First I want to say the hosts were amazing and provided separate accomdation so that we didn't have to find another location. I was very grateful for that, otherwise I would have had a long evening drive. The camp sites, however, were a different story.
Note that parts of this review may not apply for smaller tents with smaller stakes.
I have a 10' x 10' Kodiak tension tent and found it difficult to find a flat area free of debris. There was 1.5' - 2' tall grass covering both sites upon arrival. Despite the signs telling me where to setup, there wasn't any obvious / clear area to setup my tent (I'm sure this was just an oversight by the hosts on this specific occasion though). Once I stomped down enough grass to setup my home for the evening, the ground quickly thwarted my next efforts. The ground was a combination of rocks, stumps, and various debris. I spent 40 minutes trying to hammer in just my corner stakes (4 of the 14 - 10" stakes required) with a rubber mallet. Thinking maybe if I could get those driven in, then my tent would hold for the night. I turned my tent every which way, but kept striking solid rock 5-6" down. I could not for the life of me get a stake all the way into the ground, or even down enough to be confident my tent would stay up. Perhaps if I had a mini-sledge it would have been different, but even then I'm unsure if my stakes or the ground would have won.
