This property is a great camp for enjoying everything that Eastern Washington outdoors has to offer. The Columbia river is in the valley below which provides fishing and watersports. The property is adjacent to thousands of acres of State and federal land which are free to explore. Winter tends to bring significant snowfall which makes this a great destination for winter sports as well. The property sits on top of a mountain plateau known as Harmony Heights. The site is about a 20 minute drive to Brewster or Pateros and about 40 minutes to Lake Chelan. This is an fairly large site and will accommodate two RV's as well as plenty of area for tent camping. There is plenty of good spots to play with dogs without any conflicts. Despite the existence of year round residences and cabins this area is still very wild so you have a chance of an encounter with any critter that is native to the forests and prairies of North Central Washington. This includes but is not limited to the occasional bull snake, rattle snake, badger, black bear, mule deer, whitetail deer, moose, coyote, wolf, mountain lion, bobcat, as well as all kinds of birds including blue birds, hawks, owls, turkey, chukar, ravens, Hungarian partridge, quail, and forest grouse. Site 2 is the most private, ideal for larger groups and tucked among the trees; ideal for many tents or camper and located on grassy flat land. Site 3 (not currently available, working on the site and amenities as of 4.21.24) includes use of our on-site camper with some extra space for additional tents and access to community outhouse and wellhouse. This retreat is dedicated to sustainable living and development. Our well is powered by solar panels and batteries, the outhouse is a biogas system which has a hand pump for flush, and utilizes human waste to produce methane and fertilizer. The methane is then plumbed to a single burner in our kitchenette and can be used for cooking or boiling water when enough methane is present! Booking this hipcamp is supporting sustainable living and development! :D If you like nature, there are many features for you. From hiking to biking, off road access, hunting, or wildlife viewing, Derby Canyon offers it all. Enjoy a day in Leavenworth, the Wenatchee River, mountain bike trail, or a hike in the mountains. Though most of the area does not receive cell phone service (I have Verizon) we do get service at this site. Located about 5 miles off the county road, cell service will fall off for the first 4 miles, however most people will have service at the site itself. Wood fires are not allowed but we do have a propane firepit available for use free of charge - bring your own propane!
