Starting December 1, or first night below freezing we will be closing down Bath House and only access will be at outhouses. Only sites near outhouses will be open and there will be no access to water. Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays.

Learn more about this land: Lazy River Farm has so much to offer. Tents sites are in a wooded setting, on a beautiful hill, spread out for privacy. Not at the river. Camp sites also have fire rings with wood available for you to use. Campers are welcome to use any wood that's on the ground near or around your site. Camp sites can be accessed with a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle or walk up the hill to your site. With easy access down to the river, by walking or driving, you can cool off in the beautiful Cow Pasture River. We have a country store open with a variety of things to meet your needs. Also now open is our made to order Snack Bar for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are some baked goods and fresh eggs available for purchase also. WIFI is very limited and only available in game room below main house. If you're looking to get away from everyday life, this is the place for you.

Fantastic Stay – Highly Recommend! We had an amazing experience at this camp! Adam was an outstanding host, super responsive, and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed for a great stay. The campsite (Woodpecker1) itself was peaceful, clean, and well maintained, with all the facilities in top shape. You can tell a lot of care goes into keeping the place welcoming and comfortable. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing weekend getaway or a convenient base for exploring the area, this spot is perfect. Thanks again to Adam for being such an accommodating and thoughtful host. Thoroughly enjoyed camping at Butterfly 1. The host was flexible with parking when we explained we were there for a driving trip and might need to park 5 cars there. Cool spot with a stream running nearby, a couple nearby camp sites for a somewhat communal feeling and overall great stay. Would recommend and may stay there next year for the first leg of our next journey!

This was our second time staying at Thunder BRidge and Woodpecker 5, specifically. We love this place. Adam is incredible and took care of everything we needed and was great at communicating. This is the best place we have stayed on Hipcamp. 100% recommend to anyone visiting the area. We have done Devil's Marbleyard twice now and stayed here both times. Wouldn't stay anywhere else!

Adam at thunder BRidge is always so helpful and friendly! Texted him to ask for more firewood and he was there in under 2 minutes with a truck load. Forgot our dog leashes at home and he lent us two so we could bring the dogs with us to natural bridge. He reaches out beforehand to give you any details you may need and is always a text or call away if you need anything. The cabin is huge and very affordable, and allows you to rough it in style. Such a fun and enjoyable campground all around. We will definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Beaverdam Falls

This was an introduction to camping for our six year old, and he loved it! The yurt and campsite came with everything we needed to enjoy the outdoors while having creature comforts, and the communal trailer was nice to have to check-in with family. We didn’t need anything, but the camp store was also stocked with bare essentials in the event you leave something behind. The site was very private, and Beau, Leah, and the other guests were friendly. We hope to make it back to Beaverfalls again!

The entire property looks well run, the waterfall is pretty & you can hear it from the text, It was very moist out, as expected this time of year. We paid extra for bedding & it was totally worth it to arrive with the bed made. The bedding was perfect, very comfortable. The only negative at all is the text does have mold & just needs a routine power wash, not a big deal. Would definitely recommend! The leaves have started to change at that elevation and it was gorgeous!

Fantastic weekend at Thunder BRidge! Planned this camping trip last minute for my fiancé’s birthday with our kiddos- everyone had a blast. Cots in Butterfly 1 though thin, were more comfortable than anticipated. The camp was clean and well cared for with a lot of history behind it. Bathrooms were well stocked and water was hot- a huge plus considering it was in the 40s our first morning! Adam was nice enough to send us a video of how to get to our site which was extremely convenient being that we’re not familiar with the area and did not arrive until late Friday night. Already planning on making camping at Thunder BRidge a yearly family tradition.

Weekend Trip to Way Up Acres and Lodging

The bear camper had everything guests would need for a getaway in the woods such as air conditioner, space heater, extra blankets, camping area/seating and TV. With no cell reception and wifi, it was a true unplugged experience. The farm also had many types of animals - donkey, peacocks, pigs, hens, cats and goats. Guests being able to pet and feed them was really fascinating and fun! Farm fresh breakfast in their marketplace was great as well. It was a bit of a hike to the camper and was challenging to carry luggage from the designated parking. Specific parking should be provided near this camper (on the hill). Overall, a great experience away from home. We would love to come back and visit.

3 nights at Beaverdam Falls

It was a perfect spot. You literally are sleeping on top of a waterfall. You can hear it at night with and without the windows open. perfect spot for a campfire and grilling food which has a grate. They even have a community space that has an oven and things too if you prefer to cook that way, I hung twinkle lights all over the place to give it a cute feel and also the community space they offer free coffee and they also have snacks and other items to purchase. The cave was neat to explore on the property! You can even sit at the bottom of the waterfall and have a picnic or just hang out, you can even swim in it too! At the cabin they even made a trail directly to it for those that stay in this cabin. The space was perfect at the cabin for my dog. I had him on a 20 foot lead and worked out perfect.
