Romantic Forest Hide-a-Way

Largely constructed from materials lovingly and gently harvested on-site, the Yurt at Rivendell is a sanctuary of peace and serenity. A place for rejuvenation and inspiration.

The yurt began as a rustic structure utilizing lumber from trees selectively harvested to protect the health of the forest.

But, the more Roy worked on the Yurt the more it spoke to him letting him know how to proceed and what it should become -- resulting in this phenomenally peaceful and stress-free wilderness sanctuary where the
sun, the moon and the stars wink at you through the gentle undulations of the 100-year-old Douglas Firs Trees or through the ambient ether of the adjoining meadows.

Our property is located 1hr and 30 minutes from Mt Hood in Oregon. 

We are located in White Salmon, Washington. There are enough things to do in White Salmon, including hiking trails, biking trails, white water rafting, waterfalls, and paddling spots to keep you entertained for a weekend, week, or lifetime! 

NOTE:  While we do accept Instant Bookings for both our Tree House and Yurt there may very rarely be a conflict with a booking received earlier from another site when the HipCamp calendar has not been updated to reflect that booking.  In that case, we default to the earliest booking and work with the guest to see if there are other dates which will work.

The Windward Forest

For thirty years, the Windward community has been developing its stewardship forest as a home for a variety of sustainability systems using renewable energy systems and cooperative community. Learn more about this land:Our 40-acre campground is adjacent to our main sustainability research center. It is completely isolated from the world at large. Our forest is located in a transitional zone where you'll see Douglas fir and Ponderosa pine growing side by side among century-old oak trees.  From here you can tube the wild Klickitat, hike the alpine slopes of Mt. Adams or windsurf the Columbia. 

Wildheart's seasonal pond is filled with spring water from October to May. 

Wildheart Homestead

Our humble homestead sits on five beautiful acres of combined oak forest and wildflower prairie in a region of Washington state so renowned for its recreational opportunities that it's referred to as "Sportsman's Paradise". We're just getting started here, but have big plans for establishing a self-sustaining intentional community centered around teaching visitors about primitive skills such as hide-tanning, herbalism, wilderness survival, and wildlife tracking; as well as important modern homesteading skills like managing a composting toilet system, growing gardens, setting up alternative power sources, and raising livestock. We have the astounding privilege to live within just 20 minutes of the Columbia River Gorge, world-famous for its numerous fishing, wind-sports, and adventuring opportunities. This is a region famous also for big game hunting (deer, elk, bear, cougar), wild-foraging of edible mushrooms (morels, in particular), wineries, art museums, and more! Located just a 10-minute drive from the heart of Goldendale, Washington, you can enjoy the seclusion of our land while remaining close to restaurants, bars, grocery stores, laundry service, a community pool, mechanics services, and many other amenities. Learn more about this land:Pitch your tent in our beautiful oak grove, or in the heart of our wildflower prairie in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. You'll have easy access to potable water, a composting toilet, and can take advantage of the unique opportunity to learn about primitive skills and the homesteading lifestyle from your hosts, Danny and Sarah. Danny is an herbalist and studies plant medicine extensively, often utilizing materials foraged from the property or from the nearby woods. Upon request, Danny can lead herb walks and foraging talks to interested campers. Sarah is an accomplished survivalist and taxidermy artist, who teaches hide-tanning, skinning, and butchering. She has been featured on national television for her primitive survival skills, and can teach classes on tracking wildlife and tanning animal skins. Let our homestead serve as your home base while you fish, hunt, hike, and explore the stunning Columbia River Gorge!

Wildheart's sign at the driveway features a wolverine skull - wolverine are making a slow but promising comeback in the nearby Rainier National Park, and symbolize the tenacity and steadfast will required to run a successful homestead.

Wildheart Homestead is home to several unique canines, including a pack of wolfdogs. All our animals are safely contained and do not interact with HipCampers unless supervised by hosts Sarah and Danny. Meet-and-greets are available upon request!

Nadja's Hideway

Happy New Year! 
We’ll be ready to open up again this spring, so start planning for the 2024 season. Hope you can be our guest this year. 

Play in Hood River during the day, relax in the country at night. We're 6.5 miles up in the hills, called High Prairie, above the sleepy town Lyle.

Enjoy the peace on our 5 acre hideaway, wake up with the chickens - we have a rooster just FYI -

(and yes we sell fresh eggs :). Take a walk to look at Mt. Adams which is just around the corner. Hiking, biking, kite boarding, windsurfing all within a few miles of reach with never ending opportunities to get your exercise. Just ask for tips.

The land has mostly Oak trees where you can take your nap in your hang matt. The place is easy accessible, far away from all but still close to all Gorge attractions during the day. The town has a nice little convenience store, breakfast place and the Sandbar that has good food and some entertainment.

Grocery shopping is best done in Hood River, White Salmon or

The Dalles. Once up here, there isn't much, so come prepared.

 Here we find a lot of agates, Jasper, And many other Rocks so feel free to rockbound away, in 2011 we went thru a crazy 8 days of a wild land fire we refused to leave and stayed to protect our home  as you can see by google maps we where dead center of if. SO please make sure your are very care full with your camp fires have fun I hope you get to enjoy the wild life around hereLearn more about this land:We are Located Just off HWY 97 north of Goldendale Washington In the semcoe mountains. With a lot off cool things to see and do ,Fishing, Biking, hiking, rock hounding, boating, wild life, and many more community activity's,   

 a group area on individual use whoever books it gets it  there is room for 3 25ft motor homes and several tents, closet to water and pos 110 power w/ extension cord about 200ft
