals, and time around the campfire. Bird sounds prevail over boat noise -- which only occurs during busy season and during the day. At night, you will drift asleep to peaceful nature noises. Lucky Otter is a haven for campers, climbers, and lake folk alike. Rest at camp or venture off to the crags (very close to the Meadow and the Lake) or nearby hiking trails. We are just minutes from Battle Run Boat Launch, Gauley River put-in, and Summersville Dam. Drive just a mere 5 minutes and explore or picnic at Carnifex Ferry State Park -- they have the best panoramic river view! Check out Ample Pizza and Freefolk Brewery -- just a quick 12 minute drive -- and halfway to the National Park! We are a quick trip to the New River Gorge National Park (about 15 miles) and just a twenty minute drive from downtown Fayetteville. Explore Fayette Station where you can find a river front beach, waterfalls, and hiking trails. We offer the perfect spot to relax with your friends or family. Pups are totally welcome -- they must be leashed. Please note that the steep sloping hill past the two adirondack chairs at the bottom of camp that goes down to the lake is NOT our property but the Army Corps. Please see our link to Army Corps / Summersville Lake rules and regulations. Need something? Shoot us a message and we are happy to try to accommodate.

There are no neighboring campsites, no shared spaces, and no other campers. Hike, explore, move camp throughout your stay, or settle into your favorite spot—the entire mountain is yours to enjoy. This extraordinary property borders over 2,500 acres of George Washington National Forest, providing direct access to hiking while maintaining complete privacy. Explore more than 1,000 feet of elevation change, a half-mile of scenic Cowardin Run, hardwood forests, wildlife habitat, and spectacular western-facing overlooks with sunsets stretching nearly 60 miles across the Allegheny Mountains. Located only 3 miles from downtown Hot Springs and The Omni Homestead Resort, you'll have easy access to restaurants, golf, horseback riding, fly fishing, spa treatments, and the historic Warm Springs Pools before returning to complete solitude. Please note before booking: Weekday Construction: We are building our future home near the center of the property. Because the property is over 235 acres, there are numerous quiet camping locations well away from the construction zone. Even during construction, only one Hipcamp reservation is accepted at a time, so your group continues to enjoy exclusive access to the property. Occasionally, foresters, environmental specialists, or USDA/Virginia Department of Forestry personnel may visit to monitor the forest or ongoing conservation projects. Visible wildlife trail cameras are used solely to monitor wildlife and property conditions—they are never hidden and are not intended for guest surveillance.

Meadowcroft is a semi-primitive cabin on the bank of the beautiful Meadow River. Swim, fish, and hang out with the river otters. It's like camping, but with a roof over your head, WiFi, A/C in the summer, and a cozy wood stove in the winter. A large lawn with fire ring fronts a long section of lazy river (perfect for paddleboarding, tubing, canoeing, etc.), with worldclass whitewater beginning about a mile downstream. Premium bouldering is two miles away, Meadow sport climbing 10 min., Summersville Lake 15 min., and all other NRG-area climbing and National Park within a 25-min radius. Like Camping, But a Cabin The cabin is a lovingly souped-up Amish-built shed. What says agritourism more than a primitive campground on a sheep farm in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia? Here you’re only a short drive from the New River Gorge National Park where you can go whitewater rafting or take a hike and experience the stunning beauty of the gorge, swim or paddleboard in Summersville Lake or go rock climbing on one of around 150 routes on the crags of the lake. In addition, you’ll be within walking distance of the Gauley River with all it’s wild untamed beauty where you can kayak, swim, fish, paddleboard, or splash in a waterfall. Not to mention being on a sheep farm, you can have the opportunity to learn about wool and wool processing. You can even learn how to felt wool and take home your creation! The Tawney Farm is a small-scale wool sheep farm adjacent to the beautiful Gauley River National Recreation Area and just a short drive to the New River Gorge National Park. Our farm lies nestled in between two beautiful mountains, one of them named Panther Mountain, in the Gauley River gorge. Here we raise Merino and Jacob sheep. Our farm is also home to a miniature horse and chickens. In addition to the NRG and Summersville Lake and Dam, also close by are Carnifex Ferry Battleground State Park where you can see where a crucial civil war battle took place, as well as Babcock State Park with its iconic grist mill and waterfall. We provide 5 sites on our farm for every camping style, from electric and water RV hookup, dry RV to tent, each with a canopy shelter, table, fire pit and grill. All sites are spaciously separate from one another for privacy and perfect for couples who want to get away from it all, or for families or groups of friends who want to reconnect and catch up. Clean portajohns are provided as well as a common area with a dishwashing station and a "to die for" outdoor hot water shower (above-freezing temperatures permitting)! Dishwashing station and hot water shower does not apply to the Gauley River Adventure site.
