Palouse Falls State Park is a great 34 mile drive past the Snake River. The Palouse River runs through a seemingly invisible gorge to reveal the 178 foot Palouse Falls. From there, the water current moves swiftly through a winding gorge of columnar basalt, to its southern end at the Snake River.
We’re also about 26 miles from the Snake River, and 36 miles to Columbia River if the water is where you would enjoy your day.

The property, aptly named the Oasis years ago, is 34-acres of lawns, shade trees, ponds, and natural landscaping over 50 years in the making. The landscaping was started by Tom who still lives in the farmhouse. The Schierman family has owned this property for four generations. The Oasis is located in the rolling hills of the Palouse in eastern Washington State.
The newly created Yonder Hills Disc Golf Course is a private 18 and 9-basket course with long and short pads for almost every basket. A mix of open lawn, wooded fairways, water hazards, and elevation changes. Day, overnight or weekly reservations must be made to enjoy this private course.
The disc golf course is under construction with some layout changes and getting readyfor paver tees instead of rubber. It's playable but it isn't perfect yet. We had to shift focus to the barn restoration grant to meet the June 2026 deadline, so fair warning, there is likely to be some construction ongoing.
This is a perfect basecamp to relax and unwind or be creative. Read in the lawn. Cook over the fire. Explore the Palouse. Disc golf anytime.
Guests may bring their own private fire pits. Firewood is provided for the community fire pit.
Yonder Hills can be reserved for larger group camps and private camping events. There is plenty of room for several vehicles and tailgate camping.

There are no dedicated electrical hookups, sewage hookups, or potable water available at this time. Bottled or bulk water is available in in St. John five miles away. Electrical outlets can be used to charge small devices.
We are constantly upgrading the property, so look forward to better amenities as we grow.
St. John has a bar/restaurant, grocery store, hardware stores, gas station, 2 hotel rooms, library, coffee and gift shops as well as a very nice 9-hole traditional golf course. There are numerous small towns, lakes, rivers/creeks, backroads, viewpoints, and historic stops around the Palouse region as well as amazing photography year round. Come for the abundant stars, the fall colors and brisk air, to socialize with other travelers, or to find the peace of the Palouse country.

The McGovern Residence is a magical little world we've created at the base of the Blue Mountains. We're about an hour South of Palouse Falls, an hour East of Walla Walla wine country, and about an hour West of Lewiston/Clarkston. The property consists of 28 acres on the Tucannon River with mature Ponderosa Pines, wildflowers, curated gardens, hiking trails, incredible valley views, and direct access to 1.4 million acres of public land. Multiple stocked lakes are accessible for fishing just a few miles up the road.
Close to the river, The Flat can accommodate up to 2 tents and 4 people. The main campsite includes a hammock, picnic table, fire ring with benches, and parking for up to 2 cars. Immediately off the parking area is a secondary site with another picnic table and fire ring for those camping directly out of their vehicle. Campers have a faucet for fresh potable water and an outhouse for 24/7 bathroom needs. A short path from either campsite leads to a small river clearing for cooling off and lazy afternoons by the water. The Flat is the only site that we offer and we keep the group size low to ensure a peaceful and relaxing experience for everyone. We allow tents, cars, and smaller camper vans, but unfortunately cannot accommodate trailers or RV's.
The main property is a pocket of green with mature cottonwood, ponderosa pines, choke cherry and elder scrub. Our property borders the Wooten Wildlife area which leads into the Umatilla National Forest - so that's 1.4 million acres of public lands directly to our South. Just down the road are
some really great hiking trails and access points to the Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness, or if you prefer to stay close, our property gains 1000' from river to property line. An afternoon trek to the top is challenging but provides a spectacular panoramic view of the Tucannon River valley. Pack some beer and some snacks and hang out for a wicked sunset. We're working hard on our hiking trail - currently it's 3/4 mile (1.5 mile round trip), and growing in length by the week.
During your stay you'll probably see some wild turkey, quail, and some white tailed or mule deer. The area is known to have cougars (we run into them occasionally) bighorn sheep, rattlesnake, black bears, bobcats, and even the occasional moose! There's no shortage of wildlife in the area, and we enjoy when they visit us. Be on the lookout at dusk for the nightly bat show! We also have a flock of chickens that free-range during the day, so don't be surprised to get a visitor or two poking around for scraps.
Our property is rural, but not isolated. Depending on where you stake your tent you might see some neighbors, but we can direct you to the right spot
if you want to avoid it.
The towns of Dayton and Pomeroy are both about 20 minutes away. Both have their own charm and offer a grocery store, a couple bars, gas, and supplies. There's an RV park and general store about a mile up the road if you need some quick essentials or a few gallons of gas.
At the center of the property is a log cabin we're slowly renovating. We live here full time so when we're home we're out and about working on projects
or clearing brush. You'll see us wandering, so interact with us as much as you want or just do your thing.
This is our home and we like to host, but it's not necessary. On that note, this is not a 'campground'. We have a beautiful property with a campsite and like to share it! We hope you enjoy yourself while also respecting our home :)

Robyn and her family were great hosts. We enjoyed the scenic starry night skies and ease of tent camping in their pasture. As a first time hip camper I would definitely recommend Lava Ranch to others. This is a working ranch/farm so lots of animals around. There is a bathroom and shower to use and access can be provided for internet access. They offer a lot of activities that might be new and exciting to city people getting out to the country but we weren’t there long enough to take advantage of them. Just a little over an hour from Pullman and 25 minutes from Palouse falls, the unique location was really convenient for us.

This was the perfect pit stop on our way home! BEAUTIFUL surroundings, we got to see the horses, pigs, sheep, chickens. My kids played volleyball and soccer and we stayed up late playing some of the games that are in the trailer.

I really enjoyed my stay at Shelley’s property. I booked the stay with the intention of scouting turkey hunting spots in the nearby area. Shelley and her young children were very pleasant. I ordered up the French press and pastry option (highly recommended). This is a perfect mix of farm style pace while still enjoying modern amenities such as hot shower and bathroom. I would rate my stay 5 out 5 stars.

We really appreciated the use of the dog run next to the trailer spot for our dogs and loved having our morning coffee in the Adirondack chairs facing the neighboring vineyard and sunrise.

Taylor’s place was the perfect location to camp while visiting McNary National Wildlife Refuge. It was impeccably clean, had easy access to the refuge and to Richland, and was very quiet.
The host greeted me and made sure I had everything I needed. I was glad for the availability of power as the evenings were chilly.
I would camp there again when visiting the area.
